this video is brought to you by extra go

0:01

to medkevin.com extra to learn more well

0:04

folks we've got a lot to talk about

0:06

because i'm about to play you the lucid

0:08

air dream edition review which i bought

0:09

and paid over a hundred and sixty nine

0:11

thousand dollars for

0:13

and i filmed this video within about the

0:15

first week of owning it but i've got to

0:17

give you an update so yesterday on

0:19

february 21st 2022 there was a recall

0:22

calling for 204 lucid air dream edition

0:25

vehicles to be returned to lucid for an

0:28

update that had to do with something

0:30

that could malfunction within the front

0:32

bumper of the vehicle and could affect

0:34

braking or potentially steering well

0:37

unfortunately something happened to my

0:39

lucid yesterday that was not related to

0:43

this recall

0:45

as we pulled the lucid out of the garage

0:47

my father-in-law was driving we pulled

0:49

the lucid out of the garage all of a

0:51

sudden a lot of lights came on and

0:53

started flashing warning indicators that

0:56

the steering for the car had failed

0:59

the car steering column had completely

1:01

frozen up to where it was almost as if

1:03

uh that the steering wheel was locked

1:05

but if you pushed hard enough you could

1:07

still turn the wheel it was just

1:09

probably somewhere around five to six

1:11

times as difficult as a power steering

1:13

steering wheel but based on

1:15

well my conversation with my father when

1:16

i was driving at this time

1:18

and the car unfortunately had to be

1:20

towed to the lucid facility in torrance

1:24

now it has been confirmed that whatever

1:26

issue this vehicle had is so far not

1:29

related to the recall it is a separate

1:32

issue and it's unclear why the steering

1:36

malfunction the steering was working

1:38

totally fine

1:39

well since we got the car

1:41

uh and having parked it in the garage

1:43

nothing happened to the car obviously in

1:45

the garage other than pulling it out and

1:47

turning it on and all of a sudden the

1:48

steering had just completely failed so a

1:50

little odd on that i wanted to give that

1:52

disclaimer here up front and also a

1:54

disclaimer that unfortunately my mic

1:57

placement in the video that i'm about to

1:58

play for you wasn't ideal so you're

2:00

going to hear a little bit of ruffling i

2:02

apologize for that

2:03

i almost didn't want to post the video

2:05

because it personally bothers me but i

2:07

thought hey you know what the

2:08

information i think is more valuable

2:10

than the noise is annoying at least

2:13

hopefully

2:14

let's get into it hey everyone meet

2:16

kevin here today we are finally

2:17

reviewing the lucid air dream edition

2:21

and i'm going to tell you exactly which

2:23

number of production this vehicle is as

2:26

well which is kind of exciting because

2:27

we took delivery the third week of

2:29

january of this vehicle lucid had a very

2:32

ambitious goal of delivering

2:34

550 of these by the end of q4 2021 we

2:39

got this the third week of january we're

2:41

going to talk about which number lucid

2:42

we are and what we think about the car

2:44

after having the vehicle now for just a

2:46

little over two weeks so let's get into

2:49

the car

2:50

but first one of the things i have to

2:52

say that i absolutely love is when you

2:54

drive this car around everybody looks at

2:57

it it is a head turner of a car and when

2:59

you look at it

3:00

probably one of the reasons for that is

3:02

this two-toned color that the vehicle

3:04

has this is by far my favorite sort of a

3:07

burgundy style

3:09

metallic paint color as well you can

3:11

choose multiple different lucid options

3:13

by far i recommend this one as my

3:16

favorite and also what i've seen a lot

3:17

of other folks recommend them though the

3:18

other colors are great as well this

3:20

two-tone though big head turner here uh

3:23

and one of the things that you'll notice

3:24

on the lucid over for example a tesla at

3:27

least what we found is the attention to

3:30

the detail is a lot better one of my

3:33

biggest takeaways of the car is that

3:35

this car seems to be something that

3:37

somebody maybe in that age range between

3:39

45 and 65 might really enjoy especially

3:42

if they're looking for that mercedes bmw

3:45

style finish you'll see that on the

3:47

inside as well whereas tesla seems to

3:49

appeal more towards that 25 to 45 male

3:52

demographic

3:53

lucid i think might more equally appeal

3:55

to males and females but also that older

3:57

demographic looking for maybe more of

3:59

that attention to detail and i think

4:00

that's where lucid really takes off now

4:02

is it worth the extra money this vehicle

4:04

right here it was a hundred and sixty

4:06

nine thousand dollars it's the top of

4:07

the line vehicle that they have they

4:09

plan to come out with less expensive

4:11

vehicles in the future car has a zero to

4:13

60 of 2.4 seconds which is a little bit

4:17

less than the model s plaid which sights

4:20

a 1.9 0 to 60 although that doesn't

4:22

include that first foot roll off so it's

4:25

really more like a 2.1 for the tesla

4:28

model s plaid versus a 2.42 on the lucid

4:32

here on sport mode it does have over

4:34

1100 horsepower when you're in comfort

4:36

mode it drives at about 600 horsepower

4:39

so you've got a really good kick no

4:40

matter which comfort setting you're in

4:42

and the battery's got a 471 mile range

4:45

which i think is really incredible this

4:46

is the performance model there are two

4:49

styles one is the longer range which

4:50

boasts the 520 mile range

4:53

this is the model that's a little bit

4:54

quicker but you sacrifice about 40 miles

4:56

40 to 50 miles of range on it so let's

4:58

uh let's take a look at both the front

5:00

and the trunk and then we'll go ahead

5:02

and hop in to the car and we'll take it

5:04

for a spin

5:05

there we go now one of the things that i

