The country that has been a net security provider for NATO for decades.

As the commercial value of arctic increases, efforts to gain control over it will also intensify.

Only five countries have exclusive control over the Arctic due to active global treaties.

Meaning, four countries are NATO members and one is Russia.

Greenland is a junction point between the North Atlantic and the Arctic.

From where the movement on entire ocean can be monitored

The Greenland-Iceland-UK Gap (GIUK Gap) is considered a critical naval choke point.

This choke point connects the Arctic to the Atlantic

And it is very essential for tracking submarine movements.

To monitor Russian submarines and maintain NATO defensive positions

This gap is considered crucial.

But Greenland's story is not limited to strategic location, shipping lanes and naval security.

Another reason why the island finds itself in the middle of a global tug of war is its natural resources.

There is now definitive evidence of oil and gas reserves, gold, and rare earth minerals beneath Greenland.

As the ice melts, it will become easier to extract these resources commercially.
