Yeat - 2 Alivë ALBUM REVIEW

hi everyone meet anthony baltano here

the internet's busiest music nerd and

it's time for a review of this new year

project to alive this is the major label

debut of california rapper yeet who has

been building up his profile with a

steady stream of projects for several

years now really reaching a fever pitch

with last year's up to me which i wasn't

exactly blown away by but it was coming

through with some kind of refreshing

fusions of psychedelic hype melodic and

druggy trap music i thought maybe yeet

could come through with something more

bold and unique the next time around

possibly a new phase a new sound or

something and if that is the case uh

with to alive that that's something that

phase is a very one-dimensional one

listening to this project it's clear

yeah has hindsight working for him and

has paid very close attention to the

most major works from future uzi

young thug

and cardi over the last seven years and

he really peppers in all of it in a

pretty forward-thinking way i don't

think a record could sound more current

than this record does right now outside

of that there are some tracks here where

he delivers a pretty raw vocal

performance and captures a vibe too but

i think this record strong points kind

of end there cause truth be told yeet's

vocal range is pretty limited you're not

gonna catch too many impressive melodic

runs on this thing in addition to that

he's a pretty poor writer and improviser

there are very few choruses or standout

choruses on this project so much of the

time we are relying purely on yeats raw

energy to keep these tracks interesting

the song never again for example feels

very lightening in a bottle at one point

it doesn't sound like yeet is rapping as

much as he's angrily rambling over the

beat with all these ad-libs flying at me

and distorted fuzzy synths laced into

the beat there are some passages of lug

geek that give off a similar energy that

i enjoy too and lyrically on the song

just better yeet flaunts his growing

success his addictions and even his

waning mental health with the same

energy also shout out to the song roland

where i think he drops some of his most

ridiculous one-liners and similes osama

bin laden my bro man poor porn went out

for

osama and yeet also has a track on this

thing titled taliban so you know he's a

fan sidebar here though i do think

taliban is one of the weaker and more

repetitive tracks on this lp frankly i

think yeet could have done a little bit

better by the taliban on this one i'm

about to slice you i'm about to dice you

it's not nice yeah

put you inside of a bag then fill it

with rice sitting at the lights man just

just make me into a meal my fans just

like a cult they read my bible i have

dealt with some yeet fans so far and

that is most definitely the case also

the lice line on this track too is

weird as hell but also kind of clever

too there are some strange and

unpredictable highlights on this thing

for sure but there are just as many

tracks on this project that are straight

uneventful little two nothing happens

over a very mediocre beat like racks got

me with gunna or outside featuring young

thug where there's a somewhat cheery and

weird melody to this one that i don't

care for too much narcotics 2 how is

this song 4 minutes it's so damn

mind-numbing if not for the young ko

feature on the back end this one would

be pointless there are 20 whole ass

tracks on this thing which just goes to

show that he has like no ability to edit

himself at all as there are songs on

this thing where he honestly gives a

pretty awful vocal performance like on

real six for example where he is uh

sounding somewhat demented and maybe

even totally drugged out of his mind

singing uh i'm honey

i need you to lick all of me like there

are just so many moments on this thing

where yeet is clearly paling in

comparison to his very obvious trap

influences the song jump for example is

a pretty desperate attempt at

getting somewhere near the unique range

and elasticity vocally of a young thug

but it's it's just not there and

honestly i don't have enough fingers to

count the number of beats and flows that

feel like they could have been borrowed

from the past couple of cardi records

the song geek high with ken carson just

sounds like a competition to see who

listened to die lit more ken or ye

and i think it's ken the love song call

me on the back end of this thing is

surprising because eat spends much of

this record uh throwing anyone in the

trash who is

interested in him or [ __ ] him seems

more like a lone wolf type in that

regard then la m i thought had one of

the more eccentric vocal performances on

the entire lp there's something to

that melody on the chorus that's peeking

out through all of the horrendously

harmonized vocal layers i just touched

it um i just touched it yeah but overall

the last leg of this thing is pretty

much part of the course for everything

that has preceded it because again this

record captures i think a vibe an

aesthetic of style but then beyond that

there's like no real direction

vision

versatility when there is a track on

this thing that kind of hits or sounds

decent it seems almost by random like

it's just a fluke and coming away from

this project i feel like i'd much rather

just listen to the artists who influence

yi than just yeet himself i think the

most accurate and funny picture of this

record comes in the shape of the final

track on the record still counting where

we get a super simple cycling repetitive

beat wild ad-libs flows that feel like

auto-tuned rants burning synth leads a

lot of slang a lot of tonka name drops

and honest to god the final bars of this

song i trying to hear your music turn it

off that [ __ ] some trash which i

wouldn't come on here and tell you that

i think yeats music is trash total trash

utter trash uh i don't i don't actually

think that but i think it is very uh

funny for him to make that assessment of

somebody else's music because i'm sort

of wondering like what what is what

would trash music to ye be one wonders

it boggles the mind uh but what i can

say definitively right here is that uh

this project i'm feeling a strong three

to a light for on this one uh yeah