5:07

do like about the lucid over the tesla

5:09

here is that when you hold down the key

5:11

it actually has a motor to open and shut

5:15

the front and i really appreciate that

5:17

because uh for 170 000 vehicle i feel

5:20

like it should have

5:22

extra luxuries and the tesla model s

5:24

plaid doesn't do that so this is going

5:26

to be i'm going to be regularly

5:27

comparing to the tesla model s plaid

5:28

which i think that's the point

5:30

nice a nice front space here you do also

5:33

have this little uh

5:35

usually you only see this in trunks

5:37

where you have sort of another layer

5:38

where you could put things underneath

5:40

and so i really like that you have a

5:42

very deep frunk here and this uh

5:45

sort of foldable

5:47

cover here feels very nice and sturdy

5:50

which is really important in these one

5:51

of the issues i had in my tesla model x

5:53

was i put heavy objects on the back and

5:55

then it broke and sort of fell through

5:57

in the trunk but again actually having

5:59

this deep storage compartment in the

6:01

front very nice and they do also have a

6:03

button here that if i hold the button

6:05

it'll automatically close this so so no

6:07

more putting your hands on the hood and

6:08

trying to slam it down

6:10

something that's very nice one of the

6:11

things that folks love about the lucid

6:14

is the fact that it also comes with

6:15

lidar this is your lidar sensor here

6:18

it's got 14 cameras throughout the

6:20

vehicle we've got radar obviously the

6:23

sonar radar everywhere but

6:25

the big selling feature here is that in

6:26

the future they expect to have

6:28

autonomous driving capabilities right

6:30

now they don't yet and that's one of the

6:32

downsides of lucid right now is that

6:35

they don't even have the adaptive cruise

6:37

control yet now that's expected to be

6:39

released within the next few weeks but

6:40

i've also been hearing that it's

6:42

expected to be released in an

6:43

over-the-air update within the next few

6:45

weeks for the next few weeks because

6:47

i've been hearing about that for a while

6:49

so at some point in the future we'll get

6:51

more and more uh self-driving

6:53

technologies uh especially cruise

6:55

control which i feel like is a bare

6:56

minimum that we should have that we

6:57

don't have right now it's got the

6:59

technology just doesn't have the best

7:02

software yet to make that happen

7:03

apparently

7:04

so here's our trunk

7:07

also with the automatic opening closer

7:10

one of the things that i thought was

7:11

really ingenious about this trunk though

7:13

is i've regularly wanted to put things

7:16

in my trunk only to realize that i need

7:18

to put the seats down and then whether

7:20

it's on the tesla or almost any other

7:21

car you have to go open the side doors

7:23

run around and put the seats down one of

7:25

the benefits of the lucid is this i can

7:28

just pull

7:30

this lever here and it pushes the seat

7:33

and releases the seat and the seat belt

7:35

of both the bench and the side seat and

7:37

now if i were to push something in the

7:39

seats would just fall forward so i don't

7:41

have to walk around it's those little

7:42

luxuries that i think were quite

7:44

brilliant for lucid now over here you

7:47

get a little bit less visibility into

7:48

the trunk just the way the vehicle is

7:50

designed but you do have a decent amount

7:52

of space here another compartment where

7:54

you can place more objects down here

7:57

decent size also very sturdy here and

8:00

tesla has really improved their

8:02

sturdiness of these back compartments as

8:04

well another thing that's pretty neat is

8:07

and we'll show you this on the inside

8:08

but they do have a hatch here so if you

8:10

were going to put in skis or some form

8:11

of longer objects you could get a nice

8:14

six foot distance from trunk to the

8:17

inside through that little hatch hole

8:19

there so we'll go ahead and close this

8:20

off

8:21

the color really remarkable in the sun

8:24

when you get into the shade sometimes

8:27

it's a little bit harder to tell the

8:29

color of the vehicle so for example if

8:31

we come around to this side you lose a

8:32

little bit of that really majestic

8:34

burgundy color and it turns into a

8:36

little bit more of oh is that is that

8:38

black is it just dark red what is it so

8:40

in the sun is when when this really

8:42

stands out i also really enjoy

8:44

these these hubcaps i think they've

8:46

they've got a really nice finish and

8:49

these are a

8:50

probably an aluminum cap here so unlike

8:53

the tesla model 3 which as you would

8:55

expect it's not plastic it's

8:57

this is this is much nicer feels again

9:00

more luxurious higher quality

9:02

and again that attention to detail here

9:04

even to where the nuts for the wheel

9:07

have been uh either powder coated black

9:10

or whatever to really blend in with uh

9:12

with the aluminum lid that you have here

9:14

so really nice work low profile wheels

9:16

of course now one thing that's a little

9:18

weird coming from a tesla is you have

9:20

this temptation to push the handle here

9:23

which you're not supposed to do you can

9:25

and if you push this down

9:27

it will open

9:29

or it will search for a key that's close

9:31

but the handles are supposed to present

9:33

themselves when the key comes close

9:35

you're not supposed to push down on it

9:37

so that is something for tesla owners

9:38

that's a little bit of an adjustment

9:40

but very nice quality feel on the doors

9:42

the mirrors open and close obviously

9:45

when the vehicle locks or unlocks

9:48

okay so let's now hop on into the inside

9:51

and get to the meat and potatoes so now

9:53

we're inside the lucid and one of the

9:56

first things that i absolutely love

9:58

about this is you've got this really

10:01

neat looking suede right here that

10:03

contrasts with the wood veneer

