0:00

Apple just shocked the tech world by not

0:02

giving us just a few math books, but

0:04

throwing everything at us, even a

0:08

surprise that I don't think they meant

0:10

to do. So, we're going to be focusing on

0:12

the new M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBooks and

0:16

all of the changes and some marketing. I

0:19

don't know if I should say gimmicks, but

0:21

along with that, I'm going to talk about

0:22

some of the other products that were

0:24

launched today briefly. And it just

0:25

blows my mind what Apple just did. Now,

0:28

I'm going to start out with the M5

0:30

MacBook Air because this is a quick one

0:33

and I'm actually very happy about this

0:35

one. The design is the same as you guys

0:38

could see. The main thing is it is

0:40

getting the M5 chip and unfortunately

0:43

VM was wrong. We are getting some price

0:46

increases, but not in the way that a lot

0:48

of people expected. And as far as

0:50

performance, they are still comparing to

0:52

the M1, but of course with the M4, the

0:55

previous model. Their main advertising

0:58

point is the LLM prompt processing. Uh

1:01

the AI with the M5 chip, we've saw that

1:03

before, have a massive improvement. And

1:06

those dedicated cores make a big

1:08

difference as long as your software can

1:12

utilize it, which of course in their

1:14

calculations here u they are showing off

1:17

what makes the biggest difference. Now,

1:19

if we glance at the detailed comparisons

1:21

here, there's one thing that really

1:23

stands out, and that is the fact that

1:25

the M5 is labeled having four super

1:29

cores and six efficiency cores. Yes, you

1:33

heard that right, super cores. And

1:34

looking at the previous M4, it has four

1:36

performance cores with six efficiency

1:39

cores. Now, I'll talk about that in just

1:41

a sec. But what makes me really happy is

1:44

the fact that we now have a base storage

1:47

of 512 gigabytes. Yes, finally we had 16

1:52

gigs with the M4 as a base. That was

1:54

amazing. Now the storage is also

1:57

increased. Uh so 16 gig 512 is the base,

2:00

but unfortunately the price tag has also

2:02

increased uh to $1,100.

2:06

So a h 100red bucks more. And honestly,

2:09

I'm so happy about this because that

2:11

means anybody that goes into a store and

2:13

buys a MacBook Air is going to get an

2:15

excellent machine instead of one that

2:18

could be li limiting them very shortly.

2:21

And now let's talk about the MacBook

2:24

Pros. And this is where things get

2:26

really exciting and maybe a little bit

2:29

disappointing as well. Now, if you're

2:31

going to be buying a new MacBook, make

2:33

sure you get a nice and protective case

2:35

like the Defender A13 laptop sleeve from

2:37

our sponsor TomTalk, which features

2:40

their corner armor design and high

2:42

resilience edges to protect it from

2:44

dings and scuffs with a super soft

2:47

microfiber lining and zip-up design to

2:49

keep your laptop safe and sound, as well

2:52

as a pocket for your charger and

2:54

accessories. It's water resistant, fits

2:57

in a backpack, and comes in a variety of

2:59

colors. So, get yours today with the

3:02

link below. Now, the first thing I

3:03

didn't expect with the M5 MacBook Pros

3:05

is that Apple's discontinuing the one

3:08

that just launched in October.

3:11

Yes, that is right. Uh, they don't want

3:14

to sell one that has 512 GB of storage

3:17

anymore. So, if you want one of those,

3:19

go to Amazon right now. It's 150 bucks

3:23

off until it's no longer there. Now, the

3:26

cheapest one costs $1,700

3:30

and it comes with one terabyte. Uh, no,

3:34

Apple's not raising the price for the

3:36

same configuration, but they are forcing

3:38

you to spend more money. You get more

3:41

storage, but you do have to pay for it.

