Everyone I'm gonna show you a really awesome combo today and it's at one two knockout punch on

0:07

almost any vehicles paint you can use it if you're a beginner all the way up to a pro and I

0:14

have to thank my buddy Markus from MK deep dives who is the one that turned me onto this combo and

0:20

I haven't looked back since and so I'm excited to share our secret with you to show you how to use

0:27

this to polish like a pro

0:30

I'm also gonna talk to you about five tricks that are and tips that will help you get that final

0:37

finish I'm so stick around for that as well

0:42

in this video I'm gonna show you basically all the secrets and set up and then in

0:47

another video I'm gonna show it to you in action but first let's talk about the combo and what it

0:53

is so the combo is Meguiar's 110 ultra pro speed compound

1:00

And Meguiar's 210 ultra pro finishing polish and either orange or blue Lake country HDO foam

1:09

pads for your DA polisher

1:11

now

1:12

I label my bottles as to which pad they go to so you can see I can look at this and I put a pinch

1:20

and I know this is my compound going on blue and this is my polish going on orange so I'm gonna

1:26

show you know how we can mix and match and get a result 95% of the time

1:32

yeah it's a great combo and again you don't have to be a pro to use this combo you can actually

1:37

thanks to Marcus you can actually get 210 and 110 at Harbor freight

1:44

so in this video I'm not gonna talk to you about extreme examples and also realize that what works

1:49

for me

1:51

do you know is just one

1:53

trick you don't have to only use this I'm not saying that's the only method I'm just saying that

1:59

Great results whether you're a beginner or pro by using this combo so

2:04

don't let me lose you here just because you know you're set on a different brand try other

2:10

stuff out occasionally and see if it works

2:13

so fortunately I had Markus tell me about this combo that's not what I was using before but I

2:18

love it now part so I'm gonna tell you now where we go with these pads

2:26

I by and large we're going to use the blue pads for our cutting in the orange pads for our

2:32

polishing I know what you're thinking you're thinking well orange pad is a medium cut

2:37

you're right we're going to use it as a polishing pad and I'm gonna show you how

2:42

so

2:44

we got the blue HDO foam it's about as heavy as I can get the HDO is different from the hex pads

2:50

because

2:52

the blue foam is fairy - is softer but it has a real stiff

2:57

backing or

2:59

Intermediary between the backing velcro strip and the and the blue pad so it allows you to both

3:08

do you know cut as well as finish out now if you've seen our work before you know we'd love

3:14

megs 110 because sometimes it finishes out just like a polish if you do it right so a

3:20

beginner can do it a pro can do it I'm a show you how

3:25

and then 210 so megs 210 replaced megs 205 205 has a slightly higher cut megs rated as a

3:34

for this they rate 210 as a three so keep that in mind but the 210 will finish off a little bit

3:41

better so

3:43

we have 210 in here and we're going to get an extra cut and we're gonna be able to break

3:49

down the abrasives a little bit better by using it on an orange HDO medium putting pad as opposed

3:56

to what you would consider

3:59

Traditional one which might be the black pad we're gonna polish on Orange now I tell you that you

4:05

know those are those are not the only options all right I mix and match these all the time so you

4:12

could potentially run what have you got a one step for example

4:17

you have two options that you can try you can try

4:21

the 210 on a blue

4:23

or depending upon the paint and I literally just did this to almost perfection the other day on a

4:30

black metallic BMW

4:32

you can go

4:34

110 on an orange and they can both potentially work for you you just gotta try it

4:40

that day I tried the 210 on blue and it just didn't quite cut enough this cut just a little

4:47

bit better and gave me a perfect one step result and I want to step that vehicle term probably 95

4:53

% so I love that combo as well and you can mix and match those with other things

4:59

But that's how that's our traditional probably

5:03

the two 1 step options as well as you know the one two knock out blue and blue and orange on 210 so

5:13

next I'm gonna show you how we achieve that result

5:18

using what many might consider a non- traditional method

5:23

you know with the medium cutting pad

5:27

I got to say I change the set up here so you could see a little bit better

5:31

one of the things I told you the beginning was gonna show you five tips and tricks that

5:36

and help you get that final finish it's also one of the things that's going to allow this combo to

5:41

work in general it's a great habit to practice and yeah but it is going to work here and so

5:47

here's here's number one number one is

5:51

when you when you use the pad you're using a small amount of product

5:57

so wwe don't want super large

6:02

dots we want

6:04

in a pea dot so I put like three

6:07

or typically three maybe four on a larger pad and

6:12

notice where I put the dots I put them on the outside or towards the outside why do you want to

6:17

do this because the dual action polisher

6:20

will rotate stuff towards the center of the pad if you load up the center of the pad your three

6:26

inch comes to 1 inch and so forth and so on so load up the outside of the pad with with the

6:31

right amount of product which is not a lot OK so that's tip number one and it's also the first

6:37

step in getting

6:39

our combo to work properly

6:42

tip number two we pretty much already talked about I just didn't mention it as a tip and that

6:48

is experiment with the combos that we

6:52

thought we mentioned before and realize that what works for one paint from one manufacturer or even

7:00

the same manufacturer but a different model may not work for the next depending upon all kind of

7:05

factors OK so do you know once you've mastered this you can't just say I'm always going to use 110

7:11

on a blue it may not work out we're trying to get to the mirror we're nearly mirror finish we

7:17

don't do perfect of anything in this world despite what YouTube

7:21

creators will tell you if you don't you're perfect

7:25

at all not always anyways and so we're gonna

7:29

we're gonna experiment a little bit and you may realize that you need to change something up so

