0:00

well it's official we have the new Mitch

0:02

McConnell and the new Chuck Schumer and

0:05

his name is John Thon John Thon will be

0:08

the leader of the Senate and a majority

0:11

leader and what I'd like to do is give

0:13

you a quick primer of what his goals are

0:15

as initiatives on

0:17

deregulation tax cuts what implications

0:20

he's going to have for you as an

0:23

American so without further Ado let's

0:26

get right into it speaker or not speaker

0:29

rather majority leader John th just got

0:32

elected VI a secret ballot little bit of

0:34

background on him he was born in

0:36

1961 and when he was about 22 years old

0:40

he graduated college at 23 years old he

0:43

got his MBA yeah I know it's like a year

0:45

year and a half later uh and so he

0:47

graduated in 1984 then he went right

0:51

into working for a senator as an aid in

0:53

85 which basically means he spent his

0:56

entire career he's like 63 now in

0:59

politics uh at one point or at least in

1:01

government at one point he worked as a

1:03

director for the state Railroad in South

1:06

Dakota in 1996 so about 11 years after

1:09

he graduated with his uh or uh about 12

1:12

years after he graduated with his NBA he

1:14

ran for uh US House of Representatives

1:16

he ended up getting that seat in '96 9

1:19

years later became a senator he's been a

1:22

chair of the Republican policy committee

1:24

he's been a senate majority whip uh that

1:26

was from 2019 through 2021 so basically

1:30

during that first wave there of co uh

1:32

since Democrats had you know power at

1:34

one point he's been a minority whip

1:36

during that term whips are basically

1:39

people who quote unquote whip up votes

1:42

to try to pass bills hey do we have

1:43

enough what do you need what do you need

1:45

okay you'll vote Yes if I give you this

1:46

all right let me see what I can do you

1:48

know you're basically trying to

1:49

negotiate a little ear marks if you will

1:51

into packages but anyway he's been

1:53

trying to replace Mitch McConnell since

1:55

March and it finally happened uh you got

1:59

SC that got the boot and you got John th

2:02

in he's an Evangelical again he's from

2:04

South Dakota he's a senator at one point

2:06

people were thinking that he was going

2:07

to be a vice presidential pick for John

2:10

McCain who remembers McCain and then

2:12

McCain's like all right John Thun I pick

2:16

Sarah

2:18

Palin okay uh but anyway let's go ahead

2:21

and listen to what he says in terms of

2:25

policy priorities right now which I

2:28

think is useful to look yeah because

2:30

you're not only going to get to see his

2:32

face but you're going to get to see how

2:33

he talks how he cares himself I

2:36

personally think he comes across as a

2:38

reasonable politician uh you know it's

2:41

still a politician obviously so you know

2:44

maybe there's like an irony in saying

2:46

reasonable politician but hey you know

2:47

what you got to do with what you got to

2:49

do or with what you got and butchered

2:53

that whatever if if if you were worried

2:55

about

2:56

butchering make sure to get life

2:58

insurance in as little as 5 minutes

2:59

minutes okay you can get it by signing

3:01

up for metkevin.com lifee it's a paid

3:04

promotion on the channel and you can get

3:05

it within as little as 5 minutes and

3:07

Apple pay or Android pay for it all

3:08

right let's get into this oh uh oh

3:10

quickly also if you want free stocks if

3:12

you're ever trading metkevin.com Weeble

3:14

it's where I um put all the lines I'll

3:17

link both of these down below they're

3:18

both paid promotions all right with that

3:19

said let's get into this hold the house

3:20

obviously we have a legislative vehicle

3:22

available to us called budget recation

3:24

the my bad I have it on uh 2x speed

3:28

because that's how I often listen to

3:29

things but that's not going to work well

3:31

if uh you're on 2x as well cuz then it's

3:33

4X legislative vehicle available to us

3:36

called budget reconciliation which the

3:38

Democrats use extensively uh when they

3:41

had all three but when you have unified

3:42

control of government it gives you an

3:44

opportunity to do some things obviously

3:46

we've got to extend the TR Trump tax

3:47

cuts which if we don't ends up being a

3:49

$4 trillion doll tax increase on the

3:51

economy and almost keep keep that in

3:53

mind by the way it's extremely common

3:56

for Republicans to pass tax cuts that

3:59

have sort of an expiration but then if

4:02

Republicans have power again in the

4:03

future they they want to renew those tax

4:05

cuts because otherwise it turns into a

4:08

tax increase so in this is why they say

4:11

like nothing in government is ever

4:14

temporary because basically the way it

4:16

works is like you pass tax cuts under

4:20

the argument or premise that they're

4:22

going to be temporary but then when they

4:25

come up for expiration you're like oh we

4:27

better extend these because otherwise