10:06

and then physical buttons here the

10:08

physical buttons i will say one thing

10:10

that does bother me about the tesla is

10:12

not having physical buttons for

10:13

adjusting the temperature control you do

10:15

have controls on your steering wheel but

10:18

having nice buttons for just quickly

10:20

adjusting the temperature uh very very

10:22

nice here but now for a quick word from

10:24

our sponsor extra go to met kevin.com

10:26

extra to learn more folks getting into

10:29

real estate in my opinion is one of the

10:30

best long-term ways to build your wealth

10:32

but to get started in real estate you

10:34

got to have a credit score and you got

10:35

to stay out of consumer debt and for

10:37

those of you who are younger or maybe

10:39

you ran into some trouble in the past

10:40

there are very few ways to raise your

10:42

credit score other than getting a credit

10:43

card and if you don't use a credit card

10:45

properly you could actually ruin your

10:47

credit score more and prevent yourself

10:48

from building wealth however the extra

10:51

debit card now allows you to have the

10:54

best of both you can build your credit

10:56

score without incurring debt and it

10:58

gives you one percent cash back and

11:00

rewards see the best part about the

11:02

extra debit card is first of all it's

11:04

super easy to use because it connects to

11:05

the existing bank account you already

11:07

have

11:08

then once you connect extra to your

11:10

existing bank account you make purchases

11:12

on the extra debit card just like you

11:13

would with any other card

11:15

extra then spots you for the money

11:17

pays themselves back the next day from

11:20

your bank account so you're spending

11:21

money that you have

11:22

but because of that process

11:25

they can report to the credit bureaus

11:27

that you paid a credit line off timely

11:29

and now you could build your credit

11:31

score with a debit card it's super easy

11:34

to use so go to metkevin.com extra to

11:37

learn more

11:39

and again very beautiful luxurious

11:41

finish and feel you just you look at it

11:43

and and you see the speakers how they're

11:45

seamlessly built in over here and you

11:47

can't help but feel like it's a luxury

11:50

vehicle like this is a 180 000 vehicle

11:53

there's no no corners cut the finishes

11:57

everywhere you look the trim fits

11:59

the rubber seals aren't coming peeling

12:02

off which even on my tesla model s plaid

12:04

which i've had for a month i've already

12:05

got a rubber seal right here that's

12:07

that's peeling off you just don't see

12:09

some of those

12:11

quicker imperfections now that doesn't

12:13

mean this vehicle is perfect one of the

12:15

things that does bother me is that when

12:17

you're driving and you need to use this

12:19

center console here you have to look

12:21

down so let's give an example here let's

12:24

say

12:25

i'm driving the vehicle

12:28

uh like this and i need to do something

12:30

on my center console like for example i

12:32

want to switch to the sprint mode from

12:34

smooth mode i really have to take my

12:36

eyes off the road to look down here

12:39

and that's to me a little bit

12:40

dangerous i much prefer having the

12:44

console here in front of me rather than

12:46

down below

12:47

now when you do switch from comfort to

12:50

sprint mode

12:51

it does also regularly give you this

12:54

this warning here that sprint mode

12:56

enables maximum power and torque

12:58

recommended to only be used by skilled

13:00

and advanced drivers under suitable

13:02

driving conditions

13:04

with with lucid specifications summer

13:06

tires installed

13:07

this warning i think there should

13:09

absolutely be a little button here that

13:11

says never show me this again because

13:12

quite frankly it's a little exhausting

13:14

every single time i switch from smooth

13:17

to sprint to get this warning i i got it

13:20

i never want to see it again so that

13:22

bothers me a little bit something else

13:24

that's interesting is there are

13:26

many redundancies that that i don't know

13:29

are the best for example if you want to

13:32

open the charging port and i go into

13:34

park here and i want to open the

13:35

charging port i can press this button

13:37

right here to open the charging port

13:38

which opens it up over here i can go

13:41

into the openings menu over here

13:45

and i can open the charging port through

13:47

this method in this case i just closed

13:48

it and then the third method is just

13:50

touching it and pushing it on the

13:52

outside which

13:53

it seems like

13:54

one of these at least one of these is

13:56

unnecessary so one of the things as an

13:59

investor that i love about tesla is that

14:01

they try to minimize those extra

14:03

redundancies because that just ends up

14:05

going into profit now sometimes

14:08

focusing on extra profit i feel like can

14:10

come at the expense of taking away some

14:12

conveniences for the customer personally

14:15

i'd really like to have an automatic

14:17

open closing front

14:19

on the model s plaid which which you

14:20

have here but you don't have there

14:23

that in my opinion is just another way

14:24

for tesla to farm additional profit

14:26

which you can't blame them for that but

14:29

these sorts of redundancies would be an

14:30

easy simplification for lucid i think to

14:34

simplify their their manufacturing

14:35

processes but that's just one example

14:37

one thing that might explain why we have

14:40

the opportunity to have a charging

14:41

button here is because we can actually

14:43

make this screen disappear which is

14:45

quite neat if we slide up right here

14:48

this screen slides away and disappears

14:50

and and now we can place whatever we

14:53

want over here we've got another little

14:54

storage compartment here and this is one

14:57

thing that's neat is if you're not

14:58

