Sony ZV-E10 Mark II vs Sony ZV-E10 - Worth The Upgrade?
FULL TRANSCRIPT
the Sony zv E10 Mark 1 and Mark I were
excellent cameras for Content creators
and beginners but the two cameras are
very different in terms of technology
and you might be surprised to hear the
newer and more expensive camera isn't
necessarily better because each camera
has its upsides and downsides so the
right camera really comes down to your
shooting Style and what you need it for
so let's do a deep dive into both of
these cameras and find out which camera
is right for you and why also I'll leave
links down below for the best pricing on
both of these cameras so first up let's
start off with the design of these two
cameras because while they might look
similar they're actually very different
both cameras are part of the Sony zv
line of cameras made for Content
creators YouTubers vloggers and Casual
beginners size-wise both cameras are
about the same size and weight but the
zv1 Mark II does have a slightly bigger
grip and that's because it actually has
a larger battery the zv1 Mark II uses
the newer and larger protop batteries
that you actually see in the
professional Sony cameras and this is
going to give you significantly better
performance in longer runtime and the
zv1 actually has smaller and older style
of battery which is really not known for
its runtime but the zv1 mark1 will still
give you pretty decent runtime you'll
get about 40 minutes on a single charger
video where the zv1 Mark II will do
almost double that and both cameras can
also be plugged in Via USBC for charging
and because they're part of the same
camera lineup the button layout is
actually very similar they both have a
single button to flip between photo
video and slow motion and this makes
using this camera much faster and they
also have two separate record buttons
for photo and video but but best of all
they both have a three capsule
microphone built right into the camera
that's going to give you very Solid
Audio but the sound in the zv1 Mark I
should be better not because the
microphone is better but rather because
the camera can actually detect if the
sound is coming from the front of the
camera or behind the camera and this
will lead to Better Sound isolation
giving you crisper results however the
audio on the zv1 Mark 1 is still very
solid one major Improvement of the Mark
I over the Mark 1 is that you can now
insert the SD card in the side of the
camera whereas the Mark 1 requires you
to open up the bottom battery
compartment and put it in that way which
is really annoying if you have your
camera on a tripod now both cameras have
a caculating screen that is touch
enabled however the zv1 Mark I only has
touch autofocus whereas the zv1 Mark II
has 100% touch control meaning you can
go into your menus using the touch you
can do touch autofocus and there's even
a quick menu on the main screen giving
you access to all of your major settings
making this camera not only faster to
use but you also don't have to go into
your menus as much or use the physical
buttons but let me just stop the hype
train right here if you guys are doing
any kind of talking head setup like this
chances are you're going to set up your
camera one time and then just never
change the settings again it doesn't
really make sense to pay the extra money
for a touchscreen unless you're doing on
the go vlogging or on the-go filming if
you have your camera in one spot chances
are you can save your money and not get
the more expensive camera but there's
still a lot more to talk about so let's
talk about how the photos and videos
from this camera actually look now
arguably the most important part of
image quality is the Sens sensor and
processor and the technology inside of
these cameras is very different the zv1
Mark II has a 26 megap apsc size sensor
and the zv1 Mark I has a 24 megapixel
apsc size sensor both of these sensors
are pretty standard for cameras like
this but to really understand the
difference in the actual visual image
quality between these two cameras I shot
a ton of side-by-side comparisons

[Music]
the zv1 Mark II in my opinion has richer
colors and better skin tones and holds
large patches of colors like a blue sky
a lot better without any sort of banding
or artifacting and another really big
difference between the two cameras is
low light shooting because of the
different sensors now both cameras are
really good at low light by default
because of how Sony designs their
sensors but the zv1 Mark II is much
cleaner at high isos you can record as
high as 6500 ISO and get very little
noise but once again let me stop the
hype train right here depending on how
much low light shooting you do and how
much you really care about the cleanness
of your image low light may not be a
huge factor for you and a lot of you
guys will be perfectly fine with the
Mark 1 camera but if you're shooting
something serious where every megapixel
matters the Mark I is a much better
option now one of the most underrated
things about any camera system that
people never really talk about is the
auto Focus performance so I'll be really
quick before you guys click away the zv1
Mark II has a newer and faster processor
that does give it better autofocus but
the autofocus in the Mark 1 was already
really great to begin with and in a
head-to-head walking test both cameras
perform just about the same and I don't
think most vloggers and content creators
