This is a new Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i or

0:02

Edition Gen 11. It's been refreshed with

0:05

Intel's new Panther Lake processors and

0:07

it sports a completely new design while

0:10

still keeping the core features that

0:12

made the previous generation great. So,

0:14

I thought what better way to see how far

0:16

Lenovo has come than to put it

0:18

head-to-head against its predecessor and

0:21

the one before that. So, we have the Gen

0:23

9 from 2024, Gen 10 from 2025, uh, with

0:27

Intel's Meteor H and Aerolake H

0:30

processors, respectively. So, this would

0:32

be a great showcase or a great example

0:35

to showcase the architectural

0:36

advancements, if any, Intel's new Pantal

0:39

processors bring to the table, but also

0:41

go through some of the physical

0:43

differences between these three

0:45

generations of laptops. Huge thanks to

0:47

Lenovo and Intel for partnering with us

0:48

in this video. Now, don't expect any

0:50

major GPU surprises here. Lenovo is

0:52

carrying over the same RTX 50 series

0:55

options from last year, but that's not

0:57

what this comparison is about. What I

0:59

really want to know is whether, you

1:02

know, we've gained any tangible CPU

1:03

performance generation over generation.

1:06

Uh if battery life has actually improved

1:08

and whether these new design updates uh

1:11

and and of course touch point upgrades

1:13

over the past three generations are

1:15

worth the upgrade. Let's start with

1:17

design updates. Gen 9 and Gen 10 were

1:20

essentially identical from the outside,

1:22

aside from the different logo placement

1:24

on the lid. Gen 11 changes that it's

1:27

roughly 3% thinner and 8% lighter than

1:30

Gen 10. Although the form factor

1:32

essentially remains the same. Uh albeit

1:35

this is the 16-inch laptop, so they are

1:37

fairly huge. But you do get a new

1:40

thermal bump design for better heat

1:41

dissipation, larger vents at the bottom

1:43

for uh better or improved intake and a

1:46

new thunder gray finish which is

1:51

slightly very slightly darker than the

1:54

previous generations. But the biggest

1:55

change has to be with the interior

1:57

space. So Lenovo has completely

2:00

eliminated the dedicated numpad in favor

2:03

of a more symmetrical layout. Now, I

2:05

know that this is going to be divisive,

2:07

but I'm a fan. The trackpad is now more

2:10

centered, which immediately makes the

2:12

whole deck feel a lot more balanced. The

2:14

keyboard has been updated as well. You

2:15

get black key caps that contrast nicely

2:17

against the gray chassis. Uh, the same

2:19

concave key caps still make their way

2:21

here. The key travel has been bumped to

2:22

1.5 mm, and there's an anti-fingerprint

2:25

coating. It feels really good to type

2:26

on. Lenovo has always had one of the

2:28

best laptop keyboards on the market and

2:30

the new Yoga Pro 9i, it still manages to

2:32

deliver the exact same experience from

2:34

the previous generations and that's not

2:35

a bad thing. Now, about this new

2:37

trackpad, Lenovo went allin with haptics

2:40

here. They're calling it the Force Pad,

2:41

and the concept is appreciated, but the

2:43

execution still needs a little bit of

2:44

fine-tuning. I ran into some issues

2:46

trying to select multiple files using my

2:48

thumb and index finger to drag and

2:50

select. It's not quite there yet, but it

2:52

is a noticeable upgrade in terms of

2:54

quality compared to the previous

2:55

generation Yoga Pro 9i. The surface, in

2:58

my opinion, at least feels a lot more

2:59

smoother. The left and right clicks, it

3:02

just feels a lot more satisfying

3:03

compared to the button style layout on

3:05

the previous generation. Uh I I really

3:08

like the Surface. It's super nice to

3:10

work with, and it's arguably one of the

3:12

best haptic integrations that I've seen

3:14

on a Windows laptop recently. You also

3:16

now get an included Yoga Pen Gen 2,

3:18

which lets you use the trackpad as a

3:20

drawing surface. I tried to get a little

3:23

creative with it, but the experience

3:24

feels a bit disconnected. If you start a

3:27

stroke at one point, it sometimes jumps

3:29

to a miscalibrated position on the pad.