familiar with the lucid and let's just

15:00

say worst case scenario somebody broke

15:02

into your car or whatever

15:04

that might be a pretty safe spot you can

15:06

kind of see through it over here but i i

15:09

don't think it's very intuitive for

15:10

people to think that you can make this

15:11

entire screen disappear as an owner of

15:14

course you would know that not

15:15

suggesting that anybody wants to get

15:17

broken into

15:18

uh and not saying that this would

15:20

absolutely stop somebody either

15:22

now

15:22

one thing this vehicle does have as well

15:24

is facial recognition so when you create

15:27

a profile under settings

15:30

uh we'll go over here to access and

15:32

profiles once you create a different

15:34

profile

15:35

which right now it's under my

15:36

father-in-law bill that's because i have

15:38

given my father-in-law bill this car and

15:41

so he has been loving it and uh he's

15:43

lending it back to me today for this

15:45

review

15:46

one of the things that's neat is you can

15:48

set up multiple different profiles here

15:50

and there's a little camera under the

15:52

speedometer here

15:54

that's kind of like face id on the uh

15:57

iphone or really any smartphone at this

15:59

point and it will automatically adjust

16:02

your seat and your preferences to your

16:04

profile based on identifying your face

16:07

which is great that's something that the

16:09

tesla doesn't have you'd have to

16:10

manually click on different profiles for

16:12

the seat adjustments or whatever

16:14

you can also turn on which i'm not sure

16:16

how i feel about this but you can also

16:18

jump over

16:20

screen is a little not as responsive

16:22

i've noticed sometimes it has a little

16:23

bit of a lag to it you could also turn

16:25

on seat massagers in the front so there

16:28

we go

16:29

you can set up multiple different

16:30

massages and different styles of

16:32

massages and different strengths here

16:34

because it is a seat that's very very

16:36

comfortable unlike a massage chair you

16:38

don't want to massage hair you sit in it

16:40

and it's off you you still feel the

16:42

plastic knobs in that uh this you don't

16:45

you would have no idea this is a massage

16:46

chair unless i showed you this this

16:48

setting or told you as a massage there

16:50

but because of that you get a little bit

16:51

of a less effective massage i'd say i

16:53

think it's a little bit more like

16:55

a vibrating chair so i'm not sure if

16:58

this is necessarily something i would

17:00

pay for if it were an option if they

17:02

come out with the less expensive lucid

17:04

models which we expect i would imagine

17:06

this is going to be one of the features

17:07

that ends up disappearing but they have

17:08

this for driver passenger

17:10

another thing that i love though which i

17:12

do think is missing from a lot of

17:14

vehicles

17:15

first of all many different options for

17:17

adjusting the seat in addition to

17:19

bringing out a thigh support which is

17:21

quite interesting i can extend the thigh

17:23

support and right here under my legs

17:25

the the seat actually extends forward

17:28

which is quite an incredible adjustment

17:29

you can get this moving out quite far

17:31

they do not yet have the model and they

17:33

expect to in the future where in the

17:35

future in the back you might actually be

17:36

able to lie the seats down to some

17:38

degree that's not out just yet but i

17:40

wanted to talk about the seat heating

17:43

and that's probably under this little

17:45

climate section here there we go the

17:47

seed heating what's really incredible

17:49

here is you can heat two different

17:51

sections so let's there we go we'll turn

17:53

the heater on so i can heat my back

17:56

or i could just heat the seat

17:58

and i really think that is an incredible

17:59

innovation that they have the heater for

18:01

the back and the seats separate so that

18:03

way if i just wanted

18:05

my bottom or just my back i have that

18:07

choice

18:08

now there are seat heaters in the back

18:10

as well though i don't have that dual

18:11

control for the back

18:13

there is also steering wheel heating and

18:16

cooling which was also quite neat

18:19

another thing that's super neat is as

18:21

long as you have the

18:23

vents open for your the feet compartment

18:26

you can actually turn on cooled seats so

18:29

if you wanted to you could program this

18:31

to precondition the car on a hot day to

18:33

cool your back and bottom so that way

18:35

you sat down on cooled seats

18:37

the way it does that is it pulls air in

18:39

from under the seat and brings that

18:41

through the seat so it sort of comes out

18:43

through the little holes of the leather

18:45

here really really incredible feature i

18:47

haven't seen that before so i love some

18:48

of these extra luxuries they also have

18:51

themed lighting which is a little harder

18:53

to see right now it works really well

18:55

during the night time to trim around the

18:57

doors and and the sills can change color

19:00

one of the things that i really wish

19:02

they had when we changed this sort of

19:04

mood lighting here is i wish rather than

19:06

just having a brightness control they

19:09

let me pick whatever color i want right

19:11

now i only have six options here and i

19:14

expect that because this is an led strip

19:16

maybe that's something they could

19:17

introduce in the future but if you

19:19

didn't like the teal the blue or the

19:20

purple or the pink you're kind of stuck

19:22

you're limited to the color options that

19:24

they give you i think this is like a

19:25

yellowish over here like the lucid color

19:28

so this should be more like a phillips

19:30

hue where i have a full range of colors

19:33

that i could choose from

19:34

charging is done with electrify america

19:37

these vehicles can charge very very

19:39

