How To Get People To Open Up Using Psychology
FULL TRANSCRIPT
sh I'm a psychologist and here are four
ways I use psychology to get people to
open up in therapy number four kill
judgment not conversation as soon as
someone feels judged you've lost them so
seek only to understand and number three
use open questions this means asking
questions that need more than a yes or
no answer so instead of asking are you
okay ask something like what's on your
mind and number two when they finish
speaking reflect back what they' said in
your own words this gives them the
chance to really feel heard and
crucially invites them to keep expanding
on it further and number one most people
feel extremely uncomfortable when
someone cries so the natural instinct is
to shut it down and round off the
conversation but if you want someone to
open up you need to be able to sit with
that discomfort and allow the emotion to
be there without trying to make it go
away
