1999-2004 Mustang Pypes Exhaust Hanger Kit Review

The Pypes exhaust hanger kit is available for any 1999 to 2004 Mustang owner who is

looking to replace the rusted or worn-out factory hangers in order to safely hang their

exhaust.

It's also a perfect match for any V6 owner looking to convert to a true dual-exhaust,

in which case these will be required.

This set is inexpensive at about $50 for what you see here.

The install is just a few bolts, so expect one out of three wrenches on our difficulty

meter, which I'll touch on more later in the video.

The New Edge Mustangs are quickly closing in on two decades old.

So naturally, the stock materials under the body will start to need some TLC.

One of the things that tends to rust out first is going to be the exhaust hangers and isolators.

After so many years of holding up the exhaust and muffler rods, it's just bound to happen.

The worst scenario is to have them finally give out when you're driving on a highway.

So you want to make sure you have a reliable replacement before that time comes.

If you're looking to pick up an aftermarket exhaust, to beef up the sound, and have a

little more fun with your Mustang, it's always a good idea to grab some new hangers, since

you'll be down there doing the exhaust work anyway.

If your Mustang has got a single exhaust, essentially, V6 models, then you might be

considering picking up a true dual conversion.

If that's the case, then you'll absolutely need to get a set of exhaust hangers like

these for the opposite side in order to hold up the new pipes.

This will do the trick, and the kit offers everything you need in one convenient package.

These are made from a high-quality 304 stainless steel, which is super rust and corrosion-resistant,

great for the guys located in wintery weather areas who see a lot of road salt.

The grommets, exhaust strap isolators, as well as the tieback bolts are all included,

all made of top-quality materials, unlike the factory stuff that falls apart faster.

You can pick up everything I just mentioned for between $50 and $60, which I think is

totally worth it if you need to pick up a replacement.

Grabbing a single hanger replacement from Pep Boys or Autozone, or your local auto parts

store, can run you about $40 in some cases just for a single one.

So this is all around just a better deal.

The installation, as you can imagine, is pretty straightforward.

All you need is a jack and jack stands, as well as a ratchet and socket set for the bolts.

It should take about 30 minutes or so from start to finish.

We give it a one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter.

You first want to get the car in the air and support it on jack stands.

Next, I would place a jack underneath the exhaust where the first hanger needs to be

replaced.

This way, when you pull the hanger off of the isolator, the exhaust just won't drop

down to the ground.

From here, you'll need to pull the rod out of the isolator, and unbolt the hanger from

the body of the car using your socket set and your ratchet.

Pick up the new hanger and isolator assembly from the kit, and bolt it down the same way

the stock one was in the factory location.

Slip the exhaust hanger rod into place and repeat for the next one, and you're good to

go.
