I’m Nervous | What Biden JUST Said about Afghanistan
FULL TRANSCRIPT
hey everyone me kevin here so i've been
very closely following what's happening
in afghanistan because i think the power
vacuum that we're seeing in the rapid
collapse of afghanistan's government
that we're seeing could have long tail
implications for even the united states
stock market but even our security at
home we now literally have the taliban
in control of all of the weaponry
aircraft missiles drones everything that
we have basically armed the afghani
military with over the last 20 years
this is scary that's why this is such
big news but here's joe biden's response
so i'm going to give you a summary of
what joe biden just said so joe biden
came out and said we're closely
monitoring the situation he says we are
seeing a rapid collapse in afghanistan
but we have to remember the mission as
to why we went to afghanistan we went
there to punish the bad guys who hit us
on 9 11. he got osama a decade ago and
he says that the goal was never to build
a nation in afghanistan or to make
democracy work in afghanistan he says
that's on the afghans to figure out not
us that our goal is to prevent an attack
and that we have to focus on the threats
we face today
not from excuse me not from 20 years ago
then
biden says and this is sort of his way i
think of trying to reassure americans he
says our focus is going to be to
focus our attention on counterterrorism
so that we can act quickly and
decisively and we're not going to bring
our troops into a third decade of
conflict in afghanistan there's
something we need to respond to we're
going to respond to this personally i
don't know if that really calms people's
fears down but let's keep going here he
says he stands squarely behind his
decision to withdraw obviously he's
getting a lot of flack right now for
having withdrawn i mean if you think
about it there were 2500 american troops
there things were stable now we've got
six to seven thousand troops there just
to try to evacuate people and we've got
an entire country with weaponry now in
the hands of the taliban
joe biden says this unfolded quicker
than expected and he responded to
complaints that well why didn't you
start responding sooner he responded to
complaints by this or of this by saying
well here's the thing if we started
evacuating folks sooner the afghani
government was worried that that was
going to lead to a lack of confidence in
the afghani government and would have
just led to the exodus happening anyway
joe biden again goes on to say that uh
this happened much faster than expected
everything's rapidly devolving he says
that afghani political leaders gave up
and the military collapsed without even
trying to fight which is kind of crazy
because he goes on to say we trained and
equipped a 300 000 member force in
afghanistan bigger than some of our nato
allies he says we gave them every tool
we paid their salaries we maintained
their air force and yet the one thing we
couldn't give them was the willpower to
actually stand and fight i have to say
he's kind of right about that i mean he
kind of didn't try which is kind of
concerning too because it's like wait a
minute really america spent 20 years
building a military there and they
wouldn't stand and fight
it's scary but anyway and now all those
weapons are in the hands of the taliban
moving on
uh joe biden
and this is kind of an interesting take
mostly because i i think china and
russia are already building relations
with the taliban we know this they are
and he kind of twisted this around a
little bit joe biden said says that
china and russia would love nothing more
than the united states still being in
afghanistan
i don't know if i fully agree with that
i feel like getting the united states
out of afghanistan is actually good for
china and russia because it lets them
take more control but okay
joe biden does go on to say that how
many more american lives is fighting for
the afghanis worth how many more
american headstones is it going to take
ultimately we can speak out for afghanis
but we can't fight for them so he's
really taking this defensive posture of
hey look i stand behind the fact that we
withdrew the 2500 troops that we had
left in april may we took them out
and yeah now we have to go back in to
provide evacuation services and
protective services for ngos and for uh
news media or or even just to control
the airport which is a disaster people
are climbing on airplanes and falling to
their death as airplanes are taking off
where they're getting run over on the
airport i mean this is a scene straight
out of a movie it's it's absolutely
ridiculous what's happening right there
but anyway uh you've got joe biden
you're really saying look the right
decision for america is dealing with
threats as they pop up
personally and this is just my opinion
i'm concerned i'm concerned that you've
got the taliban now essentially setting
up an entire country
and they have enough weapons
for an army of 300 000 people personally
i think the last thing you want to do is
create a power vacuum like we did it's
my personal opinion kind of don't
understand how we're going to pinpoint
target eliminate or combat uh potential
issues that come up with the taliban i
guess we'll see what happens with
counterterrorism wise but we've also i
don't know that really had a full
country of potential uh terrorist
threats outside of say uh iranian
threats or north korean threats so this
this really elevates things a little bit
in my opinion joe biden says his
decisions were the right decision for
america i want to hear from you were
these the right decisions at the end of
his speech joe biden did not take any
questions from the media the media
essentially lost it when he just walked
out which well a lot of people was a lot
of questions so we'll see how this
unfolds personally it makes me nervous
not very happy about what's going on
obviously my heart goes out to not just
the people of afghanistan but also the
women who have created careers in
afghanistan who are now shelving their
careers and and hiding in fear along
with everybody else in afghanistan so
it's a terrible situation something that
we have to pay attention to this is
going to have global consequences over
the 2020s so we'll pay attention to this
thank you so much for watching make sure
