0:00

- Oh, I got to climb up this ladder.

0:01

So wish me luck.

0:02

(upbeat music)

0:07

I find myself up on the roof,

0:09

without Phil.

0:10

He is inside tending to an elbow,

0:13

that he recently had surgery on.

0:15

And I came up to fix the air conditioner.

0:17

That's right, the AC went out.

0:19

Of course, at the worst time.

0:21

Right as Phil had his surgery on his elbow.

0:23

So, he can't climb up,

0:24

'cause he can't use his right arm at all.

0:26

But, luckily it's something really simple.

0:29

I'm gonna replace,

0:30

this squirrel cage or whatever they call it.

0:33

It looks more like a hamster wheel to me.

0:35

So, we actually did come up here the day

0:37

before Phil's surgery and we checked it out

0:39

to make sure this is what the problem was.

0:41

So, I pre-staged a little bit

0:42

because we didn't put all the screws back in.

0:44

(upbeat music)

1:02

All right, so I have all the lids off,

1:04

but I'm going to bring you over.

1:05

So, you can kind of see what I'm looking at here.

1:08

Now, when this plastic piece,

1:10

the hamster wheel,

1:11

squirrel cage,

1:12

whatever you want to call it breaks.

1:13

And when it spins with the AC on,

1:16

what happens is the centrifugal force

1:18

will pull the outsides out.

1:19

And it will make a loud clanging noise,

1:22

when you turn on the air conditioner.

1:23

And that's one clue, that this is one of the problems.

1:26

So, this is just a cheap plastic.

1:27

So, they do break down.

1:29

And the only thing you have to remember is

1:31

to make sure the direction of the,

1:33

this wheel goes in the same direction

1:35

as the one you're pulling out.

1:36

So, the air moves in the same direction.

1:38

But it's just one screw, as you can see right in the center.

1:40

I'm just going to take it out and replace it.

1:42

(upbeat music)

1:45

All right, that's it, it's in.

1:46

Now, I just got to put it back together.

1:48

(upbeat music)

2:08

That's it, that's all I had do.

2:09

And now we are gonna go crank up the AC because,

2:13

we are in Texas and it's gonna be over 90 today.

2:16

We're back inside,

2:17

and I got a little dirty today,

2:18

so I did my good deed.

2:20

- Yeah, she had to pick up the slack for me today.

2:22

I felt, I felt,

2:22

I really felt bad because I really wanted to get it done.

2:25

And I didn't want her to have to do it.

2:26

Not that she couldn't do it.

2:28

It just,

2:28

it's supposed to be my job.

2:30

- It's a man thing.

2:31

It's a man thing.

2:31

It's pride.

2:32

- She does all the videoing.

2:33

I do all the maintenance, and that's our,

2:34

our agreement, slash partnership.

2:36

We're gonna turn it on here,

2:37

I know it's fine.

2:38

- And, there we go it's on.

2:39

- So, what you didn't get to hear was

2:41

the big loud thud that came on,

2:44

when we turned it on the other day.

2:46

We just forgot to record that part.

2:48

But, as soon as we turned it on

2:50

and I heard that the thud, thud,

2:51

the big clanking sound

2:53

I knew exactly what it was.

2:54

Just from

2:55

reading different forums,

2:57

and other YouTubers talking about the loud noise

3:00

in their AC unit.

3:00

So, - Yeah.

3:01

- It was really,

3:03

just a matter of finding who had it here in town,

3:06

to get it.

3:07

So, we did find it locally.

3:08

Well, it was about probably 30 minutes away.

3:10

- Yeah, it wasn't too bad.

3:11

- And unfortunately,

3:12

Stacy had to go pick it up

3:13

the day that I had my, my surgery.

3:16

So again, I failed in that regard,

3:19

because I was supposed to do that.

3:21

- It's fine.

3:22

I, I can do anything.

3:23

I'm a Navy wife. - No she, she can.

3:25

- I am totally capable.

3:26

- She can, it's just that,

3:28

you know, that I just feel,

3:29

I just feel like I should be doing all of this.

3:32

And all the maintenance,

3:34

and I just can't right now.

3:35

So, you're going to see a lot more of Stacy

3:37

doing maintenance, I can tell you that.

3:38

- So, this just goes to show for all those ladies out there,

3:41

who are nervous about going solo.

3:43

There are a ton of solo women out there,

3:45

and they do all this stuff on their own.

3:47

So, it can be done.

3:48

Don't be afraid,

3:49

and, don't be surprised if you see my hands dirty

3:52

in the upcoming weeks.

3:53

Because, - Yeah.

3:54

- Phil has more procedures on the way.

3:56

Our original plan had me doing all the maintenance,

3:59

all by myself.

4:00

- Dang it,

4:01

now, I've gotta help. (Phil chuckles)

4:02

I'm still limited ,

4:03

with my arm, my elbow.

