Gospel 101: Part 9 - The Future Prospect - Glorification
FULL TRANSCRIPT
hi there once again this is Phil Carlson
with a quick message for your personal
professional and spiritual growth and
this is epic this is video n of a
nine-part series and we have been
talking about the gospel 101 going
through four different categories of how
I like to speak about the gospel so we
talked about the premise God and
creation we talked about the problem
which is sin what happened with the fall
and what is going on when it comes to to
the effects of the fall and sin in
humanity we've talked about God's
prescription which is reconciliation
with him his prescription which is also
justification regeneration adoption and
sanctification all that comes through
faith in what Jesus did on the cross his
death his burial and his
resurrection so now here we are in our
last video God's ultimate future
Prospect for those who are in Jesus
really it's his promise and that is
glorification so with
glorification this is where we actually
begin to live in such a
way that the perfect glory of God is
actually being reflected by us what do I
mean by that I'm talking about either
after we've died or if Jesus comes back
in our
lifetimes what we will look like then
because the Bible promise promises that
when Jesus returns everyone who has
faith in him who truly trusts in him
who's truly been made new in him we're
going to get new physical bodies let's
look at 1 John 3: 2 it says
beloved we are children of God this is
what we just talked about regarding
adoption right and it has not appeared
as yet what we will
be oh this is talking about when there's
a resurrection when Jesus returns we
know that when he appears yeah that's
Jesus's return we will be like him okay
well in sanctification aren't we
becoming like him in regeneration aren't
we already like him on the inside
because we will see him just as he is
and everyone who has this hope fixed on
him purifies himself just as he is pure
we talked about that in the last video
regarding sanctification we are going to
look like him I think this isn't just
talking about a figurative idea I think
there's something literal here and I
don't mean we're all going to physically
in our faces look exactly like Jesus I
think we're going to have something some
sort of spiritual reality that's totally
new about ourselves this is kind of
stunning well let's dig deeper on this
there's there's got to be more to this
let's look at Romans 8: 29 to30 we've
looked there before in multiple videos
wouldn't hurt to look again For Those
whom he fornew he also predestined to
become conformed to the image of his
son okay we've already talked about that
in terms of regeneration we talked about
that in terms of
sanctification maybe this is also
talking
about eternity this is talking about
glorification so that he would be the
firstborn among many Brethren and Those
whom he predestined he also called and
these whom he called he also Justified
and these whom he justified he also
glorified this is ultimately what it's
about is the glory of God witnessed
through a human person now it says
glorified in the past tense and it does
glorify God when a person comes to trust
in
Jesus but it seems that that Glory
reaches its fullest possible
manifestation when our physical bodies
are gone the scriptures actually tell us
and and they're not just gone they're
replaced with new bodies and the
scriptures tell us that sin is embedded
in our flesh Paul says this in Romans
chapter 7 for in me that is in my flesh
there is no good thing he says so if sin
is embedded in our flesh and we're given
new bodies then that means whatever the
battle is between us in terms of our our
spirit the spirit that's in the image of
Jesus that is the spirit of Christ
himself inside of us that battle between
that and our flesh which is going on in
our mind will and emotions continually
pushing Us in towards Temptation and yet
the spirit of Christ is in US battling
against that Temptation battling against
giving into it that Wars over when we're
given new bodies because there's no more
sin in our bodies we're able to no
longer experience that kind of
Temptation again not from within whoa if
you like me have found yourself at times
exhausted tired feeling weak and weary
in battling against sin this is a
fantastic hope we have a future to look
forward to where the battle against sin
on the inside is
over now of course in connection with
this is an eternity with God we can look
in the Book of Revelation where it
describes what it's like to be in the
New
Jerusalem where God himself is the light
we don't even need a son anymore because
God is the one producing the light we
see Jesus Us in the flesh before our
very eyes that will be
amazing and at the same time beholding
the Lord in
person we will be without a veil anymore
