Mastercraft Rotary Tool Dangers: Safety Risks & Malfunction Review

Hey YouTube, just another very quick video. I was working on the car,

and I was replacing a MAP sensor, the manifold air pressure sensor. I couldn't get to the bolt;

the screw over it was all rusted. There was no way to combat it. So I used this

sort of a Dremel tool to cut a slot so that I could use a regular screwdriver

because it’s a Torx bit and it was completely rusted. It was just a smooth circle basically.

What I wanted to do was a quick review of this type of design for this Dremel-style

tool. It’s not a Dremel, obviously, but it has a switch here. I don’t know what

they were thinking because it’s fine if you’re working on a flat surface or have lots of room,

but if you’re in a tight area, you need to get in position before you turn it on.

There are little vacuum hoses or other obstacles, and as you’re trying to get down,

you just touch it and it moves. It’s not even a switch; it’s a continuous-scale type of control,

and it can actually turn on while you’re positioning it. It did that

once for me, and the problem came in when I had this sitting on the hood of the car.

I had the hood open, and the tool was just sitting next to me. I put it down,

and it rolled over and hit the lip, turning on. My hands were down there trying to get the tool out,

and it turned on right over one of the small hoses for the coolant overflow tank. If I

hadn’t gotten it in time, it could have cut right through it. So I wanted to give a quick review.

It’s not only this brand — there are a lot of them out there. Harbor Freight, for example, has

similar tools with a different name. If you work on cars or in tight spaces, try to get one with a

proper push-button switch, not this kind, because you can do more damage than good. Thanks again.
