can't believe it but honors a classes

0:02

might be a thing of the past you might

0:06

remember going to high school and you

0:07

might remember their regular classes

0:09

there are honors classes and then there

0:12

are advanced placement classes AP

0:14

classes honors classes were more

0:16

challenging AP classes were even more

0:19

challenging and potentially gave you

0:21

college credit if you got a four or five

0:23

generally on the advanced placement test

0:24

however according to the Wall Street

0:28

Journal cities in places like none other

0:30

than California once again are deciding

0:33

you know what it's time to increase

0:37

equity and by increasing Equity we're

0:41

going to punish people who want to

0:43

challenge themselves yes that's

0:46

literally something that's happening now

0:48

in California take a look at this Culver

0:50

City California a group of parents

0:52

stepped up to the lectern Tuesday night

0:54

at a school board meeting in this middle

0:57

class Los Angeles area City to push back

1:00

against a racial Equity initiative

1:02

initiative the high school they argued

1:04

should reinstate honors English classes

1:08

which were eliminated because they did

1:10

not enroll enough black and Latino

1:13

students the district earlier this year

1:15

replaced the honors classes at Culver

1:18

City High School with uniform courses

1:21

officials say will ensure all students

1:24

of all Races receive equal rigorous

1:28

education

1:31

the article goes on to say uh that that

1:34

well they talk about the parents uh uh

1:36

fighting this suggesting look we really

1:38

feel Equity means offering opportunities

1:41

to people of diverse backgrounds not

1:43

taking away opportunities for others I

1:45

think there's a phrase here that is

1:47

really applicable when we think about

1:49

this and it's uh Equity should be equal

1:54

opportunity everybody gets an equal

1:56

opportunity but not an equal result

1:59

right so if you have potentially

2:02

different students advancing at

2:05

different levels they shouldn't be

2:07

punished so to speak and and not be able

2:09

to take an honors class because somebody

2:12

else hasn't been able to catch up as

2:14

much now

2:16

the folks in California who are removing

2:18

honors classes suggests that one of the

2:21

reasons the honors classes were removed

2:23

was because only 13 percent of those in

2:26

the 12th grade advanced placement

2:28

classes were Latino whereas Latinos

2:31

represented 37 percent of the student

2:34

body Asians made up 34 of the AP class

2:37

compared to just 10 percent of the

2:39

students black students represented

2:41

about 14 of AP English versus 15 of the

2:44

student body a little bit more in line

2:46

there

2:46

and they go into this idea that

2:49

individuals from a younger age may feel

2:51

less motivated if uh if everyone else is

2:54

taking honors classes and they're just

2:56

taking normal classes and the honors

2:58

classes let people maybe average a

3:00

higher GPA for uh for for getting into

3:02

college or whatever so the idea Culver

3:07

High School has implemented is you know

3:09

what let's just get rid of the

3:11

opportunity for you to take honors

3:13

classes and let's let everyone take

3:16

what's known as a college prep class

3:18

everyone will take College Prep now that

3:21

might seem like it's better than just a

3:24

regular English class well this is where

3:26

I'd like to add my own two cents this is

3:29

straight up [ __ ] California is so

3:32

stupid and their school system is

3:34

failing so much now they're actually

3:36

demoting people who are trying to

3:38

challenge themselves in schools this is

3:41

shocking I actually had the honor of

3:44

going to a California high school for

3:46

12th grade when I was a student in

3:49

Florida I took honors classes and AP

3:51

classes when I came out to California I

3:53

actually purposefully only took college

3:55

prep classes guess why I wanted to do

3:59

nothing and I aced those classes doing

4:03

nothing I came here and from went from

4:06

actually learning a lot in honors and AP

4:08

classes to purposefully taking College

4:11

Prep in California and learning nothing

4:14

there was essentially no homework no

4:17

challenge no education it was stupid I

4:21

learned nearly nothing it wasn't until I

4:24

went to college that I actually started

4:25

learning again so I kind of felt like my

4:27

senior day was a complete waste in fact

4:29

college prep classes were known as being

4:31

so easy that two things personally

4:33

happened to me because I've got a lot of

4:34

personal experience related to this

4:35

because again I I went to a California

4:37

high school

4:39

two things happened to me number one

4:41

because the classes were so easy I only

4:43

had to go for a half of a day so I

4:46

didn't even get the full High School

4:48

experience in high school here in

4:50

California because the horses were so

4:52

easy on top of that in my very first day

4:57

taking a college prep class in college

5:00

prep economics

5:02

the uh teacher in that 12th grade class

5:05

came up to me and said hey you know a

5:09

lot about economics do you want to come

5:11

in my AP class and at that point I had

5:14

already convinced myself that for my

5:16

senior year uh because I moved out here

5:18

to live with my girlfriend I'm like nope

5:21

I want to do nothing so I told the

5:23

teacher I go no thanks but it was it was

5:26

really cool because I go to a college

5:28

prep class and within the first day he's

5:30

like uh do you want to go to AP

5:34

uh which which you know was really cool

5:37

but it went to show that even the

5:40

teachers are like like if if you

5:43

actually have an interest in the subject

