why I'm sending the Meta AI Display glasses back to meta.

>> The new Meta Glasses with display
inside. I just ordered and subsequently
cancelled them. In this, I'm going to
break down exactly why, and the reasons
are not what you would expect. First
things first, you might be thinking, I
cancelled my new Meta Glasses order
because, well, I already have Meta
Glasses. But these are the old ones.
They don't have the display on the
inside. They're not as cool. Well,
that's not the reason. We'll talk about
the display in just a moment. You might
be thinking it's because there is now
reporting that Meta is going to use any
kind of Meta AI chatbot interactions to
enable better sales of advertisements to
us. And while that does give me some
privacy concerns around what they're
going to end up doing with the glasses,
and frankly, I can't wait until Apple
comes out with their glasses because if
there's any company I feel like I could
trust, which is basically no company,
but if there's anyone that potentially
comes close to being willing to fight
for our privacy, I think that's Apple,
though even that I have my skepticisms
on. That's it. It is certainly not Meta.
But no, that also isn't the reason I
ordered, went to the Meta display demo
for the new display glasses.
And then 10 minutes later, while I was
on FSD in the Cyber Truck driving home,
I subsequently cancelled the order.
Yeah. The reason Oh, make sure my
microphone's there and we can actually
hear.
There we go.
The reason actually comes down to why I
use the Meta Glasses. See, I just bought
the new release of the Meta Glasses for
sport purposes. You might have seen
those. They're a little larger and a
little rounder, and they're designed to
have so many microphones that you can
actually be skiing or moving at about 30
mph and still hear what you're saying.
That is absolutely insane and
incredible. It makes me really excited.
I can't wait to get those. And so, of
course, I ordered those because we've
got ski season coming up and I can't
wait to go skiing and try them out with
them. But I will say after I ordered
them, I'm like, man, but they've got the
new display glasses coming out. Did I
just waste my money buying the display
ones or or or the, you know, the larger
skiing ones, the sport ones, because
they don't have a display inside of
them? Did I waste my money on the sport
ones if I'm only always going to want to
wear the display ones?
Today, I know the answer to that is no.
I am grateful that I bought the sport
glasses, and I am grateful that I have
the OG version of the Meta glasses. I've
actually got both the Oakley version uh
and the Ray-B bands version. Shout out
to Ray-B bands and Meta, by the way. The
first one uh I took to a lazy river in
Austin, Texas.
Shout out to Kalahari Resorts.
And if you're watching this, the server
who remembered us from a year later,
fist bump, man. Anyway, uh shout out to
them. They actually warranty replace the
ones that I broke, which I was totally
willing to pay for the repair on, but
they're like, "Ah, it's all right."
Like, "All right, we'll clutch. Cool."
So, shout out to the customer service. I
I will give them credit for that. All
that said, why did I not want to
continue with my display order? After
all, I tried them on at the store. I
went into the Best Buy. I was excited
for my appointment. The representative
there said that 90% of the people who
try them on end up buying them.
>> How now, how many people do you think go
from demo to selling, like buying?
>> Most of them.
>> Are you serious?
>> I'll say 90%.
>> That's awesome. Like people just love
it.
>> Oh, that's really exciting.
>> All right. So, I'll put you on the
wristband.
>> I learned how to use the trackpad.
>> You don't really have to touch it, but
it's just
>> um recommended to just so like you know
the feel of it.
>> Oh, that's weird.
>> Which is okay. She said my iMes should
sync up via the Meta app and end up
displaying on screen so I could see
notifications on screen. But there were
a few problems that I ran into that I
didn't really appreciate until I was in
the car ride home. Problem number one,
where the display is is kind of like if
we take this picture right here and
assume this is your peripheral. So the
frame of what I'm filming in the display
is like right
here. And I'm like, man, I kind of wish
it were like here. And so I asked her
like, can I move it from this kind of
annoying spot where it is to here? And
there's no X or Y axis to adjust it. The
only thing you could do is like tilt it.
So I'm like, well, what good does that
do me? So I can't like X or Y move. Now
that'll change with a software update.
I'm confident of it. I'm sure this is
just like, you know, V1 basically. So
that'll change, but that wasn't enough.
I could have gotten past that. That
wasn't enough to get me to cancel the
$999 order. It was actually much more
than that. The whole premise, and maybe
I'm unique in this, okay? The whole
reason I bought the Meta Glasses is so
that I can get away from technology and
feel like I am in the moment. When I go
pick up my children, I don't want
technology in my face, which I know is
ironic because I'm wearing it, but it's
because I want to capture the real
moment. See, I wear prescription
glasses. And even if you didn't wear
prescription glasses, what I love about
the Meta glasses is when I put them on,
I can turn on the video recording and
have full confidence that what is in
front of me is being documented. So when
I pick up that beautiful child
and I play with them or I throw them,
you know, up in the air or I go to a
playground with them or whatever, I
capture their reactions and that moment
without having to think about
technology. See, I actually feel really
satisfied when I do that because I feel
like I'm not having to pull out a phone
and then I see notifications and text
messages,
which is literally what I'm trying not
to see when I'm with my family. The
whole point of the glasses is to capture
those moments with my family, with my
family on vacation doing fun things. I
don't want my Bloomberg notifications or
my text message notifications on a
little screen popping up. Now then I
realize like I could just disable those
notifications within the you know vision
thing. Sure, but I don't even want to
think about having to zoom in on my
videos or zoom in on my pictures and use
this trackpad device to control
settings. I don't care about any of
that. All I want to do is take a picture
like this or hold it down two seconds
and it starts video recording and for
the next three minutes I don't have to
worry. For the next 3 minutes I know all
my experiences are being documented and
I can just escape from technology. So
I'm ironically using technology to
escape from technology. When I have this
screen I actually realize my aura ring
was telling me that like I I seemed
stressed during that moment. And I don't
know if it was excited. I don't know if
we could tell the difference between
stress or excitement or what, but I
realized what was happening was I was
starting to think, okay, like, well,
what notifications am I going to get?
