0:00

hey everyone me kevin here so this last

0:01

week has been particularly difficult for

0:03

me but i'm all about learning things and

0:05

i want to share those thoughts and

0:07

realizations and lessons with you

0:08

because i think there are going to be

0:10

things that if you can avoid making

0:11

these mistakes are going to save you a

0:14

lot of money and hopefully make you huge

0:17

sums of money so in this video i'm going

0:19

to talk about something that i believe

0:20

is very important to both us and

0:22

outsiders and everyone they're going to

0:24

be practical tips these are going to be

0:25

some big announcements towards the end

0:27

which i'm kind of excited about so uh

0:29

all right

0:30

let's get into this uh in order to get

0:32

into this it's gonna take a little

0:33

background okay when i first became a

0:34

real estate agent in 2010 i dressed up

0:37

in a suit every single day i made sure

0:39

my shoots were signing a shiny my my car

0:42

was clean everything i did was so

0:43

professional to the point where when i i

0:45

went door knocking i went door knocking

0:47

even in the summer in a full-on suit

0:49

like whatever i could do to appear like

0:52

damn that guy is always ready to sell

0:54

your house no matter what time of the

0:56

day it is

0:57

that was the impression i wanted to give

0:58

off i didn't drink in public i wouldn't

1:00

have fun in public i probably wasn't fun

1:02

i wouldn't walk outside unless i was

1:04

dressed in a suit i wouldn't go to lunch

1:05

with my family unless it was in a suit

1:07

and my car was perfect and everything

1:08

was perfectly parked or looked good the

1:10

paper's inside my car better be clean

1:12

and neat and organized just in case

1:14

somebody walked by and looked inside

1:15

they didn't see a disaster

1:16

every potential outward impression had

1:19

to be perfect and it was very very

1:20

stressful in fact it took me years to

1:23

finally just put on like an under armour

1:24

shirt and shorts and go to a lunch place

1:27

and of course the first time i did that

1:29

on a day i'm like i just want to wear

1:30

cash clothing for once i'm sure nobody

1:32

will see me of course a client walks and

1:34

goes hey kevin fancy seeing you here and

1:36

i'm just like

1:37

kill me it's just like terrible right uh

1:40

because really when i didn't have the

1:43

impression of being in a suit it clearly

1:45

meant that obviously if i'm not in a

1:47

suit i'm not working and obviously uh

1:50

you know if if i'm not in work clothing

1:52

then how could i be professional i must

1:53

not be planning on going on any

1:55

appointments so not only does it mean

1:56

you're not working now but it probably

1:58

means you're not working later or right

1:59

before this which means you're a lazy

2:01

bum because it's you know lunch time and

2:03

you're not working

2:04

right so now you might think this sounds

2:06

extreme

2:07

but quite frankly it's the reality of

2:09

the work or the world that we live in

2:11

today the way you see me now or whenever

2:15

is what you assume i am like when i am

2:18

off camera that is the same thing that

2:20

applies to me as a real estate agent

2:22

when you see me as with a suit and

2:25

everything super professional you assume

2:27

the same is true

2:28

that right before right after you see me

2:31

that guy's probably in a suit probably

2:33

in an appointment somewhere working his

2:34

ass off right now this becomes really

2:36

important because if you're perceived as

2:38

somebody who is lazy who sleeps in who

2:41

takes naps whether you do or do not i

2:43

mean you are human right we are human

2:45

after all and we have to have balance in

2:47

our lives but whether you do or do not

2:49

when people think you're lazy and they

2:50

have this impression then they

2:52

extrapolate that laziness they assume

2:54

you sleep in take naps play video games

2:56

drink during the day drink at night

2:57

drink all the time and you're just

2:59

unproductive and

3:01

potentially a loose cannon and a dead

3:03

end employer to work for and this is

3:05

very dangerous and it's very damaging

3:07

see potential clients will believe in

3:10

whatever you're selling or your business

3:11

less which means less money for you

3:13

co-workers employees your boss your

3:16

friends could perceive you as someone

3:19

who doesn't deserve their faith that you

3:22

don't have the ability to operate a

3:23

business grow a business or build a

3:25

massively successful company because

3:27

you're a bum consider this okay now i'm

3:29

making this extreme example this example

3:31

here is not designed to say really

3:33

anything about elon musk it's just to

3:35

use elon musk as an example okay

3:37

