0:00

hey everyone meet kevin here let's talk

0:01

about the craziness about the latest

0:03

infrastructure packages the debt ceiling

0:05

where we stand and most importantly

0:07

what's going to happen going forward so

0:09

quickly the senate passed the short-term

0:12

extension of the debt limit on thursday

0:13

by a vote of 50 to 48 pretty party-line

0:16

vote this was done without budget

0:18

reconciliation because mitch mcconnell

0:19

and 10 other while 10 republicans total

0:22

allowed the filibuster to end they were

0:25

able to invoke a cloture paving the way

0:27

for democrats to pass the debt limit

0:29

bill uh through this uh through this

0:31

resolution that republicans came up with

0:34

with along with democrats as long as the

0:36

debt limit would just be extended

0:37

through december so now this bill is

0:40

getting sent over to the house of

0:41

representatives where obviously we

0:43

expect it to get slam dunked there was

0:45

some last-minute drama as the bill got

0:47

passed in the senate chuck schumer went

0:49

to the floor and uh pretty much slammed

0:52

republicans for provoking this whole

0:54

crisis apparently chuck schumer wanted

0:56

everybody to know how democrats had this

0:58

massive victory and they've prevailed

1:01

over republicans when

1:03

let's be real it was mitch mcconnell

1:05

who's kind of like all right like hey

1:07

we'll let you kick the can down the road

1:09

mitch mcconnell kind of had a lot of

1:10

power here

1:11

now some people say well but mitch

1:13

mcconnell didn't want democrats to vote

1:14

to end the filibuster and maybe that's

1:16

why he allowed democrats to move forward

1:18

with this debt ceiling uh you know

1:20

raising the debt limit i don't know i

1:22

don't think so joe biden has clearly

1:25

said he doesn't want the filibuster to

1:26

end and if democrats got rid of the

1:28

filibuster then that means if

1:29

republicans had power next time around

1:31

republicans would uh not have a

1:33

filibuster to deal with right so like

1:35

you could be all in power now if you

1:37

wanted to be but you'd get screwed in

1:39

the future in other words so joe biden

1:41

and most of the leading temps don't want

1:43

to do this uh as popular as it is to say

1:46

get rid of the filibuster but anyway uh

1:48

chuck schumer really wanted to make it

1:50

clear that this was a huge democratic

1:52

victory and after that you had a lot of

1:54

folks like joe manchin john thune mike

1:56

rounds mitt romney all right on chuck

1:59

schumer for for this speech mansion

2:02

going as far as potentially although he

2:04

did later deny this calling the speech

2:06

and he actually said it effing stupid to

2:08

some reporters just so you could see

2:11

what this speech was like here's just a

2:12

quick sample of it and what's really

2:14

neat about this shot is this is chuck

2:16

schumer this is joe manchin and here's

2:19

mitch mcconnell right here now you

2:21

barely get some shots here but just

2:23

watch joe manchin's reactions over the

2:25

next uh 20 seconds here as

2:28

chuck schumer is just going off on

2:30

republicans suggesting that they finally

2:33

cave to what the democrats needed and

2:36

and it's thanks to the democrats this

2:38

got done anyway just watched leader

2:40

mcconnell and senate republicans

2:42

insisted they wanted a solution to the

2:44

debt ceiling

2:46

but said democrats must raise it alone

2:48

by going through a drawn out convoluted

2:51

and risky reconciliation process

2:54

that was simply unacceptable to my

2:56

caucus and yesterday senate republicans

3:00

finally realized that their obstruction

3:02

was not going to work i thank very much

3:05

thank

3:06

my democratic colleagues

3:08

showing our unity in solving this

3:10

republican manufactured crisis

3:13

despite immense opposition from leader

3:15

mcconnell and members of his conference

3:17

our caucus held together

3:19

and we've pulled our country back

3:22

from the cliff's edge that republicans

3:24

tried to push us over

3:26

this by the way goes on so much so i'm

3:29

just gonna go fast forward here 15

3:30

seconds because watch your mansion just

3:32

get up

3:33

the republican leader claimed was the

3:35

only way to address the debt limit

3:38

let me say that again

3:40

he's like i've had it i can't take this

3:42

crap anymore

3:44

but uh anyway look this debt ceiling

3:46

thing it's now

3:48

essentially done it's still got to pass

3:49

the house but it's essentially done this

3:51

keeps the debt ceiling extended through

3:53

december of this year and this means

3:55

that schumer's going to have to work

3:56

with republicans again to um

3:58

to to raise the debt ceiling in the

4:00

limit but here are uh some timetables

4:02

that we have right now which are pretty

4:03

important october 31st is when nancy

4:06

pelosi has set a date to vote on the

4:08

passing of the one trillion dollar

4:10

infrastructure plan it's that one to 1.2

4:13

hard infrastructure plan chuck schumer

4:15

says he wants to raise the build or or

4:18

pass rather they build back better plan

4:20

by then that now no longer expected to

4:23

be three and a half trillion dollars

4:24

probably closer to one and a half to two

4:26

and a half trillion dollars leading a

4:28

lot of folks to wonder okay where

4:30

are the cuts going to come from uh even

4:33

the progressives the house progressive

4:36

chairwoman has made it very clear that

4:38

hey she's open to negotiating a smaller

4:40

number i think she realizes this is

4:42

going to become a take it or leave it

4:44

kind of deal

4:45

now the question is how do we figure out

4:47

where

4:48

to cut that from the three and a half

4:50

trillion dollar outline that we've had

4:52

a lot of folks are suggesting that

4:54

they'll just shorten the time frame for

4:56

certain benefits for example instead of