3:43

Apple made some dramatic claims with

3:46

their short promo video. uh something

3:49

that sounds kind of crazy and if you

3:50

look into the fine print the eight times

3:53

faster AI performance is compared to the

3:55

M1. So Apple is even agreeing a lot of

3:58

people still have an M1. Now just like

4:00

the M5 chips they have a neural

4:04

accelerator built into each GPU core.

4:07

And with these chips, especially the

4:08

Maxes, there are a ton of cores. On the

4:11

M5 Pro, we're going from a base of 12

4:14

core CPU up to a 15. And from 16 GPU

4:17

cores, that is staying the same. But

4:20

then if we take a look at the upgraded

4:22

ones, well, you could have a 14 core.

4:26

Now it's an 18 core CPU. And here we're

4:30

going back to the super cores, right?

4:32

Before we had 10 performance cores for

4:34

efficiency. Now we have six super cores

4:37

and 12 performance cores. Now, the

4:41

interesting thing is with these cores, a

4:44

lot of it is kind of marketing. The new

4:46

super core is literally the performance

4:49

core that launched in the M5, just

4:52

renamed. That's it. It's the same

4:55

performance core. Now, the performance

4:57

cores that are labeled here, 12 of them,

5:00

those are brand new cores. They're not

5:03

as powerful as the performance cores

5:04

that launched with the M5, but they have

5:07

been improved to have better performance

5:10

than the efficiency cores, but also be

5:12

pretty efficient. So, we no longer have

5:14

specific efficiency cores like you do

5:17

with the base M5 chip, but on the Pro

5:19

chip, you have better versions of those

5:22

pretty much. So, it makes it sound a lot

5:24

better, but it also makes sense because

5:26

now that they have three different kind

5:27

of cores, they need to be able to

5:30

differentiate between them. So, let me

5:32

know your thoughts on that down below.

5:34

Now, as I mentioned, we still have 20

5:36

GPU cores, but you actually get up to

5:40

four times higher peak performance in

5:44

the GPU if you can make use of those new

5:47

neural accelerators that are built into

5:49

each core. You guys can see the massive

5:51

difference over here. Compared to the

5:53

M1, the bump wasn't that big. 1.8x. Now,

5:57

look at this jump right here. Now let's

6:00

just quickly go through. You see massive

6:02

increases here. Uh 3D rendering that one

6:05

is close to double over here. A lot of

6:09

AI based stuff. So I hope that uh you

6:12

use that if you need this. Now as far as

6:14

gaming performance here, it's not as

6:17

big, but it is still impressive. And as

6:20

we go on, coding even smaller of a

6:23

difference. And with this new setup,

6:25

overall the CPU is seeing boosts above

6:28

about 30% in terms of multi-core

6:31

performance. I mean, that is really,

6:34

really impressive. And in terms of the

6:36

graphics, 35% if you're using ray

6:40

tracing. And that is both for the M4

6:43

compared to the M4 Pro and for the Max.

6:46

The memory bandwidth has a nice

6:48

improvement here as well. And with their

6:51

latest N1 chip, we have updated

6:53

connectivity for all these new MacBook.

6:56

And lastly, the SSD storage is up to

7:00

twice as fast. So, even though they're

7:03

forcing you to buy more of it, that is

7:05

nice to have that improvement as well.

7:07

So, let me know what you think about the

7:09

M5 Pro. And now, let's focus on the Max.

7:12

You can now get an 18 core CPU with a 40

7:16

core GPU. Uh, previously we had two less

7:19

cores um, just like the with the M5 Pro.

7:23

And of course, we no longer have the old

7:25

efficiency cores. We have the new

7:27

performance cores, which is a blend, and

7:29

six super cores, which came out with the

7:32

standard M5. U, now GPU cores are the

7:36

same, but now we have those accelerators

7:38

built into it and up to 614 GB of memory

7:43

bandwidth. That is awesome. Now, of

7:46

course, a high-end GPU uh on a desktop

7:50

PC can have faster memory bandwidth, but

7:52

that's locked in the small amount. Here,

7:54

you can get up to 128 gigs of RAM.