4:28

we're increasing taxes it's like no you

4:30

cut taxes for 5 Years or or you know

4:33

whatever it is 7 years you cut taxes for

4:36

7 years that was the tax cut yeah yeah

4:38

yeah but now it's expiring it's going to

4:40

go up again that's a tax increase we

4:41

don't want that I mean look don't get me

4:43

wrong I'm all for you know lower taxes

4:45

but that's quick way this sort of works

4:48

this is why you'll often also get

4:49

Republicans that extend Democratic

4:52

initiatives as well so for example if uh

4:56

like I kind of speculate that they might

4:58

not get rid of all of the tax credits

5:00

that Democrats passed for even electric

5:02

vehicles and otherwise because oh now

5:04

you're making cars more expensive you're

5:05

causing inflation unless you extend the

5:07

expiration it's crazy $2,000 per average

5:10

family in this country uh I think energy

5:13

policy I think border policy uh you know

5:16

if you look at the economic agenda it's

5:17

also a regulatory and the cost of

5:20

regulation's been $1.8 trillion since

5:22

Biden Harris took office so lighter

5:25

touch on regulations uh again extending

5:27

the tax policy bonus depreciation

5:29

interest deductibility R&D expensing the

5:32

things that get you the big growth in

5:33

the economy we need progrowth policies

5:36

on the economy and then we've got always

5:38

got to be paying attention to what's

5:40

happening with respect to National

5:41

Security uh because we live in a very

5:44

dangerous world so I think those issues

5:46

are going to be front and center and if

5:47

we have unified control of the

5:49

government we're in a much better

5:50

position to to enact an agenda that that

5:53

is consistent with accomplishing those

5:55

goals might be so there you go that this

5:58

sort of gives you a quick little outline

5:59

of what Jon thun's priorities are where

6:02

his head is as you can see levelheaded

6:04

person this was film that was by the way

6:06

at like 5:00 a.m. a few days ago I

6:08

watched it live when it happened uh and

6:10

I that's why I wanted to bring this clip

6:12

up I wanted to introduce you to him in

6:13

case you're not familiar with him this

6:14

is basically your new Mitch McConnell

6:16

now why does why do they matter well

6:18

they matter because like even if you

6:20

have a republican Coalition that wants

6:22

to bring a bill up the leader could if

6:25

they want just sit on it and never bring

6:27

a bill up to vote you remember that with

6:29

Mitch m during Co and everybody was

6:31

worried about inflation I mean

6:32

rightfully so right but this is their

6:35

job and they also work to negotiate

6:38

legislation they're really big part of

6:42

frankly what you could call sort of the

6:44

broader envelope of the Trump

6:45

Administration for getting policy and

6:47

priorities through because without then

6:49

them you just can't get anything done in

6:52

Congress it's already hard enough to get

6:54

things done but they're very important

6:56

uh and they're right there with sort of

6:57

the Speaker of House uh speaker of the

6:59

house uh and so we'll see how uh how

7:02

things here move on getting these

7:04

policies implemented and introduced I'm

7:06

excited to see it also excited to see

7:08

how they use budget reconciliation

7:09

remember usually in order to pass a bill

7:11

in the Senate you need 60 votes but

7:14

Republicans don't have 60 votes now they

7:17

could pass things with 50 plus one a

7:19

simple majority if they call it budget

7:23

reconciliation but there are rules

7:26

around budget reconciliation like the

7:28

bird rule which says hey you know it has

7:30

to actually relate to revenues or the

7:34

budget or taxes and so then what happens

7:37

is you usually get a big budget Bill

7:39

everybody tries to hook everything onto

7:41

and then somebody goes through usually

7:42

the parliamentarian and goes nah we

7:44

can't we can't hook that onto this we

7:45

can't hook that onto this okay we could

7:47

hook this on anyway these are all very

7:50

important things you know what is

7:51

actually interesting is I wonder who

7:53

picks the parliamentarian let's do a

7:56

really quick look who picks the Senate

8:00

parliamentarian it's a funny word that

8:02

you have to spell ah often chosen by the

8:07

Senate Majority Leader so that's

8:10

actually a really big deal because that

8:12

means th has potential control over who

8:15

that person is and that matters because

8:18

it would give them greater guidance and

8:21

flexibility on what kind of priorities

8:25

can they pass with just 51 votes this is

8:28

why he already references oh Democrats

8:30

use it all the time he's basically

8:33

saying now it's my

8:36

turn I don't blame him either that's how

8:38

the game's played so good on you man all

8:41

right all right so there you have it

8:43

anyway John th for yall congratulations

8:46

8:48

things that you told us here I feel like

8:49
