FULL TRANSCRIPT

0:00

hey everyone me kevin here i know a lot

0:01

of us are tired about hearing about

0:02

omicron but the reality is it is going

0:04

to put a severe dent in global gdp in

0:07

2022 it could affect supply chains it

0:10

could affect a lot of discretionary

0:14

spending and we could see that household

0:16

savings rate go right back up and of

0:19

course the potential of a reintroduction

0:21

of certain types of business stimulus

0:22

again we've got to talk about omicron

0:25

let's talk about it we'll also recap

0:27

what we've talked about in the past so

0:29

that way if you're new here you get a

0:30

quick little recap so let's get into the

0:32

news first so omicron is expected to be

0:34

dominant in britain denmark and norway

0:36

this month the us is facing a rising

0:38

cases but low levels of the variant so

0:40

far have been detected in individuals

0:43

remember just the other day the cdc said

0:45

we were at a three percent uh case rate

0:48

of omicron however listen to this folks

0:50

abc news just reported that even though

0:53

there have been almost no clinical

0:55

omicron infections in florida waste

0:57

water samples already show that the new

0:59

omicron variant is the dominant strain

1:02

in orlando florida this is really

1:04

important because orlando you might not

1:06

know is the home to disney world which

1:08

is obviously popular vacation

1:10

destination which means we're likely to

1:12

see omicron very quickly become dominant

1:14

throughout the rest of the united states

1:16

omicron represented almost 100

1:19

of the coronavirus samples uh collected

1:23

that's unbelievable

1:24

now uh those hospitalized

1:27

tentatively at least for the time being

1:30

seem to be coming in with delta though

1:32

delta seems to be leading to that rise

1:34

in hospitalizations the omicron variant

1:36

has been detected in at least 40 states

1:39

since the first case in the united

1:40

states 17 days ago on a seven day

1:42

average coven 19 hospital admissions are

1:45

up four percent to 7 800 per day and

1:48

deaths are up 8 to 1200 per day

1:50

now

1:51

this is this part here's going to be a

1:52

little bit of recap with some of the

1:54

most important of the data that we've

1:56

talked about in prior days along with

1:58

updates that are most relevant now so

1:59

i'm going to try to only in this next

2:01

section here try to keep the most

2:02

relevant information to what we know

2:04

specifically about

2:06

about these various different topics so

2:08

for example t cells we know that t cells

2:11

help our body fight illness they

2:13

specifically help prevent severe disease

2:16

well folks 70

2:18

of our t cells are expected to still

2:21

respond to omicron if you have two doses

2:25

of either the pfizer or the moderna

2:27

vaccine the pfizer was the one that's

2:29

tested and the moderna one is the one

2:30

that is expected to have a similar

2:33

response however antibodies folks this

2:35

is where we're running into issues with

2:37

the antibodies

2:38

there are indications uh on 12 9 we got

2:41

an indication from bloomberg that

2:43

antibody levels

2:45

by uh

2:46

as studied by bioentech

2:49

were at least to a decent level

2:53

to where antibodies could still help

2:55

fight omicron but another study was much

2:58

less positive and after this we find out

3:02

through yet another study that there's a

3:05

40-fold reduction in antibody

3:08

effectiveness in omicron from the alpha

3:11

variant for individuals with a double

3:13

shot of the vaccine

3:15

so antibodies are really getting hurt

3:17

hard here and again that's because of

3:19

all the mutations to the tip of the

3:22

spike protein the t helper cells they

3:25

attack the entire spike but it's the tip

3:28

that has a substantial amount of

3:29

mutations over 30 mutations the

3:31

antibodies are really failing here this

3:34

is helping well this is i should say

3:36

compounded by the fact that omicron is

3:39

four times more transmissible than delta

3:42

and

3:43

now we're getting indications that

3:45

omicron infects

3:48

70 times faster than delta but the

3:50

variant replicates about 10 times less

3:54

effectively than original covid and this

3:56

is how they're sort of getting to this

3:58

net net 4x transmissibility this was

4:01

really interesting released by a

4:03

university of hong kong study on

4:05

wednesday

4:06

and the lead researcher did mention that

4:09

although omicron is less severe it is so

4:12

infectious that it may lead to a higher

4:15

volume of severe disease and even death

4:18

and if you think about it to some degree

4:20

this makes sense if every single day you

4:23

