If You Can’t Cry Anymore, This Is Why
FULL TRANSCRIPT
People who don't cry are not
emotionless. They aren't stonehearted.
There's a reason why they don't cry.
See, when you feel strong emotions like
uh fear, sadness, anger, your amygdala,
the brain's emotional processor, it
reacts immediately. And if the emotion
is too intense, it signals the
hypothalamus, the part of your brain
that controls your body's physical
response. Now, think of your emotions
like steam in a pressure cooker. When
the pressure builds up, the hypothalamus
releases it through physical reactions
like a racing heart, tight chest or
tears. Crying is how your brain
regulates emotional overload. But not
everyone's brain works this way. If you
have been taught to suppress emotions
through trauma, strict upbringing or
constant stress, your prefrontal cortex,
the logical part of your brain, learns
to block the response. That is before
the amygdala can even send the distress
signal to hypothalamus the prefrontal
cortex stops it. No signal is equal to
no tears. And that's why some people
don't cry. But that doesn't mean they
are emotionless. It just means their
brain processes emotions differently.
And that's okay.
