well joe biden may have just killed free

0:01

0:03

0:05

just said but you can still get 41 off

0:08

0:10

those programs link down below stocks

0:12

psychology of money real estate you name

0:14

it check it out coupon code expires

0:16

october 29th here's basically what joe

0:19

biden just said at his uh news

0:21

conference or press conference he said

0:23

we rank 13th in the world with our

0:25

infrastructure and any any country that

0:27

out educates us will out compete us he

0:30

says uh his two bills the bill to back a

0:33

better plan which is the three and a

0:34

half trillion dollar social

0:36

infrastructure plan and the bipartisan

0:38

infrastructure plan the heart

0:38

infrastructure plan those uh both of

0:41

these bills are about competitiveness

0:42

versus complacency and we need to get

0:44

them done obviously hard infrastructure

0:46

plan includes dealing with things like

0:48

lead-based paint or lead-based pipes i'm

0:49

sorry roads bridges high-speed internet

0:53

getting electric school buses instead of

0:55

diesel school buses so on and so forth

0:58

something that he mentioned that was a

1:00

little bit of a surprise is he mentioned

1:03

that he doesn't know if he can get his

1:05

proposed free community college done my

1:08

plan gets us back on track

1:11

provides two years of high quality

1:13

preschool for every child in america

1:15

it also

1:17

makes investments in higher education by

1:19

increasing pell grants

1:21

i don't know if i can get it done but i

1:22

also have proposed this free community

1:25

college like you've done here in the

1:27

state of connecticut to help students

1:28

from lower income families attend

1:30

community college four-year schools

1:32

this is expected to get done under the

1:35

three and a half trillion dollar

1:37

buildback better plan agenda but we're

1:40

seeing so much pushback in congress

1:42

right now that it looks like we might

1:43

not see

1:45

the free community college get done joe

1:47

biden does mention that he wants to try

1:49

to get as much of this three and a half

1:50

trillion dollar plan done as possible he

1:52

recognizes that he's going to end up

1:54

with less

1:55

probably something between 1.5 to

1:57

2 and a half trillion dollars and

1:59

mentions that we'll circle back in next

2:02

year to try to get more we're not going

2:04

to get 3.5 trillion dollars

2:06

we'll get less than that but we're going

2:08

to get it and we're going to come back

2:10

and get the rest he's confident that

2:12

he's going to be able to get all of it

2:14

but thinks that coming back next year

2:16

before the 2022 midterm elections might

2:19

be the way to do it

2:21

there are a lot of folks skeptical on

2:22

that though there are even now

2:24

suggestions that potentially democrats

2:26

are going to go for very short-term

2:29

extensions of things like the child tax

2:31

care credit which is something that joe

2:33

biden here talked about about how in the

2:35

next two months we're going to see that

2:37

sort of monthly child tax care credit

2:39

starting in january go away you get the

2:41

second half for 2021 on your tax return

2:44

and then there won't be any monthly

2:46

anymore for 2022

2:48

which they're hoping to renew but they

2:51

might not and so their argument is hey

2:53

maybe if we just do short term

2:55

extensions six months 12 month

2:57

extensions of certain things

2:59

maybe they'll become so popular that

3:01

it'll be easier to extend them in the

3:03

future so this is a way they're trying

3:05

to get that three and a half trillion

3:06

dollar package down made it clear again

3:09

no gas tax increase no one making under

3:11

400k we'll see a tax raise with the

3:13

exception of smokers though because

3:15

their tobacco taxes coming for that plan

3:17

mentions that 55 fortune 500 companies

3:20

paid zero in taxes goes back to talking

3:22

about them paying their fair share one

3:24

of these examples of course is amazon 24

3:26

billion dollar pre-tax profit in 2020

3:29

but uh

3:30

virtually no taxes paid

3:33

and some of the reasons for that even

3:35

though their tax returns are private

3:36

we're putting together pieces of the

3:38

puzzle here some of the reasons for that

3:40

are things like losses from prior years

3:42

being carried over tax credits for

3:44

things like research and development

3:47

and write-offs for stock options

3:50

so uh now obviously the argument for

3:52

companies being able to write things off

3:54

or depreciate their investments and

3:56

taking these tax benefits is that maybe

3:59

companies if they have these tax

4:00

benefits will invest more others say

4:02

these companies would have invested

4:04

anyway and so you're seeing a push for

4:06

sort of this minimum tax he's a big fan

4:09

of pushing pell grants and extending the

4:11

child tax credit investing in

4:13

historically black colleges but again he

4:16

made it very clear

4:17

that even though he wants to get a lot

4:19

of these things done like getting

4:21

medicare expansion to the 80 000 folks

4:24

waiting to qualify for medicare or

4:25

making sure that they can get vision

4:27

dental and

4:29

hearing care

4:30

or helping the average family with two

4:32

children that spends 26 on child care

4:35

every year

4:36

or getting more of our children involved

4:39

in preschool education like the fact

4:41

that right now we've only got about half

4:42

of our three and four-year-olds enrolled

4:44

in education whereas in germany france

4:46

and the uk they're at about 90 enrolled

4:48

so he talks about some of these

4:49

priorities but mentions that he's really

4:52

going to break up his game plan over the

4:55

next two years where what you're going

4:57

to see is uh some sort of probably one

5:00

and a half to two and a half trillion

5:01

dollar package now and then a second

5:03

piece later and he's not sure if he's

5:05

going to be able to get that free

5:07

college included at all

5:09

at least based on what he mentioned in

5:10

this interview here it is uh or i should

5:13

say this was a campaign promise of his

5:16

to get free community college and so

5:18

this is obviously uh this would be a

5:20

setback to his promises if he's not able

5:22

to get free community college as

5:24

especially as we're seeing

5:26

a lot of pushback for his three and a

5:28

half trillion dollar infrastructure plan

5:29

so that gives you an update uh in terms

5:31

of what the heck joe biden just said

5:33

thank you very much for watching and

5:35

folks we'll see you in the next one

5:36

thanks again bye
