FULL TRANSCRIPT

0:00

hey everyone me kevin here proponents of

0:01

immigration change in the united states

0:04

just got dealt a massive blow as part of

0:07

the three and a half trillion dollar

0:09

infrastructure package now just to

0:11

preface many of you know before i

0:12

announce this news here many of you know

0:14

that as part of my campaign in

0:16

california for governor which was

0:18

unsuccessful sadly as part of the

0:19

campaign i was suggesting that hey one

0:22

of the reasons we have a horrible

0:24

illegal immigration problem is because

0:26

our legal immigration process sucks you

0:30

need a lot of money a lot of time

0:32

attorneys you can only get sponsored by

0:34

companies if you have a certain skill

0:36

set or a certain degree or certain

0:38

profession it is very very difficult so

0:41

for example if i wanted to hire somebody

0:43

right now from new zealand and have them

0:46

work here in california i'd be able to

0:48

provide them housing a job or whatever

0:50

it would be very very difficult to

0:52

actually get them to be here legally

0:54

unless of course they happen to be here

0:56

and then happened to marry an american

0:59

then they'd be able to slip into well

1:01

america pretty much right away which is

1:03

crazy i'm not suggesting people should

1:05

go get married to stay here especially

1:07

since the us government is on that and

1:09

they they actually check and and uh quiz

1:12

people's relationships to make sure

1:14

they're actually having a legitimate uh

1:17

marriage which is crazy uh and then

1:19

there's like this whole industry of kind

1:20

of doing like fake photos for those

1:22

people as well like fake trips and all

1:24

it's like it's nuts

1:26

the reason you have such big problems

1:29

again in illegal immigration is

1:31

literally because the legal immigration

1:33

process is horrible it sucks so as part

1:37

of joe biden's buildback better plan he

1:39

included a pathway to citizenship for

1:41

about 11 uh well we have 11 million

1:44

illegal or undocumented people living in

1:46

america and his pathway to citizenship

1:48

or amnesty would have opened up a door

1:50

for about eight million of them

1:52

including two and a half million working

1:54

women and of course becoming a citizen

1:56

or at least getting a green card gives

1:58

you a social security number it gives

2:00

you the opportunity for better jobs

2:02

schools wealth building opportunities

2:03

lowers the racial wealth gap and sure

2:05

there are some

2:06

undocumented individuals here now who do

2:08

pay their taxes through a taxpayer

2:10

identification number not having a

2:12

social puts a lot of constraints on your

2:13

ability to move up in society especially

2:15

in america so the goal was carving out

2:18

essentially a quote essential critical

2:22

infrastructure workers pathway so you

2:25

would create this new category of

2:26

undocumented workers and as long as you

2:28

were an essential critical

2:29

infrastructure worker like a farm worker

2:32

regular essential worker with a whole

2:34

bunch of categories for these not so

2:35

important right now because the ruling

2:37

that just came out uh those with

2:38

temporary protected status or deferred

2:40

action for childhood arrivals like

2:42

dreamers or daca recipients these folks

2:44

would have all had an opportunity to get

2:46

a green card

2:48

and then after a certain amount of years

2:50

being here with a green card you would

2:51

become a citizen i know that because

2:53

that's exactly what i went through as a

2:55

child but anyway the senate

2:57

parliamentarian elizabeth mcdonagh just

3:00

ruled that the democrats are not going

3:03

to be able to include this immigration

3:05

reform as part of the three and a half

3:07

trillion dollar stimulus package because

3:09

democrats are trying to pass the three

3:10

and a half trillion dollar stimulus

3:11

package

3:12

via budget reconciliation budget

3:15

reconciliation actually has to

3:16

meaningfully affect the budget and of

3:18

course the democrats argued well i will

3:20

it's gonna add about 137 billion dollars

3:23

to our deficit

3:25

see it affects the budget and of course

3:27

there was a positive argument as well

3:29

that hey look if we have a bunch more

3:31

legal americans

3:33

with green cards or citizenship

3:35

we might actually be able to grow our

3:36

gdp by one and a half trillion dollars

3:38

over a decade and that reforms could

3:40

potentially add 150 billion dollars in

3:44

spending

3:45

which of course when you spend 150

3:47

billion dollars we have the velocity of

3:48

money and this is how you can raise your

3:50

gdp by a larger number like one and a

3:52

