0:04

So um good afternoon po we're from St.

0:06

Joseph's school uh for interviewing for

0:09

organization and management class. So um

0:12

first question po is what type of

0:15

business are you in and then how many

0:18

employees do you currently have?

0:21

>> Okay, we are in the distributorship

0:24

business. No. So this is our company

0:27

name.

0:29

Company name Mesco

0:31

and these are the products that we

0:34

distribute. No. Then we have around 350

0:39

employees.

0:41

>> So um what advantages

0:44

uh do you have over other similar

0:47

businesses?

0:49

Um

0:51

first no in the distributorship industry

0:54

in vehicle region

0:56

um the main advantage we have is the our

1:00

fulfillment capability.

1:03

So we are the only distributor that has

1:08

warehouses and office all over the six

1:12

provinces of vell and that capability

1:16

gives us um we are able to deliver all

1:22

our the customer's order within 24

1:26

hours. So that's the first advantage and

1:28

second we have the widest reach

1:33

um widest reach meaning

1:37

widest coverage of all the accounts in

1:40

the Baker region. So we cover not just

1:43

supermarket, grocery sari store, market

1:46

store but also hotels, restaurants,

1:50

hospitals, cantens and so we have the

1:53

widest coverage uh selling FMCG products

1:58

in the ve region.

2:02

>> So uh next question, what positive

2:04

attributes are associated with your

2:06

company? Okay,

2:09

Sig guru, best is you take a picture of

2:12

our company vision, company mission, and

2:16

our company core values. Okay, thank

2:19

you.

2:21

Yeah, that's easier.

2:27

>> More on the this page.

2:28

>> Okay, more on this page now. Okay.

2:32

>> See the the positive attributes you can

2:35

see here now. Our ex excellence,

2:39

leadership and our winning culture,

2:41

integrity and honesty, teamwork and

2:44

mutual respect, loyalty and love for

2:47

work and our frugality. So these are you

2:50

just expound on this.

2:54

>> Um so next question, what are you most

2:56

proud of? Uh, what are are your

2:58

employees and or co-workers most proud

3:00

of?

3:01

>> Okay, Siguro,

3:04

the most

3:06

what are we most proud of? Being the

3:10

distributor of the year for Alaska

3:12

because in our

3:15

uh industry being chosen as the

3:17

distributor of the year. So, we are the

3:19

best distributor in the country. So we

3:22

were able to achieve it in Alaska being

3:25

the distributor of the year of Alaska

3:27

for three straight years. So no other

3:31

distributor

3:32

uh of Alaska in the industry has

3:35

achieved that feat. No, that winning it

3:38

three times and uh in a row par three

3:42

repeat. Yes.

3:46

>> In what areas do you think your business

3:48

or company needs to improve? What

3:49

specific feedback have you heard from

3:51

customers that indicates points for

3:53

improvement?

3:54

>> Okay, so

3:58

uh our service level during peak uh peak

4:02

months especially during Christmas

4:05

season no? So we have uh um

4:10

we have encountered delays in our

4:12

delivery due to the massive uh orders.

4:16

we were not able to deliver some orders

4:19

on time. So that's one that we need to

4:23

improve. Then second uh during this peak

4:29

uh months also we encountered out of

4:31

stock of some products. So we have to

4:35

work on this uh uh problems

4:40

feedback from our customers so that we

4:42

this will not happen again next year.

4:47

So what past setbacks as answer setbacks

4:51

your company has experienced.

4:53

So um

4:55

>> or uh is this related to question number

4:58

four or

5:00

>> uh yes actually answer.

5:03

>> Okay. Okay.

5:03

>> Um number six. What skill gaps exist

5:06

among your employees if any?

5:09

>> Okay. Number one is uh the use of

5:12

technology. So we have some

5:16

sales people that are already

5:19

20 plus years in the company and uh uh

5:23

needs to adapt to the use of technology.

5:27

No. So so uh we have to that's the the

5:33

we have to train them so that they could

5:35

adapt using the using apps using reports

5:39

using Canva. Uh so we have to upskill

5:44

them and also

5:47

our the driving skills of our

5:52

drivers because currently in the

5:53

industry there's a shortage of drivers

5:56

because of the onset of um Lassada

6:00

Shopee many drivers are in demand. So

6:04

they opted to work with Lassada and

6:07

Shopee for they have they can control

6:10

their time. So um there's a shortage of

6:14

drivers. So we have to teach our current

6:18

helpers in order to to learn driving

6:23

>> and also

6:26

uh there's also shortage of uh

6:28

mechanics. No. So we have to

6:32

uh teach our mechanics to be better.

6:39

M so next question n man uh what's

6:41

holding you back from accomplishing the

6:43

things you and or you want and or need

6:45

to accomplish?

6:46

>> So number one is lack of talent because

6:50

we're planning to expand to other

6:53

provinces but uh there's a shortage of

6:57

talent. So we have to train more people

7:01

so that uh before we could expand

7:05

into other territories.

7:09

>> Um next uh are there any emerging

7:12

technologies or market trends that you

7:13

can use to your advantage?

7:16

>> So there are a lot though because the

7:19

use of there are already a lot of apps.