4:05

So, I'm going to do

4:06

what I can but she's gonna do most of it.

4:09

- Yeah, and we also had,

4:10

one of Phil's surgeries got pushed back.

4:12

So, we thought by now,

4:14

he was going to be totally out.

4:16

But we have another week or so,

4:19

before that's going to happen.

4:20

So, I got to get as much done as I can,

4:22

with his help before then.

4:23

- Yeah, so the shoulder's already torn.

4:25

So, let's just,

4:26

just rip the rest of it off why don't we?

4:28

(laughter)

4:29

- Like a band-aid.

4:30

- Yeah.

4:31

The good things about having a pressure regulator.

4:32

Is you can add a Y gate.

4:34

The Y gate, allows me to have my city water hooked up

4:37

full time and then have an extra spigot to,

4:40

attach a hose to wash the rig.

4:42

Now, this pressure regulator that we have now,

4:44

is far better than the one we started out with.

4:46

It wasn't brass,

4:47

it wasn't as durable as this one.

4:49

This one's been really good,

4:51

and it's adjustable.

4:52

(upbeat music)

5:04

- All right, that job's finished.

5:05

- Yeah, we're done.

5:06

And luckily we started when we did,

5:07

the clouds were a good cover,

5:09

until they weren't.

5:10

(laughter)

5:11

- Everyone should get on their roof,

5:13

one to clean it and protect it,

5:14

two,

5:15

to look at some of the dicor or,

5:18

you know,

5:19

make sure there's no holes and scrapes.

5:21

And you, you're checkin' for maintenance areas

5:23

that might possibly turn into leaks down the road.

5:25

- Right, and while we were up there Stacy found

5:27

a few spots where the dicor was over some screws,

5:30

and just over time,

5:32

the screws have busted through the dicor.

5:33

So, we've identified a few spots

5:35

that we need to reapply some dicor.

5:37

So,

5:38

I mean, that's one of the reasons why you get up there.

5:40

And while we were up there,

5:41

some folks were walking by and they were like,

5:44

"You're in a place, we'll never be."

5:47

Some folks never get up there. - That's right.

5:48

- So, they have no idea.

5:49

But,

5:51

if you, if you call somebody to come

5:53

and get on your roof and clean it,

5:54

and, or at least inspect it.

5:56

You know, make sure they're a reputable place.

5:59

Make sure they're licensed and insured,

6:01

- Yeah. - And all that stuff,

6:02

- Yeah. - In case they fall.

6:03

But somebody has got to get up there and check it.

6:05

And that'll save you a,

6:06

a ton of headaches down the road later.

6:08

- That's right.

6:09

(upbeat music)

6:13

- And that's how you end, (chuckles)

6:14

a roof-cleaning day.

6:15

- That was pretty awesome.

6:16

- I get questions all the time about how,

6:19

Ruby looks all shiny, all the time.

6:21

Truth be told she doesn't,

6:23

she hasn't had a bath in probably,

6:25

three months, maybe longer.

6:27

She's definitely dirty.

6:28

And yesterday we got up on the roof,

6:29

and washed everything off the roof and down the sides.

6:32

And then she really looked bad.

6:33

I'm using a combination of a white vinegar,

6:35

and Johnson's baby shampoo which Tiffin recommends.

6:39

And I'm using a Lamb's wool sponge,

6:41

so I don't get the swirl marks on the rig.

6:44

Now that I'm done washing,

6:45

I go back over it with the Wash and Wax All.

6:48

And this,

6:49

gets rid of all the water spots and waxes it.

6:51

And it's good for the gel-coated paint and the windows.

6:54

This stuff is really good.

6:55

I put it on with one rag,

6:56

and then I just kind of buff it with drier one.

6:58

And it's perfect.

6:59

The other good thing about the Wash-Wax All is,

7:01

you can use this to maintain your rig,

7:03

after you've cleaned it.

7:04

It doesn't do any good,

7:05

if you've got a lot of mud and dirt accumulated on there,

7:08

'cause then it'll just scratch it.

7:10

So, I always wash it first and then I maintain it,

7:13

in between washes with the Wash-Wax All.

7:15

- I just finished my walk,

7:16

and I thought you'd be interested

7:18

in seeing what Phil's doing today.

7:21

Yesterday, he started cleaning the rig,

7:23

and he didn't quite get it done.

7:25

The sun popped out,

7:26

and it was scorching on this side of the RV.

7:29

So, today he's finishing the driver's side.

7:32

- The good thing with the Wash-Wax All,

7:33

is it gets all the water spots off.

7:34

I do use vinegar,

7:35

in my soap bucket when I'm washing it.

7:39

And it helps some,

7:40

but I still have water spots.

7:41

And it just drives me crazy when I see 'em.

7:43

So, this is a good alternative.

7:44

If you can't get to it right away.

7:46

The other thing, is this space saving ladder that we bought.