half trillion over 10 years right and so

3:55

the idea was look it does affect the

3:57

budget because immediately it's going to

3:59

hurt our budget by 137

4:01

billion dollars but in the future it'll

4:04

make us some money back and kind of like

4:05

be like making an investment personally

4:08

i kind of agree i mean more people you

4:11

have that are actually capable of

4:12

operating in society then generally the

4:15

more you can grow your economy the

4:16

problem is really though a question of

4:18

fairness should somebody who came here

4:20

illegally and sort of worked under uh

4:23

the covers of the existing broken

4:25

immigration system we have be able to

4:27

get a pathway to legal citizenship or

4:30

should there be some kind of new

4:32

citizenship option opened up which was

4:34

actually one of the things that i had

4:35

proposed in california that why don't we

4:37

just have a thing where you can apply

4:40

and if you can come and if you could you

4:41

could prove that you can come to america

4:43

from wherever you are you don't already

4:45

have to be here you could already be

4:46

here but it should be fair to everybody

4:47

else outside the country as well right

4:49

like what about the people in brazil who

4:51

want to come here or in germany who want

4:53

to come here or in china kind of want to

4:54

come here whatever who don't have a lot

4:56

of money but can get a job and provide

4:59

value to society why not create some

5:02

kind of option

5:04

for anyone to apply and get a response

5:06

within like two to four weeks as to

5:08

whether or not hey can we come here and

5:09

get you essentially on the path to

5:11

citizenship as long as you come here and

5:12

provide value by providing labor

5:15

essentially and look we need labor here

5:17

people are like no no immigrants

5:19

shouldn't be taking our jobs and i

5:20

understand that argument as well but the

5:22

issue is we have a shortage of

5:24

electricians plumbers contractors we

5:27

have a shortage of nurses we have a

5:29

shortage of farm workers we have a

5:31

shortage of a lot of jobs and sure the

5:34

unemployment rate right now is a little

5:36

bit higher but that's also because a lot

5:37

of people who are unemployed don't have

5:39

the exact skills that we necessarily

5:42

need and so this is where we also open

5:43

up that can of worms of well we should

5:45

probably fix our educational system and

5:47

actually teach careers in financial

5:49

education our schools so that way the

5:51

people who are unemployed here can get

5:53

skilled to provide value and go to work

5:55

but in the meantime you'd think there

5:56

should be some kind of door open for

5:57

people who do have those skills to come

5:59

here and actually work but right now we

6:00

don't have any of that that's why we

6:02

have such a disaster that's why whether

6:04

you're on the left or right whether

6:05

you're for immigration or against

6:06

immigration whether you're for hey kick

6:08

the illegals out or keep the illegals

6:10

here whatever calling him illegal or

6:12

calling him undocumented it doesn't

6:13

matter right this is all just like

6:15

jargon the point is the country's

6:17

literally freaking failing okay our

6:20

schools suck and our immigration process

6:22

sucks if we could agree on those two

6:24

things here then we know those two

6:27

problems create the vast majority of

6:29

issues that we have in our country right

6:30

now specifically around careers

6:32

unemployment education and immigration

6:35

very very big and so anyway this year

6:37

was an attempt to at least get some

6:39

folks on the path to legal uh

6:41

immigration and so of course you've got

6:43

nancy pelosi the white house chuck

6:44

schumer they're all disappointed uh

6:46

chuck schumer says hey look we've had

6:48

people working here who are undocumented

6:50

they put their lives on the line during

6:51

the pandemic and they remain locked out

6:53

of federal assistance for federal help

6:55

whatever

6:56

by the way some versions that have been

6:58

negotiated as well is hey if people are

7:00

going to come here and they want to be

7:01

legal have them waive their right to get

7:03

any kind of social program assistance

7:05

trust me even if you did that you'd have

7:06

plenty of qualified people coming in

7:08

here but yeah look some people do need

7:09

help as well

7:11

and so then it gets to hold that whole

7:12

like a social helping people aspect

7:14

which is like oh my gosh how do you

7:15

balance all the madness right and at the

7:17

moment our government sucks so much they

7:19

can't figure out how to do anything

7:20

budget reconciliation was clearly not

7:23

the way though because as mcdonough said

7:25