obviously i'm not going to be perfectly

3:38

right because we don't know the answer

3:39

he's actually really good think about

3:41

this he's really good at hiding certain

3:44

things from us imagine what he's hiding

3:46

well humanity listen to this

3:49

if you believed right now that elon musk

3:52

sleeps eight hours a day goes to dinners

3:54

every day goes to drinks with family and

3:56

friends every day at six o'clock after

4:00

work is able to 4 20 and up every day

4:02

has parties and spends more time on

4:05

social media than he probably should

4:06

well then if that's the way you knew

4:09

elon you might think that wow he's a bum

4:12

he sleeps too much he drinks too much he

4:14

eats too much he smokes too much

4:15

whatever what a loser that's the

4:17

impression that that person would then

4:20

give off now obviously we expect the

4:21

reality is different but we when we

4:23

think of elon we think of those old

4:25

stories of how he slept on the factory

4:27

floor how he slept you know three hours

4:29

just to get the factory off the line

4:31

people can do that you know for some

4:33

part of your life but you can't do that

4:35

your entire life long because then then

4:37

you just either die of cardiac arrest or

4:40

heart attack or or you

4:41

you burn out right like i have similar

4:44

stories to that when when i was 18 and

4:46

19 and 20 and really starting to grind

4:48

right i don't have a factory but the

4:50

point is

4:51

the reality of elon musk's real work

4:54

schedule is probably quite

4:57

uninspiring and unimpressive but the

4:59

stories of the hard work of the past and

5:02

the fact that we don't see elon musk out

5:04

drinking and partying and all this stuff

5:06

generally in public kind of makes us

5:08

feel like okay well his past is probably

5:10

still true now that guy's got to be a

5:12

workaholic he's got so many companies

5:13

even though they're a hundred thousand

5:15

plus employees he's probably got so much

5:16

to do he's probably so freaking busy

5:18

don't get me wrong i still think he's a

5:19

workaholic he's always thinking about

5:20

work and and bringing more onto his

5:22

plate rather than less right the

5:24

impression is that elon is always

5:26

working and no matter whether or not

5:28

that is true or not it is motivating for

5:31

his employees there's a reason why when

5:34

you see elon he's always working it's

5:38

brilliant it is a key lesson of this

5:40

video people assume that what you are

5:42

doing now will extend to when they don't

5:45

see you so again if every time people

5:48

who work for elon saw him smoking weed

5:50

and playing video games in the office

5:51

instead of working they'd probably not

5:53

want to work for tesla anymore and so

5:56

i'm going to announce some major changes

5:57

and i think i'm very excited about them

5:59

some of them are kind of like sad

6:00

because like seriously this is the world

6:02

we're in but yeah so i'm going to talk

6:04

about some exciting changes and i'm

6:05

going to tell you some secrets and some

6:06

real practical tips in just a moment

6:09

also give you a little bit of a look

6:10

inside sort of the day in the life of

6:11

kevin but first we've got a very

6:13

important message from our sponsor thank

6:15

you today sponsor albert i'm really

6:17

excited about today's sponsor because i

6:19

think they will help a lot of people out

6:20

albert is free to sign up for and super

6:23

easy to use it is a bank account with no

6:26

hidden fees traditional banks quite

6:28

frankly are terrible they charge

6:30

ridiculous fees like 35 for overdraft

6:33

protection or even a fee just to keep

6:36

the account open albert doesn't charge

6:38

these fees in fact albert will spot you

6:41

up to 250 whenever you need it instantly

6:44

that's why i love albert instead of

6:46

trying to nickel and dime you on fees

6:48

they have your back that way if you are

6:51

ever in a cash crunch for example you're

6:53

at the gas station and you realize you

6:55

just don't have money in your account

6:57

albert's got your back and we'll spot

6:59

you the money then you pay back the

7:01

money with your next paycheck and you

7:03

don't have to pay any interest

7:04

and they even give you cash back on

7:07

their debit card you can also get 5 to

7:10

20 percent cash back at popular stores

7:12

like mcdonald's walmart and starbucks

7:15

all you have to do is swipe your card

7:16

and it will show up instantly in your

7:18

account managing your finances can be

7:21

difficult and stressful but thankfully

7:23

albert has a team of financial experts

7:25

they call geniuses that will look at

7:27

your situation and help you come up with

7:29

a plan and answer any questions that you