quickly and remember we get up to

19:41

uh

19:42

470 miles with this one and if we start

19:45

pre-conditioning to charge this on a

19:48

supercharger we can charge to 80 within

19:51

20 minutes on this vehicle which is

19:53

quite incredible really really good

19:55

battery management and that's one of the

19:57

things that lucid uh really prides

19:59

itself on is is their battery technology

20:01

their battery management technology so

20:03

very incredible now hopping over here to

20:06

the center console one thing that i

20:08

didn't love as much is

20:10

this right here not as nice as the tesla

20:13

with the tesla model s i can kind of tap

20:16

on this here and then it automatically

20:18

retracts this feels a little tight

20:20

depending on how cool or warm it is in

20:22

the day

20:23

and then when i do finally get it all

20:24

the way back and we take out for example

20:26

the masks that are in here because well

20:28

it's california

20:30

if i take my phone and i want to charge

20:33

my phone

20:34

in the car i can't fit it with a case

20:37

unfortunately in the little charging

20:39

slot here which is not ideal if i even

20:42

took it out of the case though it's

20:44

quite tight

20:46

and one of the things the issues that

20:48

i've had is once i stick it in i've

20:49

actually never gotten it to show up a

20:52

charge uh yet so i've kind of given up

20:55

on the idea of using the charger that's

20:57

built into here but the tesla makes it

20:58

very nice and that you could put your

21:00

phone down

21:01

and through the case or whatever it's

21:03

going to give you that that inductive

21:05

wireless charging now because i'm going

21:06

to be talking about her i have disabled

21:08

alexa but this card does come with alexa

21:11

one of the things that i don't love

21:13

about it though is it seems like the

21:15

alexa that they've set up is really more

21:18

of a third-party api poll from alexa so

21:22

it's not the alexa that you think it is

21:25

it's named alexa it can pull some things

21:28

like it could you know help you navigate

21:30

it can tell you what time it is and

21:32

basic things but if you said for example

21:34

hey alexa add batteries to my shopping

21:36

cart you get this error message that

21:38

says uh this this third-party software

21:42

is not supported

21:43

with that feature and i think that's a

21:45

little bit of a bummer so you're not

21:46

really getting the full alexa experience

21:49

there are opportunities though or there

21:51

will be i'm told in the future to add a

21:53

siri and apple car play in the future

21:56

i'm not exactly sure

21:58

when that's expected to come out usually

22:00

with car manufacturers they like to tell

22:02

you that oh it's coming but it can take

22:05

a little bit longer for things to

22:06

actually come out now you get to

22:09

log in of course to your alexa app

22:11

through amazon spotify title tune in i

22:14

heart radio pocket cast and so on and so

22:16

forth no car play yet expected to be

22:18

coming and again the alexa

22:20

kind of uh i would say it's like 20

22:22

percent alexa and 80 percent kind of

22:26

weird delayed voice recognition software

22:29

but not not the best but that is

22:31

something that could easily be updated

22:33

through an over-the-air update now let's

22:34

give the car a little bit of a drive and

22:36

what i do want to show off

22:38

is something that i think is wonderful

22:40

and that is the parking feature of the

22:42

vehicle so let's give this a little bit

22:44

of a drive here

22:45

and we'll find some cars to park between

22:48

and we'll give it a park uh one thing

22:50

while we're driving it and it might be a

22:52

little bit hard to hear on the camera

22:54

but

22:55

you

22:56

definitely hear the the engines a lot

23:00

more in this car let's try to give that

23:02

a listen here and see if you can hear it

23:04

so we'll be quiet here and i'll just

23:06

give it a little bit of gas here and see

23:07

if you can hear that engine you

23:08

definitely hear it more than you would

23:10

on a tesla

23:16

it doesn't sound bad it's not by any

23:19

means obnoxious or offensive but you can

23:21

definitely hear it if and this is on

23:23

comfort mode if we throw this onto

23:25

sprint mode you end up hearing the

23:27

vehicle a lot more let's go ahead and

23:28

jump on into sprint mode and let's give

23:30

it a comparison to sprint mode

23:36

that's not bad so not much of a

23:37

difference in sprint mode but you do

23:39

notice the sound a lot more than you

23:41

would in a tesla so you're hearing the

23:43

mechanics of the engines and the battery

23:46

much more i don't think it's by any

23:48

means like i said offensive it is just

23:50

something that's different when you're

23:51

in this you definitely hear the engine

23:53

and battery functioning a lot more than

23:55

you would in a tesla one of the things

23:57

that does bother me about the car is it

23:59

makes a lot of noises a lot of sounds

24:02

and those these are controllable ones in

24:04

terms of chimes i kind of wish they had

24:07

a joe mode in the lucid joe mode in the

24:10

tesla was essentially an opportunity to

24:13

reduce the volume of all of the alerts

24:16

by a substantial percentage so that it

24:17

wouldn't wake children up who might be

24:19

sleeping in the back and that was

24:20

because somebody named joe was

24:22

complaining to elon musk on twitter that

24:24

the chimes were too loud i don't believe

24:26

we have that option here on the loose it

24:28

and i will say the chimes are a little

24:30

loud

24:31

you also have menu sounds

24:36

and you can see a little bit of a lag in

24:37

the sound there

24:39

it's minor but

24:41

the screens do take a moment so you can

24:43

see the lag if i click here how long it

24:45

takes to actually jump

24:48

yeah it's okay it's definitely not as

24:50

responsive as let's say an ipad but okay

24:52

