0:00

Hey everyone, welcome back to the

0:01

channel. If you're anything like me, you

0:03

love your watches. But over time, from

0:06

daily wear and tear, they start to look

0:08

a little too worn. This is my Seikko

0:11

SRP. Over time, the polished sides have

0:14

dulled and the bezel has gained a few

0:16

war wounds. Now, don't get me wrong, I

0:18

do love worn watches. I would much

0:20

rather see a watch with some signs of

0:22

use than ones that's been kept in a box

0:24

its whole life. Marks are a sign of a

0:26

watch's life. I would never dream of

0:28

polishing my father's toes, for example.

0:31

The marks are signs of the life the

0:33

watch led while on his wrist. But if you

0:35

do have any scratches or marks you want

0:37

to polish out, you don't have to live

0:39

with them. Today, I'm going to show you

0:41

exactly how to tackle those scratches

0:43

and bring the brilliant shine back to

0:46

your watches using a product that's

0:48

trusted by watch collectors worldwide,

0:50

the Cape Cod watch polishing cloth. It's

0:53

a simple process you can do at home and

0:55

by the end of this video, your watch

0:56

will look a whole lot closer to new. The

0:59

Cape Cod tagline written on every one of

1:01

their products is everything is new

1:03

again. So, let's see if they live up to

1:05

that. Before you start, let's quickly

1:08

look at the Cape Cod cloths themselves.

1:10

They come in a few convenient options

1:12

depending on your needs. The twin pack

1:14

is ideal for a quick fix or firsttime

1:17

user and comes with two polishing

1:19

cloths. The polishing tin kit is a

1:21

complete set coming with 12 cloths, a

1:24

buffing cloth, and gloves. And finally,

1:27

the industrialsiz tin kit, which is for

1:29

a serious collector with lots of

1:31

polishing to do. The important thing is

1:33

that the paint cloths inside all these

1:35

kits are the same, premoistened with the

1:38

famous polishing formula, and are ready

1:40

to go. The only exception is the cloths

1:42

in the industrial kit are much larger.

1:45

The first step is to protect your watch.

1:48

We want to protect the parts that you

1:50

don't want to polish, like the crystal

1:52

or any brushed surfaces on the case.

1:54

Remember, Cape Cod is only for polished

1:56

surfaces. To do this, we like to use

1:59

small pieces of painters tape cut and

2:01

stuck over the areas we don't want to

2:03

polish. This simple masking step is

2:06

crucial for maintaining the finish of

2:08

your watch. So, make sure to take your

2:10

time here. Now, it's time to get started

2:13

by applying the polish. The key here is

2:16

to use gentle pressure and a smooth

2:18

motion. You will start to see the cloth

2:21

turn dark as the formula works to remove

2:23

the microscopically thin layer of metal

2:26

containing the scratch. Work on the

2:28

affected area for about 30 seconds to a

2:30

minute, checking your progress as you

2:32

go. Make sure not to overwork the metal.

2:35

So once you're ready and once all the

2:37

scratches are gone or significantly

2:39

reduced, take the clean white buffing

2:41

cloth that comes with the kit or a

2:44

dedicated microfiber cloth and wipe away

2:46

any dark residue. It's important to buff

2:49

off the polish while it's still wet.

2:51

Don't leave the residue to dry and never

2:54

wash it away. The polish must be buffed

2:56

out. Then carefully peel away the tape

2:59

and you're done. And now look at that

3:01

transformation. The shine is back. Those

3:04

distracting hairline scratches have been

3:06

dramatically reduced and most of them

3:08

are completely gone. You can repeat this

3:10

more as needed, but for most surface

3:12

marks, one good pass is usually enough.

3:15

I am honestly so pleased with these

3:17

results. My Seikko is back to its

3:19

brilliantly reflective best, and that

3:21

scratch on the bezel is no longer there

3:23

to catch the light. But before you go,

3:25

here's a few things to remember when

3:27

using Cape Cod. The cloths are not one

3:29

hit wonders. They can be used over and

3:32

over again until they essentially

3:34

disintegrate from being used too much.

3:36

If your polishing cloth does dry out,

3:38

simply add a few drops of mineral oil to

3:41

revitalize it, and keep them in the tin

3:43

or foil pouch when they're not in use.

3:45

Cape Cod isn't just for watches, either.

3:47

It can be used on anything you want to

3:49

bring the shine back to. You can use it

3:51

to transform most polished fine metals,

3:53

including silver and gold, amongst

3:55

others. So, there you have it. a quick,

3:58

effective way to bring your favorite

3:59

watches back to life. If you found this

4:01

guide helpful, please hit that like

4:03

button and subscribe for more watch

4:05

content. And let me know in the comments

4:07

what you'd like to learn next. Thanks

4:09

for watching. I'll see you next time.