7:31

have if you get stuck for a limited time

7:34

when you open an account and connect a

7:36

qualifying direct deposit you'll get 150

7:39

dollars just make sure you use the link

7:42

in the description down below to sign up

7:44

for an account now and get that 150

7:46

dollars when you connect a direct

7:48

deposit so now let's talk briefly about

7:50

me let me just give you an idea of kind

7:52

of how i work so generally i wake up

7:54

between 5 and 5 20 in the morning every

7:55

day i try using the little sleep sleep

7:57

cycle app so it kind of wakes me up

7:59

ideally between that time frame i love

8:01

that thing i work about 12 hours from

8:03

there and then i'm dead i do take an

8:04

hour break to have a quick bite to eat

8:07

uh and then i go on a run so i go on a

8:09

run for about like 48 minutes it's it's

8:11

about like four to five miles uh that

8:13

means uh so it's like a jog it's not

8:14

like i'm really trying to run a marathon

8:15

here and run like super fast uh i'm not

8:17

really that fast i probably average

8:19

about eight eight minutes miles and then

8:20

i try to go longer whatever this means

8:22

i'm working roughly eight hours a day

8:24

every day of the week unless i'm on a

8:26

personal vacation and a lot of my work

8:28

right now goes into reading and planning

8:30

and research that's because that's like

8:32

there's a reason when i do my live

8:33

streams i can talk about a lot of

8:35

different things about what's going on

8:36

the market because i spend hours of time

8:38

researching and reading and i try to

8:40

give you the summary of that i also

8:41

spend a lot of time planning because

8:43

i've got

8:44

like life-changing massive businesses

8:46

coming up that are really sort of my

8:48

dream and vision of the future and i'm

8:51

so excited to launch those and announce

8:53

those and we've got some changes coming

8:54

exactly for those which is going to be

8:55

super fun but see here's the thing

8:57

while i spend 70 hours 70 if you do 11

9:00

times 12 right that's about uh sorry 11

9:02

hours a day times seven that's about 77

9:05

hours a week of work right that's

9:06

roughly twice the typical 40 hour work

9:09

week right that doesn't mean people on

9:11

salary don't do little brief things

9:12

outside of work like maybe three extra

9:14

hours a week of emails or texts or

9:16

whatever that's just called life that's

9:18

having a job right but people who look

9:20

outside of my life who don't know me

9:23

they might look and say wait a minute

9:25

kevin says he works so much but he lives

9:27

in a basic house he refuses to remodel

9:29

his own house he doesn't really have

9:31

extravagant photos on social media with

9:34

gold chains and watches and a fancy pool

9:36

or spa he doesn't even have a backyard

9:38

he doesn't even have a driveway and this

9:40

guy supposedly owns a bunch of real

9:43

estate and is supposedly successful see

9:45

but then it also gets worse right if

9:47

you're local to me it's like oh well i

9:49

saw kevin the other day going out for

9:51

dinner and the next day i saw him going

9:53

out bowling and like wait a minute

9:54

boring house plays video games goes out

9:57

with family or friends at night and

9:59

apparently and allegedly works out of a

10:02

home he's got his own studio in his home

10:04

and then bought another home close by to

10:06

have employees work out of and and he's

10:08

been making less videos sounds to me

10:10

like kevin's just a lazy bum well these

10:13

things are things that have actually

10:15

taught me massive lessons and i'm really

10:18

excited to share these so the first

10:20

lesson is look impressions matter and

10:23

this is how i started my business you

10:25

appear bigger than you are now i'm a big

10:27

fan of ultimate transparency on my

10:29

channel so i'm always really transparent

10:31

on this channel like i will tell you

10:32

everything and i'm going to tell you

10:33

about some cool plans coming up but

10:35

there's a reason why people buy planes

10:37

big homes and big offices it's because

10:39

they want to appear successful and

10:42

having an office can matter working from

10:45

home and coven has really blurred this

10:48

it's kind of in my opinion built a lot

10:49

of resentment amongst people because

10:51

it's like even though somebody could be

10:52

a really hard worker if they see you

10:54

having one minute of enjoyment oh no

10:56

that implies you're always having

10:58

enjoyment and therefore you're a lazy

11:00

bum and so if you want to appear

11:01

successful you probably have to separate

11:04

that home life and friend life from work

11:06

life this is why when i was a real

11:08

estate agent it was always in the suit

11:11