let's give this thing a little 0 to 60

24:54

here this does not have a cheetah mode

24:56

at least not that i'm aware of let's see

24:58

if i hit the brake in the gas and we

25:00

were actually in drive i don't actually

25:02

expect anything yeah see the car does

25:03

want to try to go so no no cheetah mode

25:05

here that's okay

25:06

so we're going to go ahead and give this

25:08

a little 0 to 60 here we are on sprint

25:10

mode

25:11

and let's see how it goes

25:18

it's not bad

25:20

uh so a little bit of a bumpy road here

25:23

the

25:25

0-60 definitely isn't uh as as uh much

25:29

of a punch as the tesla model s plaid

25:32

but then again that's that difference of

25:33

about those uh three

25:35

tenths of a second driving the the plaid

25:37

all the time could make me jaded but

25:39

this is very very incredibly fast and

25:41

quite frankly it's probably more fast

25:43

than any car really needs to be so i

25:46

don't

25:47

i would not say that somebody should buy

25:49

the plaid for the three tenths of a

25:50

second this has a lot of power in it you

25:53

really feel that 1100 horsepower the car

25:56

it feels feels good it feels tight while

25:58

it's going uh

26:00

even just mid drive accelerations as

26:03

well are really powerful and incredible

26:06

you see that as well uh on the highway

26:09

if you're going 65 miles an hour and you

26:11

quickly need to pass somebody you're

26:13

able to go from 65 to 90 not that you

26:15

want to very very quickly which is

26:17

quite incredible so very very impressive

26:20

i think there might be a little bit of a

26:23

lag time though between when you

26:26

hit the gas oh i suppose it's not really

26:28

the gas anymore the accelerator and when

26:30

the vehicle actually launches

26:33

it's very very slight but i'm going to

26:35

give that a little try here again

26:38

just just so we can see the launch right

26:42

here let's see if there's any lag time i

26:44

feel like i noticed that in the last

26:46

time all right foot on the gas and we're

26:49

ready to go and three two

26:53

yeah i feel a little bit of this that

26:55

you you can almost hear the engine make

26:58

this

26:58

uh sound and then it goes let me do that

27:01

one more time so i'm gonna push in three

27:05

two one

27:08

yeah it's it feels like there's like

27:10

this like it's shifting into gear uh

27:12

kind of mode so a fractional fractional

27:15

of a second difference uh in terms of

27:17

performance but it's something that is

27:19

noticeable by the way also if somebody

27:21

else is trying to get in the car and

27:23

you're trying to unlock one of the other

27:25

car doors i haven't found the best way

27:27

to do that because right now we're in

27:29

park

27:30

if the car is locked all the handles are

27:32

in if the car is unlocked the handles

27:33

come out but sometimes you don't have

27:35

the best responsiveness on the door

27:37

handles on the outside even though the

27:40

handle pops out when he touches the

27:42

handle to prompt it because the car is

27:44

locked it's not letting

27:47

someone pull on the handle to open it

27:49

which makes sense but then why is the

27:51

handle popping out in the first place so

27:52

that's a little weird that the handle is

27:54

popping out

27:55

to essentially imply that you could open

27:57

the door so sometimes that quick in and

27:59

out loading at the back doors probably

28:01

not the best or maybe we're just doing

28:03

it wrong but it's something we noticed

28:05

oh and given that someone in the back is

28:07

not buckled up leave that for a second

28:09

listen to the sound of it they're really

28:11

good at making their sounds kind of

28:12

annoying

28:14

which i get it for for being buckled up

28:16

but that's actually the rear seat buckle

28:18

and i haven't seen that before where it

28:19

pings you for a rear seat now another

28:21

thing that's pretty neat is see that

28:22

sunscreen at the back of the car well

28:25

when i put the car in reverse watch what

28:27

happens

28:28

the sunscreen automatically collapses to

28:31

maximize your view out of that window

28:33

and when i go back and drive it doesn't

28:35

do it instantly but usually after about

28:37

30 seconds that sunscreen comes right

28:38

back up now let's go ahead and give this

28:40

thing a park and see how the auto park

28:43

feature works because i will say having

28:45

all of the uh cameras the lidar and the

28:48

radar all of these technologies together

28:50

the auto park is is absolutely

28:52

incredible so let's just try to park in

28:54

between some of these these tight cars

28:56

uh tightly parked cars over here we'll

28:58

pick one and we'll see how it performs

29:00

the tesla does this well

29:03

when it feels like it that's one of the

29:05

problems is the tesla does not always

29:08

give me the option to auto park so i

29:09

almost never auto park with the tesla

29:11

because i rarely get the option to it

29:14

just doesn't pop up

29:15

this one does tend to consistently pop

29:17

up though let's give it a shot over here

29:20

hearing that engine and that battery

29:21

noise again a little bit more

29:23

it is definitely different uh from the

29:25

tesla let's see if we can fit in here so

29:27

now we're gonna hit auto park

29:29

so this is the spot that i want i'll

29:32

turn the auto park on now now i'm gonna

29:34

drive forward to give it an idea to be

29:37

aware to look for this gap over here

29:40

drive forward slowly and then this is

29:41

where i would start the park there we go

29:44

select a spot there's really only one

29:46

perfect it's identified that there's

29:48

only one now to start auto park release

29:50

brake and steering wheel no problem here

29:52

we go

29:53

auto park is now in progress

30:01

oh it's going into the driveway

30:05

it thinks it's a driveway again dude uh

30:07

well that that did not work well

30:10

so here's a really tight spot it does

