1:07

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

1:10

Allah decreed for Moses, peace be upon him, to live with the Children of Israel for these long years

1:18

Allah decreed that they would wander in the land for forty years

1:23

as a punishment for them because they objected to Moses and did not enter the Holy Land

1:29

In these years, Moses was teaching people

1:33

He was advising them, reminding them and preaching to them

1:39

One day, many people gathered around him

1:43

He was providing them eloquent advices

1:47

From its eloquence, the eyes overflowed with tears, the hearts softened, and the bodies humbled

1:55

here was a sense of tranquility, and the people began to weep.

1:59

When Moses finished, a man from the Children of Israel stood up from among the people to interrupt and ruin this sermon.

2:08

He called him in front of people

2:14

He said: Who is the most knowledgeable of people?

2:17

What kind of question is this?

2:18

However, Moses was patient with the Children of Israel

2:22

Who is the most knowledgeable of people?

2:24

Moses peace be upon him said: It's me!

2:28

Moses was thinking that the man is referring to the people gathered or to the Children of Israel

2:34

Who is the most knowledgeable of people? Of course it's Moses, peace be upon him

2:37

However, Allah blamed Moses for this answer because he did not attribute knowledge to Allah

2:45

If Moses said "Allah knows best" then, Allah would not have blamed him

2:50

Allah revealed to Moses, peace be upon him

2:53

O Moses, I have a slave that I did teach him some knowledge that I didn't teach it to you

2:59

He is more knowledgeable than you o Moses

3:03

Moses, peace be upon him, was saddened

3:07

How can there be slave of Allah who has more knowledge than him despite that he spoke to Allah directly

3:16

In addition, he was a prophet sent by God and he is from the determined messengers

3:22

Moses was honourable in the sight of Allah

3:24

So he said, "O Lord, guide me to him."

3:28

I want to follow him to acquire from him that knoweldge

3:33

Moses wants to follow an unknown man to learn from him the knowledge that he does not possess

3:44

Look at the love of Moses towards knowledge

3:47

Allah revealed to Moses, peace be upon him, to go towards the place where the two seas meet

3:58

and take with you a fish

4:01

The fish is called "Hout" in Arabic

4:04

Some Arabs till today name the fish "Hout"

4:09

Take a fish and place it in a basket from leather or from palm fronds or anything

4:20

Take with you this dead fish

4:24

When you lose this fish, then you can know that he is there

4:30

He will be in the place where you will lose this fish

4:34

Moses called his dearest student

4:40

Moses used to cherish him

4:43

His name was Joshua Ibn Nun

4:46

He accompanied him from Egypt till this moment

4:49

He was one of the men who advised the Children of Israel to enter the Holy Land

4:56

He was courageous

4:57

He called him and asked him to bring with him a fish and place it in a basket

5:02

Indeed, Moses took a fish and traveled with his young assistant

5:10

And ˹remember˺ when Moses said to his young assistant,

5:15

“I will never give up until I reach the junction of the two seas, even if I travel for ages.”

5:27

I'm ready to travel even for ages

5:31

Joshua, I'm ready to keep going even I need to walk for years and I will never stop

5:38

I only want one thing from you

5:40

What is it Prophet of Allah?

5:43

If the fish is lost, you have to inform me

5:47

He told him that this is an easy task

5:51

Both of them kept walking until they reached the coast of the place where two seas meet

5:59

They go everyday to a place

6:00

One day, they reached a rock where they slept near to it

6:07

They say, and Allah knows best, that there was a spring in this rock called the Spring of Life

6:16

It is said that the water which flow from it, bringing life to certain plants and creatures

6:26

Then the water reached the dead fish inside the basket - It started to move

6:38

While they were sleeping, the fish was moving until it left the basket

6:45

Life returned to the fish

6:48

It moved until it reached the water

6:52

Here, Joshua woke up

6:55

When Joshua woke up, he was alarmed

6:58

The fish was moving and left the basket by itself and reached the water

7:03

Joshua was looking at it

7:05

When it reached the water, it started to move in the water

7:16

Joshua was looking at the view

7:18

It became like a path within the water

7:22

But when they ˹finally˺ reached the point where the seas met, they forgot their ˹salted˺ fish,

7:35

and it made its way into the sea, slipping away ˹wondrously˺.

