Trump THANKFULLY DESTROYED Newsom's dumb Project
FULL TRANSCRIPT
California's train to nowhere. Thank
goodness. Terminating $4 billion in
federal funds for the highspeed rail
project that never materialized. Our
very own Max Gordon is in DC with the
details. Max, my first vote when I was
18 was voting for this and it's a
disaster.
>> Yep. Back in what, Taylor? You voted for
this trash? Oh, come on.
>> Long time for this train. Transportation
Secretary Sean Duffy calling it a
boondoggle. Here he is earlier today.
>> It took uh 16 years and 15 billion
dollars uh in California highspeed rail
to not lay one track. Are you kidding
me?
>> Yep.
>> That's that's the American legacy right
now. We we can spend a lot of money and
take a lot of time and not build
projects.
The decision comes after a month-long
federal review of the project originally
approved by California voters back in
2008. The state's highspeed rail line
was initially supposed to connect Los
Angeles in San Francisco with an
original completion date set for 2020,
but years of delays and cost overruns
have plagued the proposed.
>> You know what's amazing is I ran for
governor against this. I ran for
governor in 2021 in California saying we
are going to end this stupid high-speed
rail
and the premise was simply the cost. Not
just that that as Fox is saying here
that the cost has gone uh from 33
billion to 135 billion, but also that
the cost for this stupid rail is
estimated at $22
uh $22 million per mile. Compare that to
a boring tunnel cost per mile of about
$10 million per mile, which is insane.
Even if you double it, it's or it's like
onetenth of the cost of the highspeed
rail because the highspeed rail has to
deal with rivers and mountains and
valleys and changing topography and fire
hazard zones and all this crap. And
frankly, you're kind of building it in
in places where Californians don't
really need it anyway. You know, this
idea that the highspeed rail uh is
somehow useful. Here are the uh current
currently cleared environmentally
cleared segments uh you know taking you
from Bakersfield basically to San Jose.
The idea uh well I mean that's the under
construction portion is actually more
Bakersfield to Merced but the idea was
to connect it to NorCal so you could go
live in Bakersfield where housing is
really cheap but then work in San Jose.
That was the idea, but that was, you
know, this has been pitched for like 17
years now. And the only portion that's
actually under construction is the
Bakersfield to like Fresno portion. But
that's basically going from inexpensive
housing to inexpensive housing. Like all
the other stuff hasn't actually gone
anywhere. And it's so overbudget. It is
a ridiculously expensive. And you'd be
better off not trying to build, you
know, train tunnels through all these
mountains. Notice they're not doing the
hard areas where the mountains are at
the coast or in LA where you have to go
through the valley of Burbank. You're
not going through anything other than
desert. And in the desert portion from
Bakersfield to Fresno, you still can't
get it done in 17 years. This is an
example of a complete failure in
California. And when when you look at
those per mile costs of uh how much
boring is spending uh versus how much
California is spending, any American
should look at this and go, "Thank
goodness we are cutting this project."
And you can see it over here. Here's a
business insider piece uh talking about
new tunnels that would be 21 ft in
diameter. This would be a boring tunnel,
Elon Musk boring tunnel. Uh and the
company says many traditional tunnel
projects cost $100 million to $1 billion
per mile. Uh and and they're doing this
at a cost of, you know, 10 to 20 million
per mile, which was incredible. Uh and
that's the average, right? Like for
example, the Las Vegas Loop, which is
only 1.7 mi, cost 47 million. So
obviously 47 divided by 1.7 is about 27
million a mile. But that's also only a
1.7 mile project. When you do this like
the highspeed rail and you do it over
400 miles, your average cost per mile
plummets if you don't suck at
constructing. So I actually think Trump
frankly saved Gavin Newsome uh from this
project. And it's and also you know the
federal government expenditures. It's
It's really incredible just how this
project has gone on for so long.
California highspeed rail, when was it
initially? It'd be very interesting to
see the the date that it was initially
approved. So, initially approved was
Yeah, it was a 2008 project. 2008
statewide bail ballot project. That's
what Taylor Riggs is talking about
having voted for. And it's been 17 years
and nobody has taken a single ride on
the highspeed rail. How crazy is that?
And that's 17 years of money printing.
Not like I mean this got approved at the
end of '08. So you basically got approve
approval for this project at the end of
a major recession and you've had 17
years of basically no recession. You
can't really call COVID a recession with
how quickly we printed money on this and
you couldn't get anywhere. Really sad.
Mind you also the top speed for the
train would be 220 mph. The top speed
for the train is literally
40% of the speed that you could have in
an aircraft. And you still have to deal
with ticketing and showing up to a
counter and boarding and deboarding and
all this. I mean, let's do let's do I
don't know, you know, Burbank to SFO
flights, you know, just for giggles. How
much is it going to cost me to go from
Burbank to San Francisco? Round trip 100
bucks. cheapest $98.
You know, what do I need a highspeed
rail for? I have planes that could take
me there much faster than some stupid
high-speed rail. Uh so, you know, good
good for Trump for finally killing this.
Even Democrats should be happy about the
killing of that.
>> Why not advertise these things that you
told us here? I feel like nobody else
knows about this.
>> We'll we'll try a little advertising and
see how it goes.
>> Congratulations, man. You have done so
much. People love you. People look up to
you.
>> Kevin Praath there, financial analyst
and YouTuber. Meet Kevin. And always
great to get your take.
