still to come he says he can solve our

0:03

state's homeless crisis and he's

0:05

challenging Governor Newsom in the

0:07

recall election Kevin pathrath is here

0:10

our first in-studio guest in a very long

0:13

time at seven o'clock his plan for

0:15

California when we come back

0:19

a reminder that the recall election in

0:22

California is September 14th although

0:25

this is the last week where candidates

0:27

can declare for the race

0:33

amazing thank you very much he is a 29

0:37

year old Democrat challenging Governor

0:40

Newsom in the recall election meet Kevin

0:43

pathra he's a Southern California real

0:45

estate investor who is followed by

0:47

millions on YouTube other social media

0:48

platforms as well he's just completed

0:51

nine rallies in 10 days across the state

0:54

including that one and now the campaign

0:56

brings him here to our studio our first

0:59

in-studio guest in a long time Kevin

1:01

pathrath welcome nice to have you here

1:03

Alex thank you so much for having me I'm

1:04

so excited to be here I'm so excited for

1:06

common sense Solutions I know you

1:08

mentioned that I'm a Democrat that is

1:10

true but I bring Common Sense back to

1:11

California I'm tired of identity

1:13

politics I have to solve it I feel like

1:15

I should be waiting for a zoom delay but

1:16

I don't have to do that anymore so I

1:18

don't know all right so for a lot of

1:20

folks that know you in social media

1:22

you're a big star though there's a lot

1:24

of folks that are watching this that

1:25

probably have not heard of you before so

1:26

tell us a little bit about your back

1:28

story you came here 19 years old old

1:31

absolutely so I came to California met

1:34

my wife in Paris moved to California and

1:36

California gave me some incredible

1:38

opportunities unfortunately I feel like

1:40

I was the exception I went to a

1:42

community college then went to UCLA

1:44

graduated with a background in economics

1:46

and political science became a real

1:48

estate broker and educated folks on how

1:50

to invest in real estate unfortunately I

1:52

again feel like the exception we got to

1:54

make better education than norm and you

1:56

became this big deal on YouTube teaching

1:58

people about real estate teaching people

2:00

about finance and other things

2:02

cryptocurrency other things as well

2:04

currently and you are a Democrat running

2:07

against Governor Newsom most of the high

2:09

profile Democrats are not why do you

2:11

consider yourself a Democrat and why if

2:15

you consider yourself a Democrat are you

2:16

running against the Democratic standard

2:18

Bearer absolutely so first of all I'm

2:19

running against Gavin Newsom because I

2:21

believe that it's his leadership and his

2:23

policies that have broken the state it's

2:25

not the party it's not the people it's

2:27

not Republicans we have Californian

2:28

issues in the State traffic crime

2:30

homelessness lawlessness consider just

2:33

this Gavin Newsom said he was going to

2:35

prevent forest fires he overstated his

2:36

efforts by 690 percent NPR exposed him

2:39

on that we have 80 percent of cannabis

2:41

sales in the state five years after

2:43

cannabis is legalized 80 percent is done

2:46

illegally we are going 12 billion

2:48

dollars into more debt we don't have a

2:50

surplus in California we're going into

2:52

more debt sb7 is a great way to funnel

2:54

more money through Governor newsom's

2:56

office not making housing more efficient

2:58

that's what's broken we do have a

3:00

surplus in this state and that's why

3:01

they're giving all this money back right

3:02

that's my point is after he's giving

3:04

money away for giving traffic tickets

3:06

we're going 12 billion dollars more to

3:07

debt so we don't have the Surplus to

3:09

solve the real problems that we have

3:10

like our Water Crisis which we could

3:12

have solved with that Surplus we could

3:13

have used that money built an aqueduct

3:15

to Mississippi gotten fresh clean water

3:18

cheaper than we have it now and we could

3:20

have ended our Water Crisis so our farms

3:22

in the San Joaquin Valley where I just

3:23

was wouldn't be brown and drying out

3:25

anymore and part of the challenge though

3:27

is by legislature by Statute they do

3:29

have to give some of the money back when

3:30

you get a surplus that's big enough but

3:32

let's talk about homelessness which is

3:34

your number one issue the number one

3:35

issue for so many people on the states

3:37

your Governor tomorrow what's different

3:39

on homelessness day one I'm signing four

3:42

executive actions number one is ending

3:45

homelessness on our streets within 60

3:47

days we're not going to cure

3:49

homelessness in 60 days but nobody will

3:51

be living on our streets anymore because

3:53

they're not living on our streets

3:54

they're dying on our streets after 60

3:56

days no more homeless on our streets how

3:58

do we solve that with 80 emergency

4:00

facilities throughout the state of

4:01

California each housing about 2 000

4:03

homeless individuals now we can

4:05

centralize support mental health support

4:07

detox supports substance abuse support

4:10

we can finally provide food and Safety

4:12

and Security something Californians

4:14

don't have right now and that's why

4:15

people are leaving the state we've got

4:17

to stop Californians from leaving the

4:19

state I want to grow this economy but

4:21

how do you do that so say a homeless

4:23

person and they're trying to remove them

4:25

from the streets in Venice right now and

4:27

we talk to many of them today and they

4:28

said I don't want to go absolutely what

4:30

do you do in that scenario yeah so

4:32

here's the thing nobody trusts the

4:33

government right now because the

4:34

government has fragmented policy

4:35

responses we're going to take our first

4:37

30 days provide service to homeless

4:40

individuals where they are knowing that

4:41

Community leaders control homelessness

4:43

when we build our emergency facilities

4:45

with homeless leaders mayors of blocks

4:48

and presidents of streets then we can