will really see the difference however
one great thing about the Mark I camera
that I do think puts it ahead of the
Mark 1 is that the Mark I does have
subject detect mode for autofocus
subjects so if you're in any kind of
tricky shooting scenario where you just
wanted to specifically focus on animals
peoples insects birds this is a really
useful tool to have and one great
autofocus feature that both cameras have
is something known as product showcase
this is where you hold a product up to
the camera and the autofocus will
immediately snap to the product and then
back to your face when you put it down
and this can be really useful for beauty
vloggers Tech creators like me or anyone
else that's talking about products I
guess hm who else could use this mode
let me know if you have any ideas now
besides image quality let's talk about
how fast this camera can actually shoot
photos and videos and let's start with
video because this is mainly meant to be
a video first camera and when it comes
to video there's a massive difference
and I mean massive difference between
the zv1 Mark I and the Mark I both
cameras can shoot 4K at 24 and 30 frames
per second which is pretty fantastic and
this is probably the mode that most
vloggers and content creators are going
to be shooting on but this 4K video is
also down sampled from 6K in the zve 10
mark1 and 5.6 6K in the zv1 Mark I
basically giving you a much higher level
of detail and quality in a smaller and
more manageable 4K file size but one
place where the zve E10 Mark II really
shines is that can also do 4K at 60
frames per second and this is a feature
that everybody has been dying to get in
this camera and this is going to be a
huge deal for some serious content
creators out there but again you have to
ask yourself how much slow motion
shooting are you doing and are you
really going to need 4K for that slow
motion personally I shoot a lot of slow
motion so this is a feature I'm obsessed
with but it gets better the zv1 Mark I
has a maximum bit rate of 100 megabits
per second which is decent but not
amazing the zv1 Mark II can actually
shoot at a much higher quality video
Codec and can give you bit rate anywhere
between 200 to 600 megabits per second
basically your bit rate defines how much
usable data you have in your video file
even if they're both 4K video fil
and with a higher bit rate you're just
going to get more data to color grade
more data to play around within your
editing process so if you're serious
Creator this is a huge leap forward in
terms of the video technology in these
cameras and this is actually the same
bit rate in codec that you also get in
the much more expensive professional
Cinema Camera the fx30 and its little
brother the a6700 which are both PR LEL
cameras and the zv1 Mark II is
significantly cheaper than both of them
and both the Z cv10 Mark 1 and Mark I
can also shoot full HD at 60 frames per
second and 120 frames per second for two
times and five times slow motion but the
biggest reason that I'm personally
excited about the zv1 Mark II is that it
now has 10 bit color whereas the zv1
Mark I only had 8 bit color this is a
huge deal if you're someone that likes
to color grade and really make something
cinematic with your images and just to
give you guys an idea of how big of a
difference that is 8bit color is 16
million but 10bit color is one billion
color billion with a B it is a huge leap
forward so if you're someone that's
serious about your content this is going
to go a long way to helping you make
better content and both the Mark 1 and
Mark I also have slog 3 and Cinema
profiles built into the camera so you do
have a really nice starting point to
color grade your footage no matter which
camera you're using but with 10bit color
you are naturally going to have a much
easier time with the Mark I however if
you don't want to do any sort of serious
editing or spend a lot of time on it the
mark 2 actually has two features exactly
for you the Mark I now has Crea profiles
in it which look phenomenal right in
camera and this way you can simply use
this filter get a cool cinematic look to
your video and just shoot your video
like that with no color grading required
the Mark 1 also has created profiles
built into the camera but there's not as
many of them and they don't look quite
as good so this is a feature that might
be worth upgrading for and another
really cool feature for someone that
wants to get that cinematic look with
very little work is something known as
cinematic flly vog mode this is where
the camera puts black bars to the top
and bottom of your video to make it look
more like a movie although I personally
don't love this for YouTube but what I
do like about this mode is that you
actually have an adjustable color filter
that you can add to your video to get
different cinematic looks and even
adjust the color temperature to make it
look warmer colder to really dial in the
exact look that you want and even adjust
the speed of your autofocus pulse to
make them look more human and less like
a robotic camera which does add to the
immersion I suppose but I'm I'm going to
stop the hype train yet again the zv1
Mark II is a phenomenal camera but it's
only good for someone that wants to make
something cinematic someone that wants
to take their videos to the next level
and be a real artist or artist with
their videos but if you're talking about