7:22

So we are

7:24

uh

7:26

having we are developing an app so that

7:28

we could give to our customers that they

7:31

can already order from that app 24/7.

7:35

And next uh take market trend the use of

7:39

data. So data now is the the gold mine

7:43

in the business world. So the data you

7:46

gather we should make use of this data

7:50

uh and use it in our operation and in

7:53

business. And the third one is AI. So

7:58

we're already exploring AI to help in

8:01

our operation to streamline to make our

8:05

uh work faster using AI.

8:09

So uh is there any is there a plan of

8:12

expanding your product or service

8:13

offerings?

8:16

>> Yes, there are

8:18

plans uh expanding into adding more

8:22

principles, more products to the

8:24

portfolio of the company and also

8:27

expanding to uh

8:30

other areas and use

8:33

uh use apps in in in this expansion.

8:38

H are there talents from the present

8:40

employees that may be used as an

8:42

advantage?

8:44

>> Talents meaning

8:47

uh talents meaning

8:49

>> skill sets employees that can be used to

8:53

their advantage.

8:55

>> Okay. The skill set we have developed in

8:58

the organization is we we we

9:02

develop them to be resilient resilient

9:05

individuals, team players and uh

9:11

uh

9:12

uh these two attributes

9:16

may be the one of the

9:20

uh advantage that we could uh use. so

9:24

that uh

9:27

to

9:30

use in our business and uh compete with

9:33

the competitors. Yeah.

9:36

So how do you cope when natural

9:38

disasters or calamity strikes?

9:40

>> Okay. We must we we should be always

9:44

proactive.

9:46

Being proactive meaning and a lot of

9:50

planning. So proactive if there's a

9:53

typhoon coming so we must uh already

9:58

prepare our warehouse our trucks so that

10:01

it will not be damaged. So and planning

10:04

because how can we plan that minimal

10:09

damage will affect our operation and

10:13

also plan that after the calamity we

10:16

could immediately resume to our normal

10:20

operation. So I think being proactive

10:22

and planning is the best uh solution in

10:26

countering this natural calamities.

10:29

>> So right now are there any market trends

10:31

or emerging technologies that you think

10:32

could pose a threat to your business

10:34

right now?

10:35

>> Yes, there is. So number one trend is

10:38

the proliferation of the mini marts.

10:42

O save

10:44

alpha mart these are uh mini mart

10:47

concept that uh invested in the country

10:51

and they are eating up uh our

10:54

traditional saris store. So this poses a

10:58

great threat because saris sari store

11:01

buys from us but these two channel this

11:05

uh the mini doesn't buy from distributor

11:08

so that's a threat that is a loss for

11:10

business for us. So we are watching them

11:12

carefully and another

11:16

uh threat is Lassada and Shopee. So B2C

11:22

some customer already ordering from

11:24

Lassada and Shopee. So these threats

11:28

that's why we are putting up our own app

11:31

so that uh we could compete with Lassada

11:34

and Shopee.

11:36

So are there uh currently changes in

11:39

regulations or policies such as

11:41

memoranda from low DPI BIR uh that could

11:45

affect your business?

11:46

>> There is one from LTO. So, LTO

11:51

uh reduce the

11:54

the

11:56

uh

11:58

reduce the what do you call that

12:03

in in the driver's license before

12:08

you can drive a vehicle 4,500

12:12

uh G GVW

12:16

and up. uh

12:19

when they reduced the

12:22

uh restriction in the driver's license

12:25

from 45 to 35.

12:28

So before that affected 40% of our

12:32

drivers because during

12:36

uh when it was 45 all our drivers can

12:40

drive these vehicles. No. So when they

12:42

reduce it to 35 40% of driver cannot

12:46

drive what they used to drive.

12:49

>> So okay so that's the big problem with

12:53

the LTO ruling.

12:55

So right now could rising costs of

12:58

commodities negatively impact your

12:59

business operations?

13:01

>> Definitely the rising cost

13:06

that would translate to price increases

13:08

and inflation that would help our

13:11

consumers because higher price they

13:14

could buy lesser products and this will

13:17

affect the sales.

13:20

So last question as a business owner,

13:23

what advice can you give to future

13:25

entrepreneurs?

13:27

>> Okay, so

13:30

always I I always preach the kaisen, the

13:35

Japanese word kaisen, which is

13:37

continuous improvement.

13:39

You should always challenge yourself. Do

13:42

not uh challenge that status quo. Always

13:46

evaluate yourself. You should always

13:48

improve because if you don't some some

13:53

other people will overtake you. You

13:55

should always evaluate yourself, improve

13:58

on yourself, look at your competitors,

14:02

uh check what they are doing. You should

14:04

be always be better than them. And if

14:07

you see your competitors, you should

14:10

look internally what are your strength,

14:13

weaknesses and uh work on this so that

14:16

you will always be uh on top of

14:20

competition and second you should always

14:23

adapt and evolve because if you don't

14:27

uh somebody else will will take over

14:30

you. So that's the advice I could give

14:34

uh aspiring and future uh entrepreneurs.

14:38

>> Uh thank you very much for your time. Uh

14:41

it was very insightful to hear. So,