4:50

convince 90 to 95 percent of our

4:52

homeless population We Believe to come

4:54

to emergency facilities these are not

4:56

lockdown facilities they're optional

4:57

they want to take a bagel and leave

4:59

that's fine but guess what after 60 days

5:01

of my governorship nobody Sleeps on the

5:04

floor or streets of California anymore

5:05

that ends in 60 days but you don't think

5:08

that their Community leaders working on

5:10

that problem now

5:11

there are but here's what's happening

5:13

you've got people in La handing out cell

5:15

phones to homeless folks you've got

5:16

people in San Francisco the city of San

5:18

Francisco is spending five thousand

5:19

dollars per tent per homeless person

5:21

that's 60 Grand a year we have

5:23

fragmented responses there's a reason

5:24

the mayor of LA and the sheriff of valet

5:26

tweet storm each other because they

5:28

can't even figure it out you need a real

5:29

leader and it's the same thing with our

5:31

schools we're ranked 40th it's the same

5:33

thing with our housing we need a leader

5:34

to solve our problems well let's talk

5:36

about schools and education and you want

5:38

to think about colleges in a different

5:40

way oh yeah well so I want to think

5:42

about really high school and college in

5:44

a different way I want to combine 70

5:46

overtime we'll start smaller but I want

5:48

Folks at 18 to be able to graduate debt

5:51

free with a financial education imagine

5:53

that a financial education knowing how

5:54

to build wealth and a career by 18. we

5:57

do that by combining vocational schools

5:59

colleges and high schools at least a

6:01

certain percentage of them throughout

6:02

California then what about the people

6:04

over 18 in poverty who can barely get by

6:06

on minimum wage we are going to offer

6:08

two thousand dollars per month for folks

6:10

to go to these future schools these

6:13

future schools will help us reduce

6:14

poverty and then effectively reduce

6:15

crime we're spending more money on

6:17

people in jails than if we just educated

6:19

and invested in our Californians we

6:22

wouldn't have as much crime or poverty

6:23

people are hopeless on our streets we

6:25

have to fix that so how if if you become

6:27

governor you're 29 years old you've

6:29

never served in the legislature before

6:31

you've never been a part of the

6:32

political system you'd have less than a

6:34

year to be the governor assuming uh that

6:37

that goes through how do you make all

6:39

this happen and how what do you say to

6:41

people that might be skeptical that

6:43

you've got the skills to pull this off

6:44

in terms of that very complicated

6:47

bureaucracy in Sacramento yeah so the

6:49

first thing that we have to realize is

6:50

yes there's only a one-year term ahead

6:52

that's wonderful all politicians should

6:54

have a one-year trial now the first

6:56

thing that we're going to do when we

6:57

solve homelessness or get homeless off

6:59

our streets within 60 days and we start

7:00

solving the crises that we have now

7:02

we're going to take that leverage and

7:04

show every politician who's up for

7:06

reelection in 2022 we can work together

7:08

we can actually solve real Californian

7:10

problems there not Democratic problems

7:12

they're not Republican problems they're

7:13

Californian problems what's my

7:14

background my background is 3 000 hours

7:16

on the road in law enforcement real

7:18

estate investor Financial educator think

7:19

about the problems that we have I have a

7:21

political science background as well the

7:22

problems we have are crime and

7:23

homelessness I dealt with I dealt with

7:25

this on the streets with law enforcement

7:27

and I deal with Building Wealth through

7:28

real estate I understand how to solve

7:30

our crises in the state oh and speaking

7:32

of real estate that's your background

7:33

housing we've got a housing crisis in

7:36

this state as well we see the price

7:38

skyrocketing which is really great for

7:40

rich people that are trying to sell

7:41

their homes but it's tough for other

7:43

people that want to get into the housing

7:44

market how do we fix housing in this

7:46

state yeah absolutely so the first thing

7:47

is we're building 80 000 homes a year

7:49

right now just to stay par we need to be

7:51

building 300 000 homes a year in the

7:54

state of California we've got plenty of

7:55

places that can be redeveloped abandoned

7:57

malls strip malls whatever my plan is to

8:00

build 500 a thousand homes per year

8:02

where we have 482 cities it's actually

8:04

not that much we're a big state but

8:05

we've got to get the government as much

8:07

as possible out of our lives so we can

8:09

streamline processes with 400 82

8:11

building and safety departments we need

8:13

one set of rules not 482 different rules

8:15

and we need to speed up building and

8:17

safety yeah through executive action day

8:20

one we need to have a slightly higher

8:22

standard that incorporates the benefits

8:23

of green energy and better

8:24

sustainability but having one standard

8:26

that's the same throughout the state

8:28

then we Empower our Architects and

8:30

Engineers whom we're licensing anyway

8:32

and we work together with the community

8:34

to solver problems and real quickly to

8:36

wrap up I mean having fun what's this

8:37

like for you as a 29 year old traveling

8:39

the state meeting people seeing the

8:41

reaction well look I I'm doing this

8:43

because I'm passionate about solving our

8:45

problems in California it's a lot of

8:46

work It's a Grind I love it though I

8:48

love it because I want to give back I

8:50

see in my opinion I've already succeeded

8:52

financially I'm not unlike other

8:53

politicians getting into government to

8:56

try to make money I could retire right

8:57

now what I want is to give back and to

9:00

serve well we all have now met Kevin

9:02

Kevin pathra thank you so much for

9:04

coming in and thank you for coming in

9:05

person too thank you so much anytime

9:07

when we come back the extreme heat seven

9:09

day forecast after this

9:12

thank you