3:32

And again, I just want to let you guys

3:34

know that the pen does not work with the

3:36

display despite it supporting touch

3:39

support, which is really bizarre. Now,

3:41

if you do plan to use this, um, you just

3:44

need a lot of patience. But if you take

3:45

this pen out of the equation, I think

3:47

this keyboard and trackpad combination

3:49

works really, really well for day-to-day

3:51

operations. The hinge has also been

3:53

stiffened up significantly. So, there's

3:55

not a lot of wobble compared to the

3:56

previous generation. And you still get

3:58

the magnetic lid uh which gives you that

4:01

satisfying snap just like the previous

4:02

generation. You also get the signature

4:04

features like the comfort edge design

4:06

which makes it easier to carry and grip

4:09

the laptop on the go. And on the port

4:12

side, not a lot has changed compared to

4:14

the previous generation, but there are

4:16

two noteworthy upgrades. The type A

4:19

ports have been bumped to Gen 2 at 10

4:22

Gbits per second over the previous

4:23

generation at 5 Gbits per second, and

4:25

the fulls size SD card slot is now UHS2

4:28

compliant, which makes a real difference

4:29

when you're pulling footage or photos

4:31

from something like my Sony FX3. There's

4:33

only one head scratcher, though, and

4:34

that's still the implementation of

4:36

Thunderbolt 4, but that's actually a

4:39

Panther Lake limitation. It's not a

4:41

Lenovo decision, which is really

4:42

unfortunate. And then we get to the

4:44

display. So last year we saw Lenovo

4:46

debut their Pure Sight Pro Tandem OLED

4:48

display. Just a refresher, Tandem OLED

4:51

uses two stacked layers that effectively

4:54

doubles the brightness output. And the

4:56

result is blindingly bright, guys. I

4:59

mean, this thing is just crazy. We're

5:00

getting over 900 nits of peak SDR

5:03

brightness, making it arguably the

5:05

brightest laptop that I've ever seen.

5:07

Um, the same thing goes for the Gen 10.

5:09

It's just crazy. Like these things are

5:11

awesome and I'm a sucker for brighter

5:13

displays, so these things just fit the

5:14

bill perfectly. This is still a 3.2K

5:17

16inch display. Still has a 16x10 aspect

5:20

ratio. It's a great canvas uh to

5:22

experience watching videos, uh editing

5:24

my photos and videos, of course, for the

5:25

channel. Uh it covers 99% DCIP3 and it's

5:29

pretty color accurate. Now, I do

5:30

appreciate Lenovo for pushing forward

5:32

with the tandem OLED technology over

5:34

here, and it seems like that's the

5:35

industry standard going forward, but it

5:38

still would have been nice if they kept

5:39

the mini LED option in their lineup.

5:41

Maybe add an anti-glare coating to cut

5:43

down on reflections because this is a

5:45

glossy panel. Uh, but I guess the

5:47

insanely high brightness output kind of

5:50

negates that. Interesting fact, the Gen

5:52

9 from 2024 had a 165 Hz display. So, if

5:55

you're coming from that, the 120 Hz

5:57

option might feel a bit of a downgrade.

5:59

Uh although the brightness kind of again

6:01

it just it's so good. It's one of the

6:03

best displays that I've seen on a

6:04

laptop. So those are the physical

6:06

updates across three generations. But

6:08

what about actual performance? Is Panda

6:12

Lake a step up over Aerol Lake and

6:15

better yet Meteor from 2024? Now before

6:18

I get into the numbers, let me quickly

6:20

run down the specs of each laptops. So,

6:23

Gen 9 from 2024 is running the Core

6:25

Ultra 9185H with 22 threads, 64 gigs of

6:29

RAM, and an RTX 4070 laptop GPU. Gen 10

6:33

steps it up to the Core Ultra 7255H,

6:37

though with six less threads. Uh, it

6:39

still has the same memory capacity and

6:41

an RTX 5070 laptop GPU. The new Gen 11

6:44

is where things get a little

6:45

interesting. You're getting Intel's

6:47

latest Core Ultra 9 386H with 16 threads

6:50

just like Gen 10. we are working with an

6:52

RTX 5060 laptop GPU instead and that

6:56

puts it at a clear disadvantage against

6:58

Gen 10 on the GPU side. Now, there is

7:01

supposedly an RTX 5070 12 GB variant

7:04

coming later this year, but right now

7:06

we're looking at 50/50 and 5060 options

7:08

on the current Yoga Pro 9i lineup. Now,

7:11

as we ran our usual suite of tests, we

7:13

realized something across these three

7:16

generations. It seems like Lenovo is

7:18

shifting their priorities. It used to be

7:20

about raw performance, pushing power