You know, how am I going to respond to
those notifications subject? And then I
realized I don't even really want the
notifications on here because it's not
like I could just quickly click on them
and open up any app that's related to
those notifications.
Instead, I'm stuck with the worst sort
of purgatory where you potentially see a
notification, but then you're kind of
like, "Oh, now I need to go to my my
phone or whatever." That's what I
actually love about the watch. Uh, see,
with the Apple Watch, I personally set
up a lot of different focus modes. So, I
set up a family focus mode and I set up
a streaming focus mode or a not
streaming focus mode so that I get the
notifications I want when I want them
and nothing else.
When I'm putting the meta glasses on,
for me, I don't want to feel like
technology is in my life. I actually
want to just escape from re from that
that technological reality for a moment
and be present with my family yet still
capture the memory. And that's what I
can't get with any other device. If I
take out a DSLR, man, I got to deal with
the settings and carrying it around and
the battery and tripods and all this
crap or microphones or whatever. If I
take out a camera on my phone, so my
phone, I got to deal with all the
notifications I'm going to see or the
notification summary or the temptation
to open it up. I'd rather just have my
phone gone. Put my glasses on,
disconnect, and bringing notifications.
I get it. It's the future. The Apple
glasses are going to have it all. But
you know what? The meta stuff is just
too clunky right now to make it
pleasant. So, I'm not bagging on the
future of glasses. I think the future of
glasses is great, but this sort of V1
iteration for $1,000, way too clunky.
And the lag, the even the lady was
having trouble with latency between her
phone and the demo device. The latency
will create so much additional stress
and frustration for I got the
notification, but I want to I want to
act on the notification, but I can't
because I'm in notification purgatory.
It's just increasing my stress. So, uh,
that said, I cancelled my Meta Glasses
AI display order because I prefer not to
have the display. Maybe that makes me
seem like a boomer. Maybe that's ironic.
Maybe that doesn't make any sense at
all. But to me, it makes all the sense
in the world because when I want
technology, I want it. But when I want
to get away from technology, I want to
get away from technology. And that's my
answer as to why I cancelled the Meta AI
glasses with the display after going to
do the demo, buying them, and then
making a U-turn while on FSD. You have
feedback. I heard you want to add to
this story cuz you listened to my video
while you're marble setting and uh you
wanted to add. Mind you, I want to hear
what you have to say, but then I'll give
you a little bit of an update because um
I want to make sure we're talking about
the right glasses. But go ahead and say
what you said. Um, so a good thing about
the meta glasses is that you um if you
want to like show something while you're
filming it, like you with if you have
your phone, you have to hold your phone
and then like have your your thing that
you're showing in your other hand and
but if you if you have the meta glasses,
you can just hold it with both hands and
just click the button and you're filming
it and you could like like do stuff with
it. It's hands-free filming basically.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. So, the glasses, by the way, that
I was uh talking about,
>> the screen ones.
>> Yeah. So, I just went and did a demo at
Best Buy for them and and I and I tried
them out. They're a little glitchy and
laggy. Uh which is a little frustrating,
but I ended up ordering them and then I
cancelled the order.
>> Mhm. And I feel like the reason I
cancelled the order was not because I
don't like that I could have the inside
display, but it's actually just that
that I don't want the display.
>> Because if we're hanging out like at the
water park, which is not the best place
to take the metal glasses we found.
>> Yeah.
>> Uh or we're building the greenhouse and
we're doing a video of us drilling
stuff. Do we really want text messages
popping up? Mom, Max needs you.
I don't I I don't know. I don't want
that. You
>> I don't know.
>> And you got the watch now, too?
>> Yeah.
>> So, how'd you get the watch?
>> I paid you.
>> I like Wasn't it like the value of like
something?
>> The trade in value?
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. How do you like it?
>> That's good. I like that it has more
space and stuff like that.
>> The The Ultra is great. It's got a whole
lot more room. And you have the Ultra
the ring on the outside on your modular,
right?
>> Yeah. And
>> what do you use it for? Seconds.
>> Yeah.
>> Seconds. and the and the action button.
>> Yeah.
>> I like your wristband. Can you show it
off to everyone?
>> So, it's like it's like confetti and
it's like blue.
>> Was it just an Amazon one?
>> Yeah, it it's it like the ones for um
the ones on like apple.com are like $50
and I got this one for $10.
>> Let's go.
Awesome. You going to help me out at
Lowe's later?
>> Yeah.
>> All right. Sweet.
Why not advertise these things that you
told us here? I feel like nobody else
knows about this.
>> We'll we'll try a little advertising and
see how it goes.
>> Congratulations, man. You have done so
much. People love you. People look up to
you.
>> Kevin Praath there, financial analyst
