Scammers used my face - so I called them

You all know me. I'm Janick Rubesh, a

Czech YouTuber with a million

subscribers. €500 per day, €15,000

monthly. And no worries with your rent

payments. More vacations per year, no

problem. Buying a house,

>> the algorithm does everything itself.

You just watch the money flow. This will

change your life.

That is me. But it is not me. It is

obviously an AI. And thousands of you

have seen this ad and send us an email

and Instagram message uh to let us know

that my face is being used to scam

people, which is the scariest thing I've

ever heard of. Luckily, most people

recognized it. Unfortunately, there are

people who believed that that is me and

that what [music] I'm saying is actually

true. Well, we decided to follow with

the last group and find out what it is

like to be scammed by Yanek Rubesh from

the honest guide. Whichever Yanuk

[music] you will be seeing, I mean the

AI guy, either it's me uh giving an

interview to my friend Chismir or to the

girl Lily uh or it's me on a Zoom phone

call, it always leads to the one final

stop. I mean, I'm sorry, a midstop. And

that is to get you to a website that you

will recognize. It can be a CNN. It can

be whatever. Uh and they use different

people to uh trick you into this. And

they will say, "Look, you can make money

by doing whatever we're selling. All we

need is your information, your name,

your email, and your phone number." So

that's what we gave them. Thank you.

called yet, but we got an email

instantly that seemed very personal

despite the yellow font. Hello, Mr.

Fidil. Uh, I'm writing regarding your

registration. You gave us a wrong phone

number. Please give me your current one

so I can reach you, Barbara. Well,

Barbara, I'll be more than happy to talk

to you. Let me give you the number.

Amazing. I've seen and I know Yanek

Rubes from these videos and it seemed to

me that it looks good the exact service

because I know there is a lot of it out

there. So I was wondering how does that

work if you can tell me.

Bitcoin, Litecoin,

I've heard that you can make a lot of

money on Bitcoin. I I've heard about

that.

Uh, first of all, uh, she's not check.

She has a very thick eastern accent. I

don't know which eastern country she's

she's from, but she's not check. U, the

name is obviously fake. Uh, second,

she's not in an office. Uh, she is

somewhere outside. Further out in the

call, I will be asking her, "Are you on

the street?

>> Is that a tram I'm hearing?"

>> She claims to be somewhere in Prague did

not specify. And third, I hate those

monologues she's giving me about stuff.

She's using terms that I wouldn't really

understand, and you can clearly tell

it's not the first time she's scamming

someone. She's doing this for a living.

And that only leads you up to one thing.

She wants money from us.

Now, if I would give you, let's say,

20,000

and what can you do with that? You know,

because that guy Rubes in the ad, he

said that he could make me 15,000 a day.

I hope it's not a black market, you

know, because 15,000 a day sounds too

good. [laughter]

I mean, it's all legal, right? It's it's

legal, right?

You know, because even the phone call

that we have right now can be taped, you

know. Let's not say anything uh illegal.

Never mind.

>> Now, look, I'm already in my bank app.

I'm going to transfer you money

momentarily.

So, uh guide me.

You told me 4 hours you were on a phone

call with someone. Well, that's You

really have uh some nerves. Hold on.

It's loading.

>> I'm definitely not in a hurry. Oopsy

daisy. Doesn't seem to work.

>> Uh thank thank you for your uh

attendance.

Listen,

maybe I can just call my bank and they

can do it for me.

>> By the way, 40 minutes into the phone

call, [music] I learned something what

big YouTube channels that uh have been

doing this for ages eventually uh teach

the public uh like Scammers Payback or

Jim Browning. And that is you can easily

steal time from the scammers [music]

and it is fun. So, I understand these uh

big YouTubers doing this. Uh you know, I

do it once in a while and it's pretty

cool. And I guess you can figure out

from our videos how to do that. Just get

a like a disposable phone number.

>> Believe it or not, I'm seeing myself

right now. It's pretty confusing. You

know what? Look, I'm sorry. I I will

call my bank to get some advice because

they can help me in my bank for this

onetime payment.

>> Why are you suddenly so pushy and angry

at me? Come on.