7:40

Joshua was alarmed when he saw this view

7:45

The fish disappeared inside the sea

7:47

He wanted to wake Moses up to inform him that the fish is gone

7:52

But he decided to let him continue sleeping

7:55

He waited and waited and fell asleep again

7:59

Joshua slept

8:01

Moses was also sleeping and fish disappeared

8:04

After some time, Joshua and Moses woke up

8:09

Joshua forgot to inform Moses, peace be upon him, that the fish is gone

8:15

They kept walking for hours

8:17

When they had passed further, he said to his assistant,

8:23

Moses asked Joshua to prepare the food after walking a long distance

8:30

When Joshua was preparing lunch he recalled that the fish is gone

8:36

It was Allah's decree!

8:38

He went back to Moses telling him that the fish is gone and disappeared inside the sea wondrously

8:51

He replied, “Do you remember when we rested by the rock? ˹That is when˺ I forgot the fish.

9:00

None made me forget to mention this except Satan. And the fish made its way into the sea miraculously.”

9:10

The fish is gone? Yes!

9:16

Moses, peace be upon him, said that this is the place promised by God

9:21

This is the place that we aimed to go

9:25

Let's go back to that place!

9:47

Moses, peace be upon him, and his assistant Joshua returned to that place quickly

9:53

Moses was excited to meet the slave of Allah who obtained knowledge from God

9:59

When they reached the place where they rested...

10:04

It was strange!

10:06

The place was not green but now it became so!

10:10

Vegetation appeared in it, as the land had been barren, and now there was greenery and crops.

10:16

Where did this come from?

10:18

And there was a man lying on it

10:21

That was the promised servant

10:24

It's Al-Khidr

10:27

It was said that he was called Al-Khidr because the places in which he rests become green

10:34

Due to his honor with Allah, the Almighty

10:37

When Moses, peace be upon him, reached him, he immediately said, "Peace be upon you."

10:49

The man stood up and said to him, "From where does the peace come?"

10:56

Al-Khidhr asked Moses: Who are you?

11:01

He said: I'm Moses, the son of Imran

11:04

He said: Moses from the Children of Israel?

11:07

Yes!

11:08

What brought you here?

11:11

I came to learn from you

11:14

O Moses, the Torah wasn't enough for you?

11:18

Isn't the revelation from Allah sufficient for you?

11:22

What brought you in o Moses?

11:24

Al Khidhr kept speaking: I possess knowledge that Allah has taught me, which you do not know

11:33

And you have knowledge that Allah has taught you, which I do not know

11:39

There they found a servant of Ours, to whom We had granted mercy from Us and enlightened with knowledge of Our Own.

12:00

Allah taught him knowledge that was exclusive to him

12:03

Scholars differ on whether he was a righteous man or a prophet

12:08

It is possible that he was a prophet sent to another people.

12:14

Moses said to him that he wanted to follow him

12:19

But why?

12:21

He said: Provided that you teach me some of the right guidance you have been taught

12:25

This is despite that Moses is better than Al-Khidr with many grades

12:30

However, he wants to follow him to learn from you

12:32

Notice the humbleness of Moses, peace be upon him

12:35

Notice the humbleness of the Prophets and their morals

12:37

Moses spoke with Allah directly but still he wants to follow this man who is lower than him

12:43

This is because he wants to acquire his knowledge

12:45

Al-Khidr said: You certainly cannot be patient ˹enough˺ with me

12:51

And how can you be patient with what is beyond your ˹realm of˺ knowledge?”

12:56

Moses assured ˹him˺, “You will find me patient, Allah willing, and I will not disobey any of your orders.”

13:03

I will be a good student and I will obey you well

13:08

I will not disobey any of your orders

13:10

He set one condition

13:11

What is it?

13:13

If you accompany me to learn, do not question anything I do, nor ask me about anything until I inform you.

13:24

Do not ask me why

13:26

Do not question me until I clarify it to you!