5:45

you don't belong in college prep because

5:48

College Prep is so easy so now what you

5:51

actually have is California and other

5:54

states like Rhode Island suggesting you

5:56

know what if we can't have everyone have

5:59

an honors class let's just dumb it down

6:01

let's just run remove the honors classes

6:05

so that way everybody can be in the

6:07

basic class together I personally think

6:10

everyone should have the choice the

6:12

right to choose if I want the right to

6:14

choose an easier class I have that if I

6:17

have the right to choose a harder class

6:18

I should have that opportunity now

6:21

regarding Equity I actually ran for

6:23

governor and I realized that

6:25

unfortunately in poorer areas you do

6:27

something known as you concentrate

6:29

poverty so what that means is

6:31

individuals who are living in poverty

6:34

end up often becoming poor that's

6:36

because when you live in poverty you

6:38

have you have a real struggle to get by

6:41

and survive so you end up moving to

6:43

cheaper and cheaper locations well the

6:45

more you move to cheaper areas the worse

6:47

social services are for those areas

6:50

because more people are moving to them

6:52

and I mean Social Services being like

6:54

police Medicare medical fire all that

6:57

all these services are worse schools

6:59

generally go down as well so when you

7:00

concentrate poverty you create problems

7:02

but you also tend to reduce opportunity

7:05

for those folks and I realized that when

7:07

I ran for governor when I ran for

7:08

governor I realized you need to help

7:12

education in the poorer areas to

7:15

actually be able to help minimize

7:17

poverty in the future so the state

7:20

should be making a very strong effort to

7:23

provide more services in poorer areas in

7:26

fact I had a concept known as future

7:28

schools where when I ran for governor in

7:30

California and I came in second place

7:32

out of the uh out of the recall

7:33

candidates

7:34

almost a million votes and realized that

7:38

what we needed to do was actually

7:39

educate students more in poorer areas

7:43

who yes are in California more often

7:46

black or Latino and what you ended up

7:49

needing to do was provide a new

7:51

potential school system where where you

7:54

could teach

7:55

completely from the bottom up and solve

7:58

the education system solely in high

8:00

school so in other words we would not

8:02

rely on the education someone received

8:04

in elementary school or middle school

8:06

because it was probably bad and that

8:08

education a younger individuals in

8:10

poorer areas received often uh in the

8:13

poor areas you would substantially hire

8:14

black and Latino populations

8:16

the education those folks received from

8:18

elementary school to middle school was

8:20

so subpar that they had no chance to get

8:22

by in high school so California's

8:25

solution to this is okay well if we

8:27

can't have everyone be in honors classes

8:29

let's not fix why they can't get into an

8:32

honors class let's just remove the

8:33

honors classes that's completely moronic

8:36

it's kind of like how California tried

8:38

solving

8:39

fire hydrant theft so illegal marijuana

8:44

farms in the desert of California were

8:46

hooking up illegally to fire hydrants to

8:49

water their illegal marijuana plants

8:52

their Farms right their illegal

8:54

marijuana forms and rather than prevent

8:57

the crime

8:59

California decided let's just remove the

9:02

fire hydrants

9:04

California is so backwards you literally

9:07

cannot have a more stupid state oh

9:10

people are stealing water from the fire

9:11

hydrants well let's get rid of the fire

9:13

hydrants oh people can't make it into

9:16

honors classes because they're

9:18

elementary and middle school education

9:20

sucked Wow Let's just remove honors

9:22

classes and punish people in California

9:25

this is the most stupid thing I have

9:28

ever seen California is so backwards and

9:32

their rationalization for removing

9:34

honors classes in uh Culver City is well

9:38

the teachers were Jarred by the racial

9:41

statistics and felt obligated to do

9:43

something

9:44

the teachers should feel obligated not

9:47

to fail people in elementary school in

9:49

middle school maybe if the teachers

9:51

union got off their ass and did

9:52

something and actually helped and and

9:55

fund teachers more appropriately

9:58

especially in poorer areas maybe

10:00

everybody would have the opportunity to

10:02

enroll in a honors class if they wanted

10:04

to but no rather than trying to elevate

10:07

students California wants to demote the

10:12

successful folks or the folks who want

10:14

to try harder or have a greater

10:16

opportunity that's pathetic that is a

10:19

disaster California is getting worse by

10:21

the day I feel embarrassed to say I live

10:23

in California

10:25

I feel like I I am making these videos

10:27

so often now where I'm like what the

10:31

hell is happening in California and it's

10:33

just getting worse and worse and worse

10:36

it's so frustrating and then sometimes I

10:38

get comments from people that are like

10:39

well why did why did you try to do

10:41

something about it Kevin I did it

10:43

literally ran for governor when I was 29

10:44

years old it came in second place

10:47

good it's gracious one party rule equals

10:51

Echo chamber you're very correct that's

10:54

the problem you literally have a

10:55

government that would rather send

10:57

stimulus checks to people making five

10:59

hundred thousand dollars

11:01

then actually keep

11:04

honors classes that's California for you

11:07

that's so stupid

11:10

ah crazy crazy crazy crazy

11:15

that's why California rant for you
