Short answer: yes, Meta Muse is free until you use up your weekly free credits. Every week Muse gives you a fresh credit grant. Right now that grant is generous, and most people doing everyday tasks never run out. If you do burn through it, the paid upgrade is $100 a month.
Last checked October 8, 2026. Meta has not published a full pricing page, and the size of the free grant can change at any time. Your own Usage screen is always the source of truth.
How Muse pricing works
| Option | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | A fresh credit grant every week. Generous for now, can change. |
| Paid | $100/month | Much more usage once the free credits run out. Same features. |
A few things worth knowing:
- Free is the default, not a trial. You get a new credit grant each week. Meta has said it expects most people to stay on free.
- Paying buys volume, not features. Free users get the same Connectors, scheduled jobs, files and browser. The paid plan just lets you do much more of it.
- The upgrade is $100 a month. Some early reports mentioned a cheaper $20 "Power" tier. In the account we checked, the upgrade offered was $100 a month, so do not plan around a cheaper option unless you see it on your own Upgrade screen.
- "Generous" is not a promise. New AI products often start with large free allowances and tighten them later. Do not build a business process that only works on today's free grant.
- A payment card may be required to start, even on free, according to several early users. You are not charged unless you upgrade.
What uses up your credits
Meta has not published exactly how much each action costs, but the pattern is predictable:
- Light: a question, a reminder, a short summary.
- Medium: reading your inbox, making a PDF or spreadsheet, planning a trip.
- Heavy: long research, anything that drives a browser through many pages, and recurring jobs that run every day.
Custom Connectors and Zapier calls use the same credits as everything else.
How to check your usage
On desktop, press Cmd + , (Mac) or Ctrl + , to open Settings, go to the General tab, and look under Usage. That shows how much of this week's grant you have used. The Upgrade button there shows the paid price for your account.
Check it at the end of your first week. If you are under half, you can comfortably add more scheduled jobs.
6 ways to make the free credits last
- Run recurring jobs less often. A weekly digest instead of a daily one cuts that job's usage by about 85%.
- Ask for shorter outputs. "5 bullets" uses less than "a detailed report."
- Use Connectors instead of the browser. Built-in Connectors are faster and lighter than Muse clicking through websites.
- Give it the text. Paste or upload the content you want analyzed instead of asking Muse to find and read it. For YouTube videos, a free transcript saves Muse a lot of work.
- Use alert-only monitors. "Only message me if something changes" avoids generating a report on every run.
- Clean up old jobs. Check Assistant icon > Upcoming for recurring tasks you no longer need.
Is $100 a month worth it?
For most people, no, at least not yet. With today's free grant, a morning briefing, a couple of monitors and regular one-off tasks fit comfortably within free.
It starts to make sense if:
- You run out of free credits most weeks and the wait is costing you.
- You run Muse as a near-full-time operator: several daily pipelines, heavy research, or a posting queue for a business.
- You use Muse for a side business, and the hours it saves are worth more than $100 a month.
$100 a month is more than most mainstream chatbot plans, so before upgrading, try the six tips above for a week.
How Muse pricing compares
ChatGPT and Claude also have free tiers, with paid plans that usually start around $20 a month and go higher for heavy users. Muse is different on both ends: a more generous free grant today, and a single, pricier upgrade when you outgrow it. What you are paying for is mainly more background agent work. We cover the broader differences in Meta Muse vs ChatGPT vs Claude.

Frequently asked questions
Is Meta Muse free to use?+
Yes. Every week Muse gives you a free credit grant, and right now it is generous enough for everyday use. Meta can change the size of the grant at any time, so check Settings > General > Usage to see where you stand.
How much does Meta Muse cost?+
Nothing until you use up your weekly free credits. After that, the paid upgrade is $100 per month. Some early reports mentioned a cheaper $20 tier, but the upgrade offered in the account we checked is $100 per month.
What happens when I run out of free credits?+
You can wait for the next weekly grant, or upgrade to the $100 per month plan to keep going. Scheduled jobs and long tasks use credits fastest, so trimming those is the easiest way to stay free.
Does the paid plan unlock extra features?+
According to Meta and early reviews, paying buys more usage, not different features. Free users get the same Connectors, scheduled jobs, files and browser.
Does Muse need a credit card for the free plan?+
Several early users report that Muse asks for a payment card on file even on the free tier. You are not charged unless you upgrade.
Do custom connectors or Zapier cost extra in Muse?+
Not from Meta. They use the same weekly credits as everything else. The services you connect may charge separately.