13:33

He gave him the promise

13:36

He, then, asked his assistant, Joshua, to return

13:42

The two set out until they reached the shore of the sea, intending to cross it

13:49

A ship docked, and he asked the crew to allow them to board with them

13:56

They said, "The righteous servant of Allah wants to ride with us? Come, you and your companion"

14:02

They did not know Moses but only recognized al-Khidr.

14:05

The two boarded with them, and they did not charge them any fare

14:10

They said that having a righteous man ride with them was an honor from Allah

14:14

We won't take anything from you

14:16

The ship docked and sailed on the sea, with al-Khidr and Moses on board

14:22

Suddenly, a bird came and drank some of the seawater in front of Moses and al-Khidr

14:28

Al Khidr asked Moses: Did you see this bird?

14:32

Yes, he said

14:33

All of my knowledge and yours, compared to Allah's knowledge, is like what this bird has taken from that sea

14:49

I have only been given but little knowledge

14:54

After a few days at sea, suddenly al-Khidr took an axe and began to damage the ship

15:08

Moses, peace be upon him, shouts at him: What are you doing?

15:12

Al-Khidr ignores him and kept breaking the ship

15:17

So they set out, but after they had boarded a ship, the man made a hole in it.

15:24

Moses protested, “Have you done this to drown its people?

15:29

You boarded this ship for free, and now you want to sink it?

15:34

You have certainly done a terrible thing!”

15:37

Al-Khird looked at him and responded

15:40

“Did I not say that you cannot have patience with me?”

15:43

I already told you that you will be seeing things that you won't be patient with

15:47

Moses pleaded, “Excuse me for forgetting, and do not be hard on me.”

15:54

Indeed, Moses, peace be upon him, forgot

15:58

He damaged the ship, and the people came to repair it, but they said nothing to the righteous servant

16:04

They disembarked them at the other shore, and the two went on

16:09

ntil they reached a people where children were playing

16:15

Moses, peace be upon him, was looking at the scene

16:18

He was looking at the children

16:22

He was observing the children

16:26

The children were far away from the people

16:29

He was observing one of the boys

16:33

When al-Khidr approached one of the children, he grabbed him, choked him, and then killed him

16:41

Here, Moses did not forget the promise that he made to Al-Khidr but he objected

16:47

Al-Khidr killed a soul

16:50

Moses protested, “Have you killed an innocent soul, who killed no one?

16:58

A young boy? How did you dare to kill him?

17:04

“Have you killed an innocent soul, who killed no one? You have certainly done a horrible thing.”

17:13

This is much more terrible than what you have done to the ship!

17:16

He answered, “Did I not tell you that you cannot have patience with me?”

17:23

Moses did not say that he forgot but he couldn't bear looking at the scene

17:26

Moses replied, “If I ever question you about anything after this, then do not keep me in your company, for by then I would have given you enough of an excuse.”

17:33

So they moved on until they came to the people of a town.

17:40

It was a stingy town. The refused to give them hospitality.

17:49

They reached this town

17:51

Each time they knock a door, they were denied hospitality and generosity

17:55

They wanted to leave the two

17:58

As they were leaving, al-Khidr saw an old wall in one of the houses that was about to collapse

18:05

Al-Khidr asked Moses for help

18:11

He helped him in repairing the wall

18:16

After repariring the wall, both felt tired

18:23

Moses, peace be upon him, said to Al-Khidr who didn't ask for any payment

18:27

It was a people who denied them hospitality despite that they were travellers

18:33

Then, he builds a wall for them for free?

18:36

When they left, Moses, peace be upon him, told him

18:42

“If you wanted, you could have demanded a fee for this.”

18:48

At least, you could have asked for a payment for repairing the wall

18:52

Al-Khidr looked at Moses, peace upon him signaling the end of the journey

18:56

I won't be able to continue this journey with you

19:00

He replied, “This is the parting of our ways. I will explain to you what you could not bear patiently.

19:14

I'm going to explain to you the three events that you were unpatient toward

19:19

However, this is the end of the journey

19:24

This is the parting of our ways.