when kevin's not in a suit it's when

11:13

he's in a place nobody else is going to

11:14

see him

11:15

right because you are a human you have

11:17

family time you go to the gym you do

11:19

things outside of work if you only live

11:22

to work then what kind of life is that

11:23

it's going to be a quite depressing life

11:25

uh you know when you're on your deathbed

11:27

someday and it's like wow yeah i wish i

11:28

worked more not now i personally think

11:31

this is very sad because i do think that

11:32

work from home is really cool because it

11:34

helps us prevent spending money on

11:35

frivolous things like impressions i

11:37

personally don't think i need a

11:39

waterfront home to show off how

11:40

successful i am i don't think i need

11:42

like some crazy photographer to follow

11:44

me around and take photos of all my jazz

11:47

and all my glam to show all that crap

11:49

off because i consider myself a

11:52

relatively frugal person now i work hard

11:53

play hard so when i travel i like to

11:55

spend money but i don't like spending

11:56

money on worthless things that i don't

11:58

think matter like i think we can

11:59

effectively work extremely well out of a

12:02

uh you know what 2500 square foot home

12:04

that i bought just like we could work

12:06

out of a 2500 square foot office if we

12:08

had one i really don't think there's

12:09

much of a difference except one is much

12:10

closer to me it's much more convenient

12:12

but

12:13

this brings up one of the big changes

12:15

that i'm going to make uh i am going to

12:18

acquire an office i expect to acquire

12:20

somewhere between a four to five

12:21

thousand square foot office for all the

12:22

companies that we're going to launch and

12:24

what i'm going to do is i'm going to

12:26

build it out in a frugal way but i'm

12:28

going to have a real office no more

12:30

working from home because working from

12:31

home blurs that friend

12:33

family line and it also it gives this

12:36

impression that oh when kevin's working

12:38

he just happens to be at home who knows

12:40

maybe he's napping maybe he's he's

12:42

playing age of empires or something

12:43

right that doesn't work because it

12:45

creates misimpressions we're going to

12:47

create a professional company out of a

12:49

professional office and it's really sad

12:52

to say this because i think some of

12:53

these things are frivolous but it's it's

12:54

the way things work now now the other

12:57

thing to keep in mind and this is sort

12:58

of another lesson and i'm going to talk

12:59

about sort of plans is it's really

13:02

critically important that you don't mix

13:03

family friends and employees like those

13:06

things should not be mixed together most

13:08

importantly friends and employees

13:10

because the reality is if you unveil

13:13

that hey yeah i work a 77 hour work week

13:16

but then other times of the day like in

13:18

the evenings i'm having fun i'm going to

13:20

dinner i'm going bowling i'm doing

13:22

escape rooms or i'm drinking or whatever

13:23

the impression is wow it seems like half

13:25

the time kevin's having fun and the

13:27

other half maybe he's working but

13:29

because he's at home we don't know and

13:31

so what's the impression that lasts it's

13:33

the impression that you're actually not

13:35

working which is really bad and of

13:37

course people around you never consider

13:39

the fact that maybe you spend tens of

13:40

thousands of hours building a business

13:42

and thinking and reading and research

13:44

researching to help expand that business

13:46

but oh well that's impressions right

13:48

what did we talk about with elon musk if

13:50

elon musk every single night had a drunk

13:53

cyber rodeo party people would assume

13:55

that he's obviously not going to want to

13:58

go from having that fun to hardcore work

14:01

at 5 20 in the morning the next day

14:03

right so those are really important

14:06

things it's all about those impressions

14:08

and impressions can create entitlement

14:11

or resentment and both of those things

14:13

are very very bad because if employees

14:15

feel entitled and they feel like they're

14:16

entitled to more money because the boss

14:18

is having fun or having a balanced life

14:20

but i'm still in the grind phase of my

14:22

life that's bad if people start then

14:24

resenting that then they're going to

14:26

become unmotivated unhappy and they will

14:29

either leave for somebody who gives them

14:31

the right impressions at least who knows

14:32

expectations versus reality or tend to

14:34

be very funny or they should be fired

14:36

because they're sandbagging your company

14:38

anyway this is a really bad thing as

14:40

soon as and ross gerber said this