have 50 000 people get covet and it's

4:27

the delta variant and maybe let's say 10

4:31

percent of those individuals are going

4:32

to the hospital that's 5 000 individuals

4:35

going to the hospital right well if

4:37

every day with omicron you have 1

4:40

million people who are getting omicron

4:43

and one percent so five times fewer

4:46

people are going to hospital one percent

4:47

of going to the hospital that's 10 000

4:50

hospitalizations that's twice as many as

4:52

delta and so that's the concern and you

4:54

can see in the numbers it's going to

4:56

create problems

4:57

right now

4:58

this was revised down which is scary

5:00

from 2.4 the previous rate was 2.4 in

5:03

the united kingdom omicron was doubling

5:05

at a rate of 2.4 days per double it's

5:09

now down at one and a half

5:12

in the united kingdom it is spreading

5:14

like wildfire now it's worth recapping

5:17

that the one death boris johnson

5:20

mentioned uh was a death with omicron

5:23

and not from omicron the daily mail

5:27

from the united kingdom

5:28

they indicated that they spoke with this

5:31

stepson of the individual who died and

5:33

the stepson said the person who died was

5:36

in his 70s who was fit and healthy and

5:38

never left the house he was an

5:40

unvaccinated conspiracy theorist and

5:43

this is what the stepson claimed late

5:45

yesterday and that we did not get this

5:47

transparency from boris johnson now

5:50

there are still some disease modelers

5:52

that believe we could usher in the end

5:54

of the pandemic by having omicron

5:57

however there are still questions of

5:59

like hey sure but if a lot of people get

6:00

omicron and we end up getting hurt

6:02

immunity through omicron what about long

6:04

covet and so long covet is still a big

6:06

question mark could people get long

6:08

coveted from omicron we just don't know

6:10

yet so people are still nervous about

6:12

catching omicron because of the

6:14

potential for long coven which a lot of

6:15

folks are trying to avoid there are even

6:17

younger folks who are like look i'm not

6:18

worried about dying i'm not worried

6:20

about having to go to the hospital but i

6:21

don't want lankova to affect me in my

6:24

sports or whatever

6:26

now regarding re-infections early

6:28

indications per bloomberg suggests it is

6:30

much easier to get reinfected with the

6:32

omicron variant even if you've already

6:35

had coven the same study

6:38

that indicated this

6:40

showed clinical results showing that

6:42

clinical results are coming out say that

6:44

the omicron variant is demonstrating

6:46

high rates of not only reinfection but

6:48

also vaccine breakouts not ideal now

6:52

regarding vaccines if you are double

6:54

vaccinated you are more likely to be

6:57

asymptomatic especially if you're closer

6:59

to when you got that shot obviously if

7:02

it's been six months your efficacy has

7:04

declined substantially against delta

7:06

after six months your efficacy goes from

7:08

like 85 to 90 percent down to around 45

7:11

to 50 percent with omicron you're going

7:13

down with two shots to as low as 22.5

7:18

according to time who broke this story

7:21

now the world health organization

7:23

recommends if you do get your second

7:25

dose get the same brand pfizer is

7:28

conducting clinical clinical vaccine

7:30

trials for children under five however

7:32

so far

7:33

two doses was not enough for children

7:36

under five so the current

7:38

trial is including a three dose regimen

7:42

for children under five in order to

7:44

create an immune response in younger

7:46

children the vaccine just did not

7:48

generate enough of an immune response

7:50

for children under five and especially

7:52

under two

7:54

now the cdc says children exposed to

7:56

covet can safely return to school for

7:58

in-person learning as long as they're

8:00

regularly tested for coven regarding

8:02

boosters the last that we had was from

8:05

reuters that on 1210 we heard boosters

8:08

could give a 70 to 75 percent protection

8:11

against symptomic disease but that you

8:13

were likely to still potentially get

8:16

covid uh but that you would be

8:17

asymptomatic and a recent columbia

8:20

university study from 1216 indicated

8:23

that omicron is markedly resistant to

8:26

vaccines and boosters saying that a

8:29

third vaccine may not protect against

8:31

infection or a third booster well your

8:34

third shot the booster may not protect

8:36

imperial college uh of london indicated

8:40

that having had covid only offers a 19

8:44

protection against omicron

8:46

now then we already know that apple is

8:49

offering money to some employees for

8:50

staying home jeffries and many funds are