30:13

see a spot available so it thinks it can

30:15

make it so hold break select a parking

30:17

spot let's select and here we go

30:20

let's see what happens i'm kind of

30:22

nervous

30:23

this is really tight

30:25

uh and again i don't think it's

30:27

recognizing this as a parallel parking

30:29

spot which is something that it's done

30:32

multiple times now

30:34

uh yep it it definitely thinks this is a

30:37

back in spot now this is probably the

30:39

third time we've tried this and while

30:41

i've had phenomenal experiences before

30:44

at this point this is just funny so i'm

30:46

just gonna let it park the way it thinks

30:48

it wants to park stop before the curb oh

30:50

my god dude okay

30:53

i

30:53

hit the brake there because we were for

30:55

sure about to hit the curb

30:57

i'm not sure what it thinks on the

30:59

screen here is happening

31:01

but let's go ahead and take a look at

31:03

what the car just

31:06

saw versus what was on screen and this

31:08

is with the lidar and all these other

31:09

sensors okay and i i used to have good

31:12

experience auto parking this but let's

31:14

go take a look at what it's doing we

31:16

stopped before hitting the curb

31:19

but we only stopped before hitting the

31:20

curb

31:21

because i frantically hit the brakes so

31:24

this is the auto park this is about the

31:26

third time i've tried and

31:28

it has

31:29

it has auto backed itself in i did have

31:32

to stop it myself but you know i it

31:35

didn't hit another vehicle it's about to

31:37

hit a curb but that's okay we prevented

31:38

that from happening so

31:40

i don't know if it has lidar in the back

31:42

we do know it has that forward-facing

31:43

lidar so who knows but a little bit

31:45

disappointed in that but oh well

31:47

technology might still be developing so

31:49

maybe don't trust the auto part yet okay

31:51

one click locks the car

31:53

double click unlocks the car now i can

31:56

come over here push

31:58

i believe onto the bottom or the top

32:00

corner here there we go i do really like

32:02

that i think that's very luxurious how

32:04

it does that so i'm not exactly sure how

32:06

to close that manually from the outside

32:08

it might just be a time thing does the

32:10

door look at that door functions nicely

32:12

with the charge port like that that's

32:14

fine as you would expect now one thing

32:16

that is neat is we have four little rail

32:18

protrusions here between the glass

32:20

and these are for ski racks that you

32:23

could add either aftermarket or i'm not

32:25

sure if lucid manufactures any but

32:26

that's that's what these are for okay

32:28

let's go ahead and hop on into the back

32:30

here you see pushing down into the

32:32

handle bad idea bad habit that i have

32:35

it's better to take the the actual

32:37

remote and double click to unlock

32:39

there we go and now we'll go ahead and

32:41

lift on this here perfect

32:43

this is my favorite part about the lucid

32:46

it's sitting in the back and not driving

32:48

everything back here feels really nice

32:50

and luxurious i love the leather handle

32:52

hold here there's just so much space

32:54

though there's comfort for your legs in

32:57

the future if they have captain's chairs

32:59

here i can absolutely see these lying

33:01

down

33:02

there's so

33:03

much space and i really like that now

33:06

this is kind of neat if i open this

33:07

compartment here not only do i get

33:11

this cup holder here but i also get

33:13

another little uh center console which i

33:16

think is quite neat the tesla model s

33:18

plaid does not have this so i really

33:20

enjoy this feature here and it just

33:22

feels great the stitching is beautiful

33:25

on the vehicle

33:26

and it just

33:27

you just want to touch it it's kind of

33:29

weird but it is obsessively nice

33:32

the way it feels the way it smells the

33:34

way it looks and the differences that

33:37

you have here as well with leather here

33:40

to this sort of leather stitching that

33:42

changes to the front actually having a

33:45

darker colored seat you've got the black

33:47

and the

33:48

beige stitching here with this cloth

33:51

here

33:53

and a more

33:54

leatherette style plastic finish here

33:58

and then a different style here so

33:59

really i mean the amount of different

34:00

materials in this car

34:02

makes it very very interesting i can't

34:04

imagine the cost of this i mean even

34:06

just looking at this shot right here

34:08

we've got one two

34:10

three four

34:12

five different materials just in this

34:14

piece right here not to mention the

34:16

little accent of of metal or plastics

34:19

that we have elsewhere so really really

34:20

incredible i mean

34:21

so much work and detail into this i do

34:23

not love the light carpeting that they

34:26

have i would recommend getting darker

34:28

weather mats here that would dirty less

34:30

but then you might take away a little

34:32

bit of that

34:33

luxurious feeling

34:34

this is where that ski thing comes

34:35

through which is kind of neat there we

34:37

go

34:38

there's that hatch

34:40

and inside there is also a

34:42

glow-in-the-dark child safety release

34:44

which is quite neat if a child gets

34:46

stuck in the trunk for some reason you

34:48

have the option of turning on the rear

34:50

sunshade

34:52

or stowing it

34:53

which happens automatically if the car

34:55

gets placed into reverse i kind of like

34:57

having it up uh there we go extend rear

35:00

sunshade we'll just go ahead and give

35:01

that a little click here i like that a

35:03

lot and another thing that i like is the

35:05

window here i'm going to close this door

35:07

here and i really like that when the

35:10

window is

35:11

closed

35:13

you can lift up again

35:15

drive up the sun shade

35:17

on the back window so both of the back

35:19

windows have this feature and if i want

