Philosophy is better than self-help
FULL TRANSCRIPT
when I tell people that I studied
philosophy they often tend to imagine it
as people in cardigans debating the most
ridiculous things and to be fair there
was quite a lot of that philosophy can
be quite esoteric that in itself is not
a bad thing a lot of people enjoy doing
philosophy in the same way they might
enjoy doing a soduku but philosophy is
not always like this the biggest way in
which philosophy infuses our everyday is
through self-help a lot of modern
self-help books have diluted philosophy
and they've made it accessible and
applicable to Modern Life Bor I would
argue is if you go back to those
original philosophical texts you'll
actually find a depth that you lack in a
lot of modern self-held books if I had
to choose three philosophy books which
act as self-help I would first choose
Aristotle's nikom mckian ethics because
the entire book is to discuss what is a
good and happy life Michelle deon's
essays he discusses life with such
honesty and such intellectual Vigor and
the da de Jing by Lau because in the
mysticism we can find truth within
ourselves
