Sharper Tools with Tormek Diamond Wheels
FULL TRANSCRIPT
G'day and welcome to this overview of Tormek's range of diamond wheels. My
name is Michael from Promac Tools, and in this video, we'll be taking a closer look
at the diamond wheel range available for the Tormek T8 and T4 machines.
Tormek's diamond wheels are a great addition to their traditional range
of grindstones. These wheels are designed to provide an effective and precise way to
sharpen a variety of tools, from knives, chisels, carving tools, turning tools,
and more. There are three grades of wheels available for each machine, and they are
suitable for all types of materials, including steel, ceramic, and carbide.
Let's take a closer look, starting with the DC-250. It has a grit size of 360.
This wheel is designed for rapid steel removal,
and it's perfect for re-establishing a bevel or repairing damaged edges on your tools.
Next up is the DF-250 fine wheel 600 grit. This is our most popular wheel
and is considered our all-rounder. Great for most applications, providing efficient steel
removal combined with a smooth finish. If you're considering diamond wheels, then this will be a
great wheel to start with. Finally, we have the DE-250, our extra-fine diamond wheel with
a grit size of 1200. This wheel will give you an extra-fine surface, great for those tools that
only need minimal steel removal. Very suitable for those who work with carving tools and knives.
Now let's take a look at the DC-200, DF-200, and DE-200 diamond wheels.
These wheels are fundamentally the same as their 250 counterparts, but they have
a smaller diameter, which is suited for the T4, T4 Bushcraft, and older machines such as the T3.
So why choose diamond wheels over Tormek's traditional grindstones? Well,
it really comes down to the user's needs and depends on the application. But there are a
few advantages which stand out. Diamond is the world's hardest material and works
in perfect harmony with our low motor speed. Diamond wheels are also extremely durable and
provide a long service life. This means you won't need to replace them often.
Furthermore, diamond wheels don't need to be trued or graded as we need to do with our traditional
grindstones. They maintain their shape, which means you can always have the same jig setting
for the tool and spend more time sharpening and less time maintaining this. And third,
when using diamond wheels combined with Tormek's MB-100 multibase, you can sharpen
a completely flat bevel on the side of the diamond grinding wheel. This is sometimes a
preferred method for some carving tools, such as luthier knives or Kiridashi style knives.
Thanks for watching! We hope you found this overview of the diamond wheel range helpful
for using your Tormek sharpening systems. If you'd like to see more content like this,