14:43

wonderful thing uh in an interview with

14:45

me december 29th you could just go meet

14:47

kevin ross gerber look for the december

14:49

29th video when i had pink hair

14:51

and uh you'll see ross gerber about an

14:54

hour and eight minutes in to that video

14:56

says here's the thing kevin when

14:58

employees come work for me i make sure

15:00

to find people who are not entitled and

15:02

the way i do that is i tell them you

15:04

work for me for six months

15:06

six months prove to me how good you are

15:09

prove to me how much value you can

15:11

provide and then i'll pay you more and i

15:14

don't know what that number is going to

15:14

be it depends on how hard you work but

15:17

then

15:18

ross gerber goes on to say when they

15:20

come to me in six months then we

15:22

actually can sit down and have a real

15:23

conversation if they come to me in two

15:25

months and they're like hey i've been

15:26

working hard where's my raise you're

15:28

fired no that's a little extreme but

15:30

that's what ross gerber said and he was

15:31

making this point that entitlement is so

15:35

bad so you gotta be careful with this

15:36

because remember if you're an employee

15:39

your goal is to figure out how can i

15:40

make the company more money how can i

15:43

get the company to the next level and

15:46

then you get paid more but unfortunately

15:48

some people have this impression that

15:50

well in order for me to be motivated to

15:52

work harder i should be paid more i've

15:55

literally had people say that to my face

15:57

well if you paid me more i would be more

16:00

motivated which is really ironic because

16:02

that sort of attitude usually gets you

16:04

paid less not more or fired or you leave

16:07

and go to a worse opportunity like that

16:09

so uh impressions matter we talked about

16:11

employees we talked about uh

16:14

you know this this this image that

16:16

unfortunately the world requires of us

16:18

which has really been blurred by covet

16:20

because look you and i we might like

16:22

working from home but damn it could

16:24

create some misimpressions right it's a

16:26

problem

16:27

the other thing that i found uh oh and

16:29

and i should note well i'll say that in

16:31

a moment okay the other thing that i

16:33

found is that experience matters like

16:35

when you're hiring people i've always

16:36

believed that it's entirely possible to

16:38

hire people with zero skills zero

16:40

experience and hard workers will mold

16:42

themselves into exactly what you need i

16:43

believe that because when i was 18 i

16:45

thought i could do anything i work

16:46

really really hard but every single year

16:48

that i've gotten older i look back and

16:50

i'm like man i was an idiot at 29 man i

16:52

was an idiot at 27 26 25 24 23 22 right

16:56

and it's just like every year i'm like

16:57

oh yeah okay now i i see the other sides

17:00

more i can communicate better uh and i'm

17:03

constantly learning this is why i spent

17:04

so much time thinking and researching

17:06

and studying and trying to figure out

17:07

how can we do things better and more

17:09

efficiently and how can we make sure

17:10

that there aren't

17:12

disastrous misimpressions right so i

17:15

believe that one of the things that i

17:17

also like to do is i don't like to

17:19

micromanage i think that's really

17:20

important i like

17:21

experienced self-inspired people who

17:23

could self-learn and

17:26

find their own way to provide value to a

17:28

company those are people who deserve to

17:30

be promoted and and you know really

17:33

purposefully overpaid and it's not to

17:34

say that somebody's overpaid because you

17:37

know they they're just being overpaid

17:39

and therefore they should feel guilty

17:40

that they're overpaid no it's supposed

17:41

to be an honorable thing like you're

17:43

being overpaid because we value you so

17:45

much right that's so important and i

17:47

think that's something that like every

17:48

six months an employee should have a

17:50

conversation with their boss about for

17:51

example when i worked at jamba juice and

17:53

i was making eight bucks an hour and i'm

17:55

like hey i've been here for 12 months

17:57

now could we talk about you know either

17:59

more responsibilities uh how can i

18:02

you know provide more value to the

18:04

business you know i've done first of all

18:05

here here are ways that i've already

18:06

provided value of the business but i'm

18:08

ready to take on more responsibility

18:09

what can i do to make more money and

18:11

they're like oh well you're good right

18:12

now here's a five cent raise and i'm

18:14

like

18:15

12 months and a five cent raise

18:17

see ya

18:19