7:58

That's going to cost you $1,000 extra to

8:01

upgrade to that. And of course, it's all

8:03

unified. So, all of it is that speed,

8:06

which can actually really help people

8:09

that are running different models and

8:11

certain tasks. Now, some people wanted

8:13

more RAM. Apple did not give it to us.

8:15

It's still that same amount. And once

8:17

again, Apple's really focusing on their

8:20

AI and LLM performance here. Um, that is

8:24

their biggest thing. So, image

8:26

generation. Look at that difference

8:28

compared to the M4 Max. Uh, massive

8:31

chart. LMS as well. I mean, massive

8:34

improvements. Now, how many of you guys

8:36

do things like that? I want to know your

8:38

opinions. We did get down to 3D

8:40

rendering. Not as big as a improvement

8:42

right there. um D vinci resolve for

8:45

render performance. Of course, that's

8:47

going to be using tasks that really can

8:48

use those accelerators. And then code

8:51

compiling, look at that. Very, very

8:53

small difference there. And then gaming,

8:56

a little bit more of a difference, but

8:58

that's with ray tracing enabled. And I

9:00

don't know how many people use that. So,

9:02

with the M5 Max overall, you get about a

9:04

15% improvement in CPU performance,

9:07

about a 20% improvement in overall

9:10

graphics, and up to 30 if you're going

9:13

to be using uh ray tracing there. Uh not

9:16

as impressive as an upgrade as you get

9:19

with the M5 Pro. Um that one had a

9:24

bigger boost in just raw CPU

9:26

performance. Um other than that, the

9:28

machines are pretty much the same. What

9:31

are your guys' thoughts? We don't have

9:33

any physical differences. We're waiting

9:35

for tandem OLED models and redesigns.

9:38

Uh, but there we have it. Apple dropped

9:40

all of that. Now, along with that, we

9:43

had this drop and Apple accidentally

9:47

leaked the MacBook Neo and then after

9:51

some articles are put out, it got taken

9:53

down. I don't know if this is an

9:55

accident, honestly. Um, I think it's

9:57

just to build up the hype for tomorrow

10:00

for their budget laptop that we have

10:02

been talking about. And lastly, Apple

10:04

dropped the Studio Display XDR. I'll

10:07

cover this very briefly. We've been

10:09

waiting for this thing for a while. Uh,

10:11

positives are the price tag is a lot

10:13

lower than the Pro Display XDR, 3,300

10:16

bucks. It comes with the stand already,

10:19

and the specs are pretty dang good. It's

10:22

a 5K display, no longer 6K, 2,000 nits

10:25

of peak brightness. You have a lot of

10:26

zones, 120 hertz. That is awesome. It's

10:30

using Thunderbolt 5, but we do not have

10:33

a 32 in display anymore. Apple

10:35

discontinued that. That was the one that

10:37

was five grand, another,000 for the

10:40

stand. Um, and so if you like a 32-in

10:43

size, well, you're out of luck. Um, now

10:47

they also upgraded the studio display.

10:49

Pretty much put in Thunderbolt 5 in

10:50

there. It's the same display panel, very

10:52

old tech, still expensive at $1,600.

10:56

Uh, but if you want the latest

10:58

connectivity, that is there. Um, so

11:01

honestly, I wish they gave us a 32-in

11:03

option. Maybe it's just too expensive.

11:05

Somebody mentioned that if you want to

11:07

use two displays, it would not work with

11:09

6K at 120 Hz, even with Thunderbolt 5.

11:12

Uh, but it's going to be a lot more

11:14

accessible, and I think it will sell

11:16

better than the previous one. So, you

11:18

guys let me know your thoughts with this

11:20

new launch. Of course, we're going to be

11:21

making a lot more videos, some more more

11:24

in-depth tests, some real world

11:25

comparisons. Make sure you guys are

11:27

subscribed. Check out one of those

11:28

videos right over there. This has been

11:29

Knox, and I'll see you in the next one.
