Shalom and good evening.

0:02

>> Hi.

0:03

>> Shalom.

0:04

>> Shalom. My name is Mikal and I'd like to

0:07

share a personal example of the impact

0:10

one organization can have. So I grew up

0:13

in Karaba uh in a religious community.

0:17

Uh at school I was placed in a class for

0:19

students with learning difficulties.

0:22

Um not because I was not smart but

0:25

because no one uh expected more of me.

0:28

Um,

0:31

and when expectations are low, dreams

0:34

start to shrink. Uh, around 11th grade,

0:38

something changed. A program called

0:40

Magalim entered my high school.

0:44

Uh, once a week, our instructoral

0:46

met with us. She did not teach us

0:49

academic skills. She taught us how to

0:52

think, how to set goals, and how to

0:54

believe that our future is not limited

0:57

by where we started in life.

1:00

At that time, I made a decision that was

1:02

considered very unusual in my school and

1:05

my community. I decided to join the

1:08

Israeli army.

1:10

Uh, in my environment, military service

1:12

for religious girls was not encouraged

1:16

and often seized as inappropriate.

1:20

But Ortal my instructor and Malim

1:23

supported me in every step of the

1:25

process. More than anything they gave me

1:28

confidence.

1:29

So uh I joined the Israeli Air Force. I

1:33

completed a meaningful service with high

1:35

distinction and today I continue to

1:38

serve as a reserveist.

1:41

Uh after

1:43

Thank you.

1:50

Thank you. Uh after my uh military

1:53

service, I began studying nursing

1:56

uh during Swords of Iron War. While I

1:59

was already in the middle of nursing

2:00

school, I served both at Telnof Air Base

2:04

and at the National Institute of

2:06

Forensic Medicine uh where I work to

2:09

this day supporting the national effort

2:11

in such a difficult period in my

2:13

country's history.

2:15

Uh, working there during the war was one

2:18

of the most challenging experiences of

2:20

my life. Day after day, I was exposed to

2:24

the human cost of war. Not through

2:27

headlines or statistics, but through

2:29

real people, real families, and real us.

2:34

Um, balance in studying reserve duty and

2:38

national service during wartime required

2:41

resilience, responsibility, and

2:44

leadership. Those are values that were

2:47

shaped years earlier through Magalim.

2:50

Through all of this, one thing was

2:52

always clear to me. I've wanted to be a

2:55

doctor since I was a little girl. Uh

2:58

nursing was never the end of the road

3:00

for me. It was just a step along the

3:02

way. Uh in my school, this sounded very

3:06

unrealistic to many people.

3:08

Um but the mindset that I gained from

3:11

Magalim

3:12

uh I just chose not to give up on this

3:16

goal.

3:17

Uh so during my studies Magaleim

3:20

continued to walk with me. Uh I received

3:22

a scholarship that helped me financially

3:24

as I was uh supporting myself. I was

3:27

also matched with an exceptional mentor

3:30

Mark Folik

3:32

um who met with me weekly. He challenged

3:34

me. He sharpened my thinking and he gave

3:37

me practical tools for confidence,

3:39

decision making and learn long-term

3:42

success.

3:44

Uh I completed my uh I completed my

3:46

nursing degree successfully and today

3:49

I'm in the process of being accepted to

3:51

medical school in Israel.

3:53

Thank you.

4:01

So, Magalim is not only a program for

4:04

high school students. It is a long-term

4:07

investment in human potential. I'm not

4:10

standing here because I am

4:11

extraordinary.

4:13

I am standing here because someone chose

4:15

to invest in me.

4:17

And uh today I ask you to be that

4:20

someone for the next generation. Your

4:23

support does not only change statistics,

4:25

it changes lives. Thank you very much.

4:34

Beautiful. Thank you very much.

4:40

>> Thank you, Mikal. Thank you very very

4:42

much.