real estate if you're doing cooking
tutorials you're talking about Finance
you're not really trying to make your
videos look like a movie and in that
case you probably won't see a huge
performance Boost from The Mark 1 to the
mark 2 in that case you might just want
to stick with the Mark 1 and save a bit
of cash but one thing about the Mark I
that I think everybody will appreciate
is that because it has a larger battery
life and also better thermals the Mark I
does not overheat that easily on 4K at
standard mode I was able to get an hour
plus of video and 4K 60 I got about 40
minutes before this camera overheated on
the higher 200 to 600 megabits per
second mode which is really only meant
for professional cinematic Shooters I
was able to get 4k at 24 for about 40
minutes and and 4K at 60 for about 28
minutes so if you're someone like me
that likes to shoot a lot of slow motion
or does long form talking head videos
like this the mark 2 is definitely a
better camera because it has better
thermals but if you're a vlogger that's
only shooting a minute here 2 minutes
there the Mark 1 is cheaper and honestly
save money where you can now despite
both of these cameras meant for shooting
video they're actually powerhouses when
it comes to shooting photos and whether
you're a YouTuber vlogger or content
creator at some point you're you're
going to need to shoot a YouTube
thumbnail or take a photo for your
Instagram and for that it's really
helpful to have a strong photo camera
with you both cameras can shoot 11
frames per second in 14bit raw which is
going to give you plenty of room to
color grade and edit your photos but
they also have a very large frame buffer
meaning you can shoot for a really long
time before these cameras need a break
so both of these cameras are good for
shooting action they can shoot for a
long time and you can edit the heck out
of your photos there's really not much
more that a content creator you YouTuber
or vlogger could possibly want from
their cameras and the autofocus is also
really excellent but you might be
surprised to hear that the Z10 mark1 is
actually better for photos because it
has a physical shutter that prevents any
sort of rolling shutter or Jell-O effect
that you sometimes see in fast moving
photos the zv1 Mark II only has an
electronic shutter so if you're doing a
lot of action shots or you're whipping
your camera side to side you're going to
see some sort of Jello-O or wobble
effect which might not look great your
especially going to notice this if
you're shooting any sort of straight
lines or if you're shooting balls that
sounds kind of dirty but you'll probably
have a tough time shooting sports with
the zv1 Mark I personally I wish they
kept the physical shutter in the Mark I
but unless you're shooting some really
intense action you probably won't notice
the difference between the two cameras
and the Mark 1 might be just fine for a
lot of you so who is the zv E10 Mark 2
and mark1 4 and is it worth the upgrade
if you already own the Mark 1 if you're
someone that's thinking of upgrading it
really depends on why you want the
upgrade for me personally the larger
battery and the touchcreen is 100% worth
it that alone I'm willing to pay the
,000 for because that touchscreen is
going to help me shoot faster it's going
to make my life easier and I'm going to
be able to record for a lot longer and
have to worry about overheating a lot
less but if you're someone that's simply
plopping this camera down in your office
talking to it while you're making a
talking head video you probably don't
need to upgrade because you'll never
actually use any of the touch features
or the extended battery life for the
most part you probably won't even see a
performance boost however if you're
someone that's making cinematic content
you will 100% see a difference your
color grading will look better you'll
have 4K at 60 frames per second and
overall you'll have a higher bit rate
codec that's going to allow you to push
the color grades a lot further than you
could with the 8 bit in the zve 10 Mark
1 so that kind of also leads me to who
are these cameras for the zv1 mark1 is
the ultra casual budget level
entry-level camera for someone that just
wants to make content talk to the camera
and you don't really have to be making
high quality cinematic content you're
just trying to communicate your message
to an audience maybe it's real estate
maybe it's cooking maybe it's Finance
you're just trying to make stuff with a
video The Mark I is a really good camera
for someone that maybe wants a cinematic
camera like the fx30 or the a6700
because it actually has the exact same
sensor in the zv1 Mark II and if if you
really want a cinematic camera on a
budget you're already making content and
you want to level up your content by
doing better color grading doing more
with your videos and just leveling up
your edits overall the Mark I is going
to help you achieve your vision a lot
easier with less hurdles and less
obstacles if you're an artist The zv1
Mark II is not only a great camera but
also very much worth the upgrade if you
already have the Mark 1 but whether
you're getting the Mark 1 or the Mark I
you want to make sure you get the best
possible price on your camera and for
that make sure to check out the links in
the description down below for the best
possible pricing on this camera and I
we'll see you in the next video peace