8:53

working at home pinterest is working at

8:55

home throughout 2022 google's uh you

8:58

know threatening to withhold pay from

9:00

individuals who are unvaccinated and

9:01

others are delaying returning to the to

9:04

work uh facebook uber lyft other

9:06

companies like this you know

9:08

corporate office workers uh so this this

9:11

folks this is going to be a big drag on

9:13

gross domestic product right

9:15

now regarding masks uh a quick this was

9:18

just a quick little note here if two

9:19

people are masked with surgical masks

9:22

you do see about a 92 percent reduction

9:24

in transmission and i know we all hate

9:26

masks but i thought this was interesting

9:28

if an uninfected person is masked and

9:30

somebody is infected and is not masked

9:33

you get a 67 reduction in covid but if

9:36

the infected person is masked you get a

9:38

75 reduction in kova transmission

9:41

obviously the n95 mask is providing the

9:44

valveless one is providing uh some of

9:46

the best protection uh for both both

9:48

cases here

9:49

new york really is is the hot epicenter

9:52

of all of this right now uh live nation

9:54

cancellations are up ohio's also having

9:57

issues they've activated a thousand

9:58

national guard individuals to help

10:00

relieve staffing shortages at health

10:02

care facilities of the 263 people 263

10:06

000 people tested we're at about eight

10:08

percent positive in new york though npr

10:10

reports we could be as high as 13

10:12

positive with omicron in uh in new york

10:16

now uh the johnson and johnson vaccine

10:18

there is an advisory panel for the cdc

10:21

that mentioned that it prefers the

10:23

pfizer uh this was yesterday prefers the

10:26

pfizer and moderna vaccines over johnson

10:29

and johnson

10:30

and this is after the cdc confirmed that

10:33

54 people have developed a rare blood

10:35

clot condition following the johnson and

10:37

johnson vaccination all were

10:39

hospitalized and nine of them died 36

10:42

ended up having to go to the icu so that

10:44

is why they unanimously voted to

10:46

recommend pfizer and moderna over the

10:49

johnson johnson vaccine johnson johnson

10:51

stock didn't really fall after this news

10:53

because the j j vaccine is mostly a

10:56

non-profit project for them the

10:58

condition is trombosis uh by the way

11:01

that was uh that was happening but

11:03

anyway uh the death rate for johnson and

11:05

johnson was still uh per 1 million doses

11:08

was 0.57

11:10

which is higher than the moderna and

11:13

pfizer there are the myocarditis

11:15

concerns regarding uh

11:18

the modern vaccine especially in younger

11:20

males however none of those have been

11:22

linked to a death and uh almost all of

11:25

them

11:26

recovered naturally without treatment

11:29

there were a few more severe cases that

11:31

took longer for individuals to recover

11:34

from we covered that and and cited

11:37

citations for this in uh in a report

11:39

just a few days ago now the fda also

11:42

says uh the currently available evidence

11:44

supports this casual relationship

11:45

between thrombosis and the johnson

11:47

vaccine uh now it's worth noting that

11:50

the side effects listed by the cdc do

11:51

not include uh thrombosis uh anyway now

11:55

i know a lot of people don't like dr

11:57

fauci but dr fauci did mention that some

11:59

rapid home tests uh are apparently not

12:01

as accurate as the pcr test right now

12:03

the pcr tests are still the gold

12:05

standard so if you get a negative

12:07

at-home test some of the at-home tests

12:09

are not functioning as well as they

12:10

should this is obviously uh not ideal

12:13

but

12:14

that that is seen as an issue at the

12:16

moment we do also have some

12:18

miscellaneous quotes here that are just

12:19

worth noting uh eric topol dr eric topal

12:22

mentions the concern here really is for

12:24

a lot of folks is getting long coveted

12:26

and then there is a professor who argues

12:28

that a lot of the projections for kovitz

12:31

trajectory are being overblown to keep

12:33

people fearful and at home but at least

12:36

at the moment we are noticing mobility

12:37

decline substantially in the uk and in

12:40

new york and we could expect mobility

12:42

and increased uh work from home to uh to

12:45

affect gdp and unfortunately the stock

12:47

market but also obviously people's lives

12:49

who are getting sick so uh do your best

12:51

stay safe and

12:53

folks thank you so much for watching

12:54

this video if you found this helpful

12:55

found any information that is useful

12:57

consider sharing the video and i

12:59

appreciate your support as always we'll

13:00

see in the next one goodbye