Here's the snap in the phone call when

her approach towards me suddenly wasn't,

you know, we're on the friendly note.

She's like, "Why would you want to call

your bank? Come on. I'm here to help

you. I'm going to guide you through your

uh app and through the bank process, and

I'm going to help you um make your

limits higher, blah blah blah." Uh she

suddenly became more arrogant, more

pushy, and that's when all the red flags

and alerts in your head should start.

You know what I just thought of for a

second? That this is going to be used

for a fake AI video, which is just

sucks. If somebody's pushing you into

anything, stop. Just pause. You can hang

up the phone call. You can call your

friend, your girlfriend, boyfriend, mom,

dad, uh somebody who understands it

more, or simply call your bank and tell

them what's going on. [music] Maybe

they'll have a different perspective on

things. But if somebody's pushing you,

hang up.

>> That could work. We can do that. But you

have to give me your account number.

Okay,

>> 28. After wasting I'm sorry, enjoying as

much time as we could with the scammer

on the phone, I only had one thought

running through my head and that was I

really need another coffee.

>> Give me a second here. And uh we have

the account number. She gave us an

account number. She made a horrible,

horrible mistake because in our country

it cannot be anonymous. Account numbers

are attached to people. Therefore, we

can track her down. So, I did just that.

I immediately called the bank and I

said, "Look, this is a fraudulent

account number associated with it.

Scammers. You got to shut it down

immediately." With retrospect, I

realized that people in the bank must

think I'm crazy because I actually did

the easiest you can do, and that is to

Google the account number, to search for

it, and guess what? A result came up.

It's actually a transparent account

number associated to a charity. I did

not understand at first, but we reached

out to a specialist at the Czech police

who explained

We just spoke to a specialist from the

Czech police and we asked her, we've

worked together in the past, uh, what

does she think about this and she

explained to us that the scammer was

just checking if we were willing to send

any money and she didn't want to give

personal information as in an account

number, which I was stupid enough to

think that she made a mistake. She

didn't. So, we would send uh money to a

legit charity. She would see it and

she'd be like, "Okay, these people will

send money."

>> 3,000. Okay.

>> All right. I think it went through.

Listen, can we call each other later,

please?

Yeah, I'm acting strange.

Well, I'm sorry, but it went through.

>> It works for me. Did you turn it off and

on again?

Well,

>> I'll show you young lady how to use a

phone and take a picture.

I think the error may be between the

chair and the keyboard.

>> Well, have you tried unplugging it and

plugging it back in?

>> Yes. Listen, if you're telling me it's

Yanek Rubes on your ad, then I'm telling

you I just send you 3,000 crowns.

>> What's going to happen to my money?

>> And that's the most you can do is just

waste time of scammers. Uh, so we just

wasted her hour and six minutes on her

walk through the city and uh, we just

had some fun. By the way, the page where

we registered in the morning no longer

exists in the afternoon. Therefore, I'm

not even telling you what company we're

signing up for or what's the website

because uh, not tomorrow, but within

hours it will change. And as you can

see, it has already. It's not just my

face, my case. I mean, there's other

people involved in this without their

permission. My friend Kov, uh, many

Czech celebrities, many politicians,

billionaires. I'm not one of those. Uh,

but if you're asking why me and why now?

Well, in the recent months, we actually

had a case that broke out into the

traditional media. I mean, we were on

the headlines of big Czech news servers.

Uh therefore the scammers and the

different AI models were like well this

guy is currently being searched for and

he's currently popular. Let's use his

face. Though I'm surprised that the case

was about beer and they turned that into

investment somehow.

>> I mean I understand if you take a

billionaire and he's in a fake ad saying

like this is how I made money but you

take a YouTuber dressed up in a shirt

from thrift shop.

Now, if you have time on your hands and

you want to enjoy some fun, you can

obviously use your phone number and have

these scammers call you and take as much

time from their hands as possible

because when they'll be trying to scam

you and you're unscamable because you

watch the honest guide, right? Uh they

will not have time to scam someone else.

Uh and maybe sometime in the future uh

we can watch videos of people just

trolling these uh scammers. I I was

having fun.
