UN Women at a Moment of Change

one year ago U.N women found itself at a

moment of change with the imminent start

of a new strategic plan and the arrival

of a new executive director

in the time since the world's women and

girls have faced multiple compounding

crises

the persisting impacts of covid-19 are

raging climate crisis and seemingly

intractable violent conflicts any War or

conflict impacts the entire life cycle

of women and girls

gender equality offers a pest to

sustainable peace and conflict

prevention and yet we are moving in the

opposite direction

U.N women has risen to these challenges

exemplified by the work of our teams in

the most difficult contexts such as in

conflicts in Ukraine Ethiopia and Yemen

and the rollback of women's rights in

Afghanistan demonstrating The crucial

contribution we bring to crisis response

we have stepped up as a political actor

and assisted member states in achieving

the best possible outcomes from their

deliberations in intergovernmental

spaces

at one of the most challenging

commissions on the status of women in

recent years we helped Place women at

the heart of the climate agenda

when we Foster and invest in women's

resilience we are building the defenses

of the future as well as the assets of

today

strengthen our internal governance our

accountability and our results making

our organization ever more fit for

launching a new transparency portal

which allows public access to our

results and resources information by

partnering with the development

coordination office to bolster gender

capacity in countries where U.N women is

not present and by greatly increasing

fund allocation towards strengthening

capacity in the field

all these achievements have been founded

on our close relationship with the UN

women executive board and its consistent

guidance and support they have aligned

with and contributed two member states

efforts and progress toward gender

equality Madame executive director is

assured you will have my personal as

well as the entire bureaus and votes who

support in the realization occupation

this collaboration is more essential

than ever since the world is off track

to achieve sdg5 we need to do more and

do so

urgently

achieving peace and sustainable

development requires that we mobilize

the abilities and potentials of everyone

in our human family we can never succeed

without the best efforts of half the

population

the distance to achieving sdg5 is far

and time is short

bold evidence-based actions and

increased financing are needed for a

whole of society effort to address the

needs and rights of all women and girls

U.N women pledges to be at the heart of

this effort we will build on the

strength of the last year and our solid

foundations established through our Ed's

focus on efficiency and results the

dedication of our staff The crucial

support of the board and the leadership

of member states we will work with all

our partners to escalate results and

impact for women and girls around the

world and we will continue to add value

by cementing gender equality as one of

the core principles of the wider un

system