right like i quit right away uh this is

18:21

the alternate of let's say if if

18:24

somebody came to me and they're like hey

18:25

i'm making 90 000 right now i want to

18:27

provide a lot more value and i think

18:29

i've been providing value and i want to

18:31

make 125 000 now for an example and the

18:34

boss is like you know what i value

18:35

absolutely here you go that's that's how

18:38

things should be now that doesn't mean

18:39

that you would anybody who's making 90

18:41

right now is going to be able to jump to

18:42

125 but that that's a way of providing

18:45

or showing uh value right so i don't

18:49

like micromanaging i love people growing

18:52

into this but i'm going to change the

18:54

type of people that i'm looking to hire

18:55

so now i'm looking to hire probably

18:57

about four to six professionals to help

18:59

me with my launch in addition to hiring

19:01

experienced board members see

19:03

what we're launching is going to require

19:06

board members who probably get

19:07

compensated essentially in like options

19:09

for future equity and then real

19:12

professionals who can actually work on

19:14

the team and so we're going to need

19:15

people with real construction experience

19:17

this doesn't mean they have to have like

19:18

a license constructing construction team

19:20

right now we just need a lot of

19:21

construction experience investment

19:23

banking experience marketing experience

19:25

sales experience like serious

19:26

professionals who are self-motivated and

19:28

can get put into a situation and they're

19:30

like oh i know exactly what to do next

19:32

and i'm motivated to what do what to do

19:34

next because i can i could see the

19:36

future sometimes uh individuals with

19:39

less experience don't necessarily see

19:41

through

19:42

short-term uh you know misimpressions to

19:45

be able to get to

19:46

uh where where we're heading and so uh

19:49

that's gonna be another change that i'm

19:51

going to make but the third change that

19:52

i'm going to make so office type of

19:54

employees and misimpressions

19:57

is i'm going to move my studio out of my

19:59

house

20:00

that way i can finally separate work and

20:02

family and this has been a very big

20:04

problem for me i have always worked out

20:06

of the home even back when i was a real

20:07

estate agent and this creates a lot of

20:09

anxiety for me because sometimes when i

20:10

play at home with my children

20:12

because my home is also my office i

20:15

might be playing upstairs with the kids

20:17

and then thank god but i should re i

20:18

feel guilty i should really go

20:20

downstairs in the office and go film

20:21

another video well

20:23

that sucks because now i'm anxious with

20:26

my children when i should be happy with

20:28

my children terrible problem terrible

20:30

feeling so i'm going to move my entire

20:32

studio i haven't even completely

20:34

finished this one right now like i think

20:35

my background looks terrible right now

20:36

that's okay because it's it's actually

20:38

still in progress of actually becoming

20:40

what it actually will become but i've

20:41

paused that to solve other problems

20:44

and now if i move my studio to the

20:47

office and let's say i had like a

20:48

transparent glass studio or whatever you

20:50

can always see that when i'm in that

20:52

office i'm going to outwork everyone in

20:54

that office and that's not to try to

20:56

like brag they're like oh my gosh

20:57

kevin's going to you know work harder

20:58

than everybody else it's just i

20:59

purposefully want to send the signal

21:01

that when i work i crush it i work very

21:04

efficiently i get a lot of things done

21:06

and that's ultimately what everybody

21:08

should try to do that doesn't mean i'm

21:09

perfect doesn't mean i can't learn but

21:12

work when you're in the office you work

21:13

when you're out of the office you don't

21:14

work you spend time with family and stop

21:16

thinking about work and so that is a

21:18

really really important work-life

21:20

balance thing that i need to separate i

21:21

think the best solution for that is

21:23

getting the heck out of my office uh or

21:26

out of my home office getting into a

21:27

real office building a real company with

21:29

real real professionals and board

21:31

members people with experience and

21:32

surrounding myself with uh essentially a

21:35

team of people where we could do

21:36

whatever the he double hockey sticks we

21:39

want and so i am so grateful for

21:42

everything that i've learned over the

21:43

last few weeks i'm very very excited

21:45

about this and ultimately hopefully you

21:47

have learned something from the lessons

21:50

of disastrous misimpressions
