0:00

Let me be crystal clear.

0:02

I want to be excited here.

0:05

I want things to be changing and going back to the way they were.

0:10

Mark my words, though, and I hope I am wrong here.

0:14

Please, in a couple of months, come back to the video

0:17

and tell me how wrong I was

0:19

and how I should have been excited for everything happening.

0:23

We are not witnessing the AI bubble burst.

0:26

All we are seeing is resources being taken from one set of projects

0:30

over to another set of projects.

0:33

So, a few days back, OpenAI announced the end of Sora Video Generation.

0:39

This basically came out of nowhere publicly.

0:43

I'm sure behind closed doors they've been talking about it for a while,

0:45

but we'd not really heard anything about it.

0:48

There weren't any rumors.

0:49

It seems like this just pretty much happened overnight.

0:53

What's crazy about this, though,

0:55

is four months earlier, back in December,

1:00

we were talking about a deal between OpenAI and Disney

1:04

for $1 billion.

1:08

OpenAI gave no indication it was working to wind down Sora

1:11

in a blog post on Monday, so a few days prior,

1:15

titled, Creating with Sora Safely.

1:17

The company outlined ways it began working to make the app safe for teens

1:21

with stricter guardrails around harmful content

1:23

such as sexual material, terrorist propaganda,

1:26

and self-harm promotion.

1:28

This gives me the indication that

1:31

a lot of the people working at OpenAI

1:34

also weren't aware this was happening,

1:37

or maybe they just wanted to create some facade

1:40

just in case they weren't certain they were going to do so.

1:43

OpenAI told the BBC on Wednesday

1:45

that it has discontinued Sora so that it can focus on other developments

1:49

such as robotics that will help people solve real-world physical tasks.

1:54

A spokesperson for the Walt Disney Company said,

1:56

we respect OpenAI's decision to exit the video generation business

1:59

and to shift its priorities elsewhere,

2:01

which is the most corporate of corporate answer you could ever give.

2:05

Now, we don't have exact numbers,

2:09

but I think if the numbers floating around are anywhere near accurate,

2:14

it's pretty clear why they did this.

2:17

Sora wasn't making money.

2:20

In fact, people are estimating they were burning upwards of $10 million a day,

2:26

some estimates going as high as $15 million to...

2:30

do what exactly?

2:34

Generate videos of cats in ring doorbells doing funny things,

2:39

Ronald McDonald being arrested,

2:42

TikTok videos of religious events,

2:45

and other things which might be amusing, might be fun,

2:49

but...

2:51

can you justify burning millions of dollars every single day

2:56

just to generate memes?

2:59

Yes, there certainly was some use of it being used in advertisements

3:05

and various things like that,

3:06

but the majority of the usage...

3:09

was just...

3:12

slop.

3:13

It was brain rot.

3:15

It was...

3:16

it was just...

3:18

garbage.

3:19

But, I think much more importantly,

3:22

is the video generation had become very, very good,

3:26

and it was becoming a very easy target for lawsuits,

3:30

and there were already quite a few of those going on.

3:33

Then the growing concerns regarding deepfakes,

3:36

along with things like, you know, fake security footage,

3:40

and that footage...

3:42

if you've not seen it,

3:45

it's at a point where...

3:46

where a stupid judge,

3:49

a stupid jury,

3:50

could very easily be tricked by it.

3:53

If you're open AI,

3:54

maybe you don't have any morals about it.

3:56

However,

3:57

when you start counting up those lawsuits,

4:00

there comes a point where you have to say,

4:01

hmm,

4:03

are we actually losing money from the lawsuits now?

4:07

Does it make sense to continue doing this?

4:10

And where is this going to go?

4:12

Are the lawsuits going to slow down?

4:14

Or is this going to ramp up even more

4:17

as we deploy more of this,

4:19

as more people are using this,

4:21

as the tech gets better and better?

4:23

Following that,

4:24

a few days later,

4:24

we saw this.

4:26

Google has just announced TurboQuant,

4:28

a new AI algorithm

4:30

that reduces memory uses for large language models

4:32

by a factor of six,

4:33

and improves speed up to eight times via software.

4:37

I'll leave the white paper linked down below.

4:41

I do not have the time,

4:42

nor the technical expertise,

4:44

to explain how this actually functions,

4:47

and why this is better,

4:49

and why this is a good approach.

4:52

I'll leave this below.

4:54

Have a read of it yourself.

4:55

So,

4:56

here we have Google's announcement as well.

4:58

Introducing TurboQuant,

4:59

our new compression algorithm

5:00

that reduces LLM key value cache memory

5:03

by at least six times,

5:04

and delivers up to eight times speed up,

5:06

all with zero accuracy loss,

5:07

redefining AI efficiency.

5:09

Read the blog down below.

5:11

The non-technical explanation here

5:13

is more done,

5:15

less resources.

5:17

That's the part that matters.

5:18

Most likely,

5:19

as a direct result of that,

5:21

we have the stock graphs.

5:22

Now,

5:22

these are from a couple of days ago.

5:23

I'll show you the more up-to-date ones

5:25

in just a moment.

5:26

And for Micron,

5:26

it is not going amazingly for them,

5:29

at least in the short term.

5:31

And the same thing can be said

5:33

about SK Hynix as well.

5:34

Micron,

5:35

you might remember,

5:36

basically pulled back

5:37

on consumer RAM production.

5:39

So,

5:39

a lot of people are,

5:41

rightfully,

5:42

very happy

5:43

seeing the graph go like this.

5:45

However,

5:46

never forget that stock prices

5:47

do not directly reflect

5:49

the purchasing of a product,

5:51

or the price of the product.

5:53

They're this complex combination

5:55

of popularity,

5:57

purchases,

5:57

company drama,

5:59

the market as a whole,

6:01

your horoscope.

6:04

In other words,

6:06

vibes.

6:07

I did say the Micron graph

6:08

was a small excerpt

6:10

of what it actually looks like.

6:11

So,

6:11

this is the past day,

6:12

you know,

6:13

it's going down.

6:14

Past five days,

6:15

it's going down.

6:16

Past month,

6:17

it's gone down,

6:18

but notice this here.

6:20

Let's go the past year.

6:23

Yes,

6:23

it has come down.

6:25

And yes,

6:26

if you got excited about Micron,

6:29

like,

6:29

right here maybe,

6:31

you're probably not very happy.

6:33

But,

6:33

over the past year,

6:35

it's still massively skyrocketed.

6:38

This is not like,

6:39

a full correction of the market.

6:42

Micron just collapsing

6:43

to where it was before.

6:45

We're still very much

6:46

in the AI hype bubble.

6:48

What you're seeing is some,

6:50

sort of,

6:52

uncertainty.

6:53

Some questioning about,

6:55

how much of this RAM

6:57

is actually needed.

6:59

The exact same can be said

7:01

about Samsung Electronics.

7:02

Past five days,

7:03

gone down.

7:04

Past month,

7:05

again,

7:05

you have this spike here.

7:07

Past year,

7:08

it has still

7:09

massively skyrocketed.

7:11

And again,

7:12

SK Hynix,

7:13

past five days,