quote such a change would far outweigh

7:28

the budgetary impact scored to it and is

7:30

not appropriate for inclusion and

7:31

reconciliation and essentially

7:34

she mentions or what she's trying to

7:36

convey

7:37

is look if you're gonna do immigration

7:39

reform don't just try to slide it in

7:42

for one group of people and pretend that

7:44

it's for the budget if you're going to

7:46

do an immigration bill how about you

7:48

work with republicans you work together

7:50

in a bipartisan manner to get the 60

7:52

votes that you need in the senate and

7:53

you actually do a real large immigration

7:56

reform package rather than trying to

7:58

squeeze immigration reform as sort of a

8:00

you know line item into a larger

8:03

infrastructure bill even though it is

8:04

social infrastructure like the child tax

8:06

credit and taxation and so on so forth

8:08

so overall

8:10

big blow to advocates of immigration uh

8:13

personally i am a fan of big immigration

8:16

reform and i think we need it but i

8:18

think that door should be opened up

8:19

fairly and equally for everyone again

8:22

like if you could come here and provide

8:23

value prove you can get a job and not

8:25

use social services that tour should be

8:27

wide open for people it's slammed shut

8:29

right now in the meantime our schools

8:31

suck and our existing immigration

8:32

process is horrible and so you have

8:34

states like california where if you are

8:36

undocumented you can

8:38

you can get a lot of benefits like in

8:39

some cases you can get full medical care

8:42

you can get other bet there there's so

8:44

much of a mess happening it's not even

8:45

worth going down that road right now

8:47

but this is also renewing calls again

8:49

for ending the filibuster which

8:51

democrats will not end the filibuster

8:53

it's just a great kind of way to kick

8:55

and scream over we're frustrated we want

8:57

the filibuster ended so we could pass

8:59

whatever laws we want uh with just 51

9:01

votes which would be 50 democrats in the

9:03

senate plus kamal harris i do not see

9:05

the filibuster ending anytime soon

9:07

because if they got rid of the

9:08

filibuster then

9:10

and then let's say republicans took

9:12

power they would just undo literally

9:14

everything and they would have just as

9:15

much of a field day but it would go in

9:16

the opposite direction right so

9:18

that's where democrats and republicans

9:20

at least the higher up ones have kind of

9:21

come to that acceptance then yeah we're

9:24

not gonna end the filibuster this is why

9:26

you don't really hear nancy pelosi chuck

9:27

schumer or joe biden talking about

9:28

ending the filibuster it's just

9:30

something that's really popular for

9:31

other individuals to talk about so i

9:33

don't think the filibuster is going

9:34

anywhere but anyway this kind of gives

9:35

you an

9:36

update that bottom line out of all this

9:38

the immigration portion the path to

9:40

citizenship for those who are here and

9:41

undocumented dead gone not going to be

9:45

included in this and uh you know if

9:47

democrats want to get something done

9:48

they've got about a year and a couple

9:50

months to get it done uh before we've

9:52

got those 2022 elections coming up and i

9:55

expect uh

9:56

i expect biden's going to have a lot of

9:58

work to do to cling onto power

10:00

because you've got full democrat control

10:02

right now right house presidency and

10:04

senate and we've got some really close

10:07

margins there in the house and senate so

10:08

no matter which side you're on 2022 is

10:10

going to be a race to watch we obviously

10:12

also expect donald trump to be heavily

10:13

involved in it but we'll see what

10:15

happens uh the next presidential

10:17

election isn't until 2024 but obviously

10:19

donald trump if if he is going to run in

10:21

24 which we expect would be heavily

10:24

inclined to uh help bolster

10:27

the odds of uh more republicans winning

10:30

in 2022 which could strip a lot of power

10:32

from biden again in as little as a year

10:35

and a half so uh we'll see what happens

10:37

i'm not really taking a side on the damn

10:39

verse rupp hub issue i think i'm pretty

10:42

neutral with my immigration comments as

10:44

well because i quite frankly think we

10:46

can probably 95 of us agree with what i

10:48

said but we'll see i'll i'll hear from

10:50

you in the comments like i always do

10:52

which i appreciate it's good i like to

10:53

hear what everybody else thinks but

10:54

anyway i just want to give you this

10:56

update thank you so much for watching i

10:57

forgot to pitch something in this video

10:59

ah oh well you know where the links are

11:01

thanks folks we'll see you bye