4:58

doing a four to five year child tax uh

5:00

child care tax credit maybe we'll just

5:02

do a two-year child a care tax credit

5:04

we'll see

5:05

now december 3rd is the date when our

5:08

government budget runs out again so it's

5:10

another date to keep an eye on this is

5:12

obviously separate from the debt ceiling

5:13

but we do have we've got a couple dates

5:15

therefore in december but for right now

5:17

we've bought ourselves a little bit of

5:19

time for negotiations with these

5:20

infrastructure packages and the debt

5:23

ceiling which is very good

5:24

representative ro khanna also had a

5:26

private private conversation with joe

5:28

biden about the buildback better plan

5:30

and the bipartisan infrastructure deal

5:32

as well as the debt limit rakana

5:33

suggested getting sanders and mansion in

5:35

a room together to figure out a

5:37

compromise between joe manchin and

5:39

senator sanders bernie sanders now

5:42

remember ro khanna is a progressive

5:44

himself in fact last year he authored

5:47

the emergency money for the people's act

5:48

which would have given individuals 2 000

5:50

of stimulus per month not six hundred

5:52

dollars not fourteen hundred dollars not

5:54

twelve hundred dollars but it's two

5:55

thousand dollars per month so rokano is

5:58

obviously a progressive uh but he's

6:01

making the suggestion that well hey if

6:02

we get fellow progressive sanders and

6:05

moderate mansion in a room together

6:07

maybe a compromise between them two

6:09

could appease every democrat or as many

6:12

as possible in the house and the senate

6:14

now uh in response to this suggestion

6:17

joe biden said that getting these two

6:19

together in a room would be like

6:22

homicide

6:24

uh and and i can kind of see that as

6:26

being possible because i think bernie

6:28

sanders is extremely upset at somebody

6:31

like joe manchin for holding up the

6:34

progressive or left agenda

6:37

to which uh we've seen many tweets from

6:40

bernie sanders suggesting that is unfair

6:42

that two people should be able to hold

6:44

up the will of 48 but remember it's

6:47

always worth noting there are also

6:48

republicans who would join joe manchin

6:50

so it's really more like 58 versus 52.

6:53

uh sanders of course responded to this

6:55

idea as well and said it's not a movie i

6:58

don't know if you are a movie writer

7:00

this is not a movie it's just really

7:02

kind of like okay so it looks like

7:04

everybody's kind of seeing a drama on on

7:06

both sides here sanders also reiterated

7:08

his policy agenda and of course as usual

7:11

made his case for leaving certain

7:13

elements in like the medicare's coverage

7:15

of hearing dental and vision programs

7:18

bernie sanders also said that there's a

7:20

direct link between congress members who

7:22

don't want to support lowering

7:24

prescription costs and those who accept

7:26

money from pharmaceutical companies this

7:28

is a slam at people like kirsten cinema

7:30

uh who have uh who have received money

7:33

at least from what we can tell have

7:34

received money from lobbyists from the

7:36

pharmaceutical industry and uh bernie

7:39

sanders is aptly pointing out that maybe

7:41

there's a connection here in terms of

7:43

why uh why there are issues and of

7:44

course we we know that there is always a

7:46

lobbyism at play but i think it's just

7:48

very worth noting that at this point we

7:51

we have the debt ceiling uh limit and

7:53

budget both kick down the road through

7:55

december beyond these being kicked down

7:57

the road through december

7:59

we also have uh the infrastructure plans

8:02

now kicked down the road to the middle

8:05

of october that's what we're looking at

8:07

right now is the middle of october

8:09

democratic leaders have said that

8:12

now more than ever thanks to the missing

8:15

of our jobs numbers this morning

8:17

now more than ever is time to spend the

8:19

multi-trillion dollar infrastructure or

8:21

spend multi spend multiple trillions of

8:23

dollars on infrastructure especially the

8:27

soft infrastructure package the social

8:28

infrastructure package uh for example

8:31

you have biden saying that

8:33

the unemployment rate going down to 4.8

8:35

percent is a significant improvement

8:37

from when he took office

8:39

especially joe biden touted decreases in

8:42

hispanic and black unemployment rates

8:44

but we still have obviously a lot of

8:46

work to do but either way over the next

8:48

few weeks especially leading up to

8:50

halloween so about three weeks to go we

8:52

should see a lot of negotiating on this

8:54

actual infrastructure package where is

8:56

that number going to land are there

8:57

going to be inflation concerns regarding

8:59

this i expect a lot of progress after

9:01

the inflation statistics come out next

9:03

wednesday that's when we'll get our cpi

9:05

consumer price index inflation report

9:07

for september

9:09

maybe that if it comes in lower than

9:11

expected will help appease joe manchin

9:13

that maybe indeed inflation is a bit

9:15

temporary if inflation numbers come in

9:17

higher than expected that could

9:19

definitely make it a lot harder for

9:20

somebody like joe manchin to be okay

9:21

with a larger package and instead he

9:23

might prefer to settle for a smaller

9:25

package anyway uh that gives you a

9:27

little bit of an update in terms of

9:29

timing uh of what we've got we've got a

9:31

little bit of a piece here for a few

9:32

weeks although i expect negotiations and

9:35

bickering between people like manchin

9:36

and sanders to continue and we'll keep a

9:38

close eye on develop developments as

9:41

they come in but in the meantime there

9:42

is our stimulus and infrastructure

9:44

update thank you so very much for

9:45

watching and folks we'll see in the next

9:46

one thanks again bye