19:46

May Allah have mercy on Moses; if he had been patient with al-Khidr, we would have heard extraordinary wonders from that journey

19:53

This is a saying of our Prophet, peace be upon him, which comforted him with these stories and helped him endure the people

20:03

Al-Khidr said to Moses, "The journey has come to an end, and this is the time for parting."

20:09

But before we part, I will tell you what happened

20:15

He said: Please tell me

20:17

Do you recall the ship that we took and the generous people who invited us?

20:24

Yes, the ship that you broke to sink its people

20:30

On the other side, a tyrannical and oppressive king was waiting for them. You did not know about him, O Moses.

20:39

That king went to the shore that day and said to his soldiers, "Any ship you see without defect, seize it."

20:52

His soldiers were spread along the shore, inspecting the ships that docked

21:01

If they found a sound and intact ship, they would seize it by force.

21:07

So I wanted to damage this ship so that it would not be seized by force, because its owners are poor but honorable people.

21:16

“As for the ship, it belonged to some poor people, working at sea.

21:23

So I intended to damage it, for there was a ˹tyrant˺ king ahead of them who seizes every ˹good˺ ship by force.

21:35

You see? I did not do this to harm them, but rather as an act of mercy towards them

21:43

What about the boy that you killed? Why did you kill him?

21:46

That pure and innocent soul - how did you dare to kill it?

21:55

As for the boy, he two righteous parents

21:59

The two righteous parents were praying God to provide them a righteous son to assist them

22:10

Allah granted them this boy, but in the knowledge that He taught me, if this boy were to grow up, he would not be righteous

22:20

He would become wicked and unjust, and he would harm his parents

22:27

Yes, I'm telling you what you're hearing o Moses

22:31

He will harm them and he will force them into disbelief

22:38

So I wanted to take his soul before he reached maturity, so that Allah, the Almighty, would not hold him accountable

22:44

This is the first reason

22:46

Then, out of mercy for his parents, so that they would not disbelieve with him

22:50

Third, so Lord would give them another, more virtuous and caring in his place

22:58

“And as for the boy, his parents were ˹true˺ believers, and we feared that he would pressure them into defiance and disbelief.

23:10

So we hoped that their Lord would give them another, more virtuous and caring in his place.

23:18

What about the wall? Why did you repair them wall despite that they do not deaserve it?

23:23

Listen to the story of the wall o Moses

23:26

The village is a village of mean people. In this village there are two young orphans who had a righteous father

23:43

It was said that the intended person was not the father, but the seventh grandfather,

23:48

He was the righteous one and he used to pray for the protection of his descendants.

23:52

God protects the offspring of righteous men

23:55

This seventh grandfather or father had a treasure before his death and his children were young

24:02

He was afraid that if he died, the mean people would take their treasure

24:06

because the children were young and would not be able to protect their treasure.

24:09

He put the treasure under the wall

24:14

If my children grow up and the wall falls and they discover this treasure, this will be when they grow up.

24:23

This was the only plan that he had

24:25

But unfortunately the father died while the children were still young and the wall almost fell.

24:34

If it falls, this treasure will be revealed.

24:36

Out of mercy for the orphans, God sent them that righteous servant.

24:43

Rather, God, out of mercy for the orphans, sent them the two best people at that time.

24:49

Moses and Al-Khidr

24:52

This is to preserve the treasure for them, out of respect for that righteous father.

24:59

“And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city,

25:10

and under the wall was a treasure that belonged to them, and their father had been a righteous man.

25:17

Look at the impact of the righteousness of the father on the children

25:19

So your Lord willed that these children should come of age and retrieve their treasure, as a mercy from your Lord.

25:32

Do you everything that I did o Moses?

25:35

I did not do it ˹all˺ on my own.

25:38

This is the revelation of God on me

25:41

This suggests that he is a prophet

25:43

I did not do it ˹all˺ on my own. This is the explanation of what you could not bear patiently.”

25:56

The journey between Moses, peace be upon him, and Al-Khidr is over

26:01

Moses bade farewell to Al-Khidr and went back to his people, to the Children of Israel

26:11

He returned to his people, but during that period a sad incident happened to Moses, peace be upon him.