7:34

gotta be flexible you can't be set in stone what your combos and all that stuff I showed you the

7:40

product placement I showed you that now I'm gonna talk about pressure now traditionally what we

7:46

want to do is we want to give

7:48

you know just enough pressure to hold the machine in place or you know maybe just a wee bit see I'm

7:54

where you're not even compressing the pad much but you can Keep the machine where you

7:59

want the machine to stay

8:02

in this case though because we want the abrasives to break down we're gonna we're gonna

8:07

give it a little bit more pressure on the initial application and then once we get past that first

8:13

pass we're going to reduce pressure and kind of lift it up and see how I compress the pad and

8:18

then lift it up that's going to help break those abrasives down if you don't do that step what's

8:23

going to end up happening is the abrasives don't finish out or they don't break down right away

8:28

and when you finish your step you're going to notice you have a bunch of micro scratches you put on yeah

8:34

because you got

8:35

the abrasives are still intact all right so that's the next tip

8:41

OK the next tip and it's also important for this is the movement speed in which we move on the

8:48

panel itself now

8:50

this is actually pretty hard to master and the best way to master your speed of your arms

8:58

Is to get a junkyard hood

9:01

and

9:03

you know hold the pad and the machine in place and see how long it takes on this you know junk

9:10

to burn through the paint and you'll see it is very very difficult with the foam pad and a

9:17

compound to to burn through paint not saying it's impossible I'm not telling you to sit out

9:23

there on an edge we don't want to sit on edges for very long because it generates more heat this

9:27

is the correction on the edge I'm not saying any of that I am just saying that first you have to

9:33

build confidence then you have to know what the limit is and then you can go back and realize

9:39

that you're working

9:41

either too fast or too slow and

9:43

what I mean by that is you'll see a lot of people they tend to rush over the panel

9:49

and I have found that that is way too fast in most cases and

9:55

it doesn't get the results you need So when I do correction

10:00

I am I have to force myself because I'm a bit of a rusher myself so I have to force myself and

10:06

I'm going super slow and sometimes like really slow to the point of I feel like a turtle

10:14

and that's how slow I go

10:16

as I'm cross hatching and I'm not gonna go over all polishing compound, polishing

10:22

compounding tricks you know I just wanna mainly highlight this and focus on that other stuff

10:27

that is the

10:29

the next tip or that is the fourth tip out of five

10:33

and so it's gonna be pressure

10:35

and

10:36

I would use just enough speed

10:40

and this relates to pressure

10:42

you want enough speed that if you push down like we talked about it doesn't stall the machine so

10:49

you might need to turn the speed up and then when you reduce pressure also reduce the machine I

10:55

typically run on a setting three this is a flex PXE 80

11:00

and I don't want to talk about every machine can be different so you got a color

11:04

again combo and you have to

11:07

practice and you know research and see what works best for you and that's why the junkyard hood

11:14

comes into play so

11:16

so that's the fourth step

11:18

now I'm just gonna briefly polish this hood

11:25

all right and that you know so I did some polishing I'm just a bit to illustrate a point

11:30

here but

11:31

I am not showing technically I will get that in a different video when I want to talk about is the

11:36

fifth and final tip I gave you all the keys here I just haven't showed you exactly what we're

11:41

going to do in order to do that in the next video but I showed you everything else so the last tip

11:46

the last tip is you have to clean your pads so I am super anal about cleaning my pads

11:53

every time I lift the machine off the panel Stop the machine to reload product or wipe down or

12:01

whatever the case

12:02

am I am cleaning

12:05

I'm cleaning the pad now you can use a brush this is a claw tool from Rupes

12:10

or what we also have is we have a reel system all throughout our shop with

12:17

knock off Tornadors

12:20

do you know are on the end

12:23

and we blow out our pads

12:27

after every panel and then we also will blow the panel itself out

12:32

and then one and then we're going to wipe

12:35

and this is part of the cleaning tips

12:37

we use a solvent

12:40

a panel prep spray versus alcohol that's going to help lubricate the surface

12:45

as you wipe it off you're just gonna mist it a little bit of it and

12:50

you know wipe off and then back off with a different towel behind it for optimal effects or

12:55

at least flip it over

12:56

otherwise

12:58

OK so now you can see my face again but I want to mention another reason we do use the SB3 ready

13:04

solvent prep is because not only do we want to lubricate the service as we're wiping it off so

13:10

we don't scratch the surface that we just polished but it also removes any remaining oils or

13:18

anything that's left over on the paint which will

13:21

make it optimally prepped for ceramic coating in our case or whatever you use in a preferably

13:27

ceramic coating but

13:29

that's gonna prep that so I showed you all the tricks I showed you five tips and tricks and I

13:35

showed you

13:37

the pads that we use I showed you the compounds and the polishes that we use to get these awesome

13:43

results in the links are always in the description

13:46

and you know heck you can get some of it at Harbor freight like I mentioned at the beginning

13:52

so again not just pros not just beginners

13:57

This is great for everybody at once you get the hang of the pressure and the speed and breaking

14:03

down the abrasives correctly and you do a little experimentation in practice

14:08

this can be a pro to beginner you can blow your clients away you can make your own vehicle you

14:15

know gorgeous again

14:17

this is a great

14:19

you can keep this from the beginning all the way

14:23

first start out you learn this and you can take it in all the way in to do a pro coatings and pro

14:28

polishing like we do so I hope you enjoy this video hope it was informative for you

14:34

and we'll see you for the next one