no barrier between ourselves and the
glory of God not not sin not the fleshly
eyes that we see with now not the bad
ideas that we all are filled with
no we are going to get to behold God in
his full glory and behold him in awe and
wonder for eternity and I can't help but
to wonder if it's going to be like those
24 Elders who are around the throne in
the Book of Revelation they cast down
their crowns before God they can't help
but to worship
Him you see they're even living
creatures that are terrifying in heaven
right now and they are singing before
God and they're crying out holy holy
holy and as we talked about before it
may actually be that they're just
screaming out holy because God is so
unlike anything
else God is glorious and wonderful and
we who have trusted in Jesus get to
spend eternity with
him now knowing that keeping our eyes on
Jesus who has also endured persecution
who is also in in endured death and
being misunderstood and rejected by the
very people who should have known and
loved
him this Jesus we set our Hope on him
and realize he endured all of this for
the joy that was set before him there is
a joy coming that awaits
us and it's not because we do good works
it's not because we memorize scripture
it's not because we go to all the Sunday
morning church services it's not because
we go to a Wednesday night prayer
service or have certificates or degrees
it's not because we're poor and it's not
because we're wealthy it's not because
of businesses we've started and it's not
because of businesses we forsook for the
name of
Jesus we get to be with him in eternity
because of what Jesus already
accomplished on the cross we get to be
with him because God set it up so that
by Faith by trusting in Him we get to be
with him because we are now credited
with the justice and righteousness of
Jesus he took the punishment that we
deserved and so that punishment was
fully fulfilled the need for
it we have been made new in His image on
the inside we've been adopted into the
family of God we are being conformed
right now into His Image through
suffering and through blessing in our
character in our minds and our wills and
our emotions
we are part of this new
family heading towards
glorification so the answer is not to
give up or
despair but to grow in Hope and
encourage each other not to give up
let's keep going because there is a joy
set before us there is a hope that we're
holding on to and this is where it's so
important to remember what it talks
about as we discussed at the end of the
last video in 1 Corinthians 3: 10 15
there are Eternal rewards waiting to be
handed
out now the thing we need to ask
ourselves if we're ready for this and
here's what I mean by that am I living
in such a way that it's about what's the
bare minimum I can do to be right with
God what's the bare minimum I can do to
be considered a good Christian what do
what do other people think of the way I
live as a Christian if I'm focused on
these things and these are the primary
focus of my
life that doesn't speak well to whether
or not I truly am his no the the
question is not what's the bare minimum
the question is if I truly trust Jesus
is who he says he is he did what the
Bible says he did that God is who the
Bible says he is and he truly has all
authority on heaven and on Earth for all
eternity and he is ultimately the one
who is coming Jesus is coming to judge
the living and the dead
knowing
this my question needs to be God what am
I still holding on to that belongs to
you God what is the maximal way I can
surrender my life to you I'm not saying
this is an easy question but it's one
that if we are in a community of other
believers if we're in deep relationship
with other believers asking the same
question then we can help each other by
the grace of God to be more and more in
Conformity to
Jesus and wow how glorious that day will
be not just when we stand before Jesus
but when that testing of the works of
Our Lives talked about in 1 Corinthians
chapter 3
comes and we actually have things that
survive the fire of
testing that actually become part of our
Eternal reward before the Lord what does
that mean what does that look like it is
far too
wonderful I think on this side of
Eternity to ever truly appreciate or
understand
but let's live our lives now as a people
who believe we are sons of the Living
God by faith having a hope in
him and there is a difference between a
hope versus actually having the thing in
itself we aren't living in a certainty
of Eternity we are living in a hope of
that eternity and this helps us stay in
the fear of the Lord to remember the day
of judgment is coming the day of testing
is already
here am I going to pass the test will
God say of me well done my good and
faithful
servant I want to live that way now so
that I'm prepared for that day that's
coming later please join me in that if