35:21

this back down

35:23

i can send that right back down it's

35:24

quite nice

35:26

look at the feel and the luxury of this

35:27

and it feels tight very very stable

35:30

nicely put together beautiful beautiful

35:33

it the car really belongs in museum i

35:35

mean it's like a work of art very very

35:37

nice now this control has a lot less

35:39

functionality than the tesla rear

35:41

control has it's really seat heaters

35:43

temperature control and rear shade

35:45

control

35:46

beyond that

35:48

that it doesn't have anything else it's

35:50

just sun shade and climate that's it

35:52

which is nice but i do like that the

35:54

tesla allows you to control music go on

35:57

youtube or whatever you want in their

35:59

larger rear display panel and another

36:01

thing that's neat is you actually have

36:02

two usb

36:04

c power plugs or adapter plugs right

36:07

here under this and it's built into the

36:09

handle section which is wild because

36:11

usually you would see these plugs on

36:13

more of a stationary aspect of of the

36:15

component so the fact that they put

36:17

these usbc's in the movable lid is

36:19

actually quite impressive i haven't seen

36:21

that before so i like that a lot much

36:22

like the tesla the glass is incredible

36:25

it feels amazing especially as a

36:28

passenger in the back you just feel

36:31

at ease back here beautiful tinting so

36:33

you don't feel like the sun is beating

36:35

down on you even during a sunny day

36:37

you've got the side sun shades and uh

36:40

incredibly comfortable in the back if i

36:42

was always going to be in a lucid i

36:44

would just want to be back here and just

36:46

fall asleep which i have fallen asleep

36:47

in the back of this car before it's

36:49

really nice another thing too is usually

36:52

the latches here would be just your

36:54

regular

36:55

stainless color

36:56

but they actually matte black this i'm

36:58

not sure how long it'll last as the door

37:01

opens and closes over time but it looks

37:03

nice it really takes sort of a potential

37:05

eyesore away of a big stainless notch

37:08

right here now one thing that i will say

37:10

i love and this is where we get to

37:12

reveal what number vehicle this is again

37:14

delivered the third week of january in

37:16

q1 here this vehicle which we're told

37:19

they were delivered approximately

37:21

sequentially in in the number that the

37:23

vehicle is but this lucid dream edition

37:26

right here has its model number right

37:29

here or make number it is make number

37:32

214 so this is the 214th lucid and i

37:36

like this because this is textured too

37:38

it feels really neat and feeling your

37:39

number there

37:41

but really i mean look at this attention

37:42

to detail on even this i mean usually

37:45

people don't pay attention to this part

37:46

of the car right here this is just you

37:48

know where your feet step over like who

37:51

cares about this nobody sees this part

37:53

unless the door is open but look at this

37:55

this is beautiful i mean what incredible

37:58

engineering to have this so gorgeous and

38:01

complete right here

38:02

really this is what makes the lucid

38:05

difference

38:06

uh from a tesla it is all of this extra

38:08

attention to detail that might mean less

38:10

profit for investors but for an end user

38:13

this is incredible so this is the lucid

38:15

air dream edition you know they've taken

38:17

a lot of inspiration from tesla even to

38:19

the design of their keys which they've

38:20

made even sleeker than the tesla ones

38:23

though a little bit less intuitive some

38:25

of the features and not as polished such

38:28

as alexa or even the navigation

38:30

things a little less responsive on the

38:32

software side we saw the auto park not

38:35

yet at prime time we don't yet have that

38:37

cruise control or some of the autopilot

38:39

features though on a hardware side folks

38:41

this vehicle is a work of art it feels

38:45

like it belongs in a museum if

38:46

somebody's looking for attention to

38:47

detail this is where you are spending

38:49

money and getting your money's worth on

38:52

the look the feel the comfort the fit

38:55

and finish the details by the door trims

38:58

the stitching and the car the different

39:01

use of materials to really make you feel

39:03

comfortable and the space in the back

39:07

really incredible vehicle it's fast it's

39:09

got all the power you need there's no

39:11

reason you need to get the extra three

39:13

tenths of a second out of the tesla this

39:16

is a phenomenal vehicle and it carries

39:18

the luxuries that a car of of this

39:20

caliber should which unfortunately i do

39:23

think that the tesla model s has really

39:25

skimped out on on some areas now we know

39:27

from tesla model s was going for speed

39:29

so it doesn't have the door motors on on

39:31

doors to pull the door shut like this

39:33

vehicle does it doesn't have the

39:34

self-presenting doors like the model x

39:36

does

39:37

it doesn't have the motor to open or

39:39

close the front like the lucid here does

39:42

and by far the biggest reason to

39:44

potentially buy a tesla over the lucid

39:47

the self-driving the autopilot is

39:49

phenomenal this video is obviously not a

39:51

video about the tesla autopilot and

39:53

eventually this is expected to have

39:55

autopilot style features but if that's

39:57

not important to you then hey maybe the

39:59

tesla's not the right vehicle if

40:01

autopilot is right now seems like the

40:04

winner is tesla but most importantly if

40:06

somebody is really looking for getting

40:08

the most bang for their buck the highest

40:11

level of quality and they want a head

40:13

turner of a car i think this car is

40:15

absolutely a contender you've got a head

40:18

turning vehicle with quality that does

40:21

not disappoint from the outside to the

40:23

inside thanks for watching if you found