7:49

I did have one of the little giants,

7:50

that would break down into an A-frame style ladder.

7:53

And I really do miss that at times,

7:55

but this,

7:56

this ladder is pretty cool.

8:00

Because, it's telescoping,

8:03

telescoping, telescopic,

8:05

and you just hit the button,

8:07

and it comes right back down and you can just adjust it to,

8:12

I think this goes all the way up to 13 feet.

8:14

I had to get a little creative,

8:16

and put some towels on the ends,

8:18

when I'm leaning it on Ruby.

8:19

I don't scratch her delicate paint,

8:22

but this thing has worked out great.

8:23

It's space saving it, ya put in the basement storage.

8:26

And it, it hardly takes up any room.

8:28

- Today's task,

8:29

is maintenance on the hot-water heater.

8:31

The first thing we do,

8:32

is turn it off.

8:33

And I did that already,

8:34

on the inside this morning.

8:36

When we first got up,

8:37

and now I'm gonna turn off the water.

8:39

All right, easy part's over.

8:41

I'm gonna prove to you,

8:42

that doing the maintenance on the hot-water heater,

8:44

is a simple thing to do.

8:53

So, the first thing you're gonna want to do,

8:54

is actually check your hot-water heater.

8:56

To see if you need to change out the anode.

8:59

Now the anode,

9:00

let me show you what it looks like.

9:01

This is the anode that we're going to be changing today.

9:03

It's a steel rod,

9:05

and it attracts all the minerals in the hot-water heater,

9:07

to keep it from corroding and damaging the hot-water heater.

9:10

You're gonna check your hot-water heater,

9:11

and see which manufacturer you have.

9:14

The Suburban hot-water heater is made of steel,

9:16

and requires an anode rod.

9:18

The Atwood manufacturer,

9:20

is a,

9:21

aluminum water heater

9:23

and it actually just has a plastic plug.

9:26

So, if you're not sure which one you have,

9:27

you can check the label on the side.

9:29

And it also says the manufacturer.

9:31

So, that way you'll know,

9:32

if you actually even need to do this.

9:34

If you have an Atwood,

9:35

this is the plug that's going to be plastic.

9:38

So, it's not going to be a metal or steel rod.

9:40

It'll be plastic.

9:41

And you can see that,

9:42

if you look at your hot-water heater.

9:43

Next up,

9:44

I'm going to turn off the power to the water heater.

9:47

And that's just a quick switch.

9:49

Easy done.

9:49

Next step, I need to relieve the pressure

9:51

of the hot-water heater.

9:52

Before I try to take out the anode rod.

9:54

Be careful when you're doing this,

9:56

the water in there may still be hot.

9:57

Even though we turned the hot-water heater off this morning,

10:00

you should probably wear gloves.

10:02

But, I'm going to go ahead and go for it.

10:11

The water's not hot, so I'm good to go.

10:12

Now, we're going to take out the anode rod.

10:18

(groans)

10:20

(ratchet clicking)

10:27

And you can already see all the crud

10:29

that's gonna start pouring out.

10:36

Oh,

10:38

check it out.

10:40

This is the after,

10:41

we did this, what a year ago?

10:43

And this is what it should look like.

10:45

Now, if you're not using your hot-water heater full time,

10:48

you may not have to, to change it out as often.

10:50

But you should definitely check it.

10:52

This anode rod actually has a little bit of life left in it.

10:55

You can see,

10:55

it actually has been doing exactly what it's supposed to do.

10:58

If it looked just like this,

11:00

I would be worried that it wasn't doing its job,

11:02

and there was a problem.

11:03

But since we already are showing you guys the maintenance,

11:06

and we already have a new one,

11:07

we're going to go ahead and ditch this one,

11:08

and switch it out.

11:09

You can see the calcium pouring out,

11:12

of the hot-water heater.

11:13

This is the stuff that, that anode rod is protecting

11:16

the hot water-heater from.

11:17

The water heater has been completely drained.

11:19

So now, I'm going to take this cool little contraption,

11:22

that we acquired after our last time we flushed it out.

11:25

To actually go in,

11:26

and put some pressure in there,

11:27

and flush out any remaining residue of the calcium.

11:31

So, this should be fun.

11:31

Hopefully, I don't take a shower.

11:34

Let's test it first.

11:38

Oh, yeah.

11:46

Oh, yeah.

11:49

All right, I think we're good.

11:50

Next up, is the Teflon tape.

11:52

So, we're going to put this on

11:54

to get a good seal whenever we,

11:56

put the rod back into the hot-water heater.

11:58

Just making sure there's not any debris,

12:00

that would keep it from screwing in tight.

12:02

So, that's all clear.

12:03

Now, I just need to put the new rod in.

12:12

All right, hand tightening.

12:13

Now, we're going to really tighten it up.

12:15

(ratchet clicks)

12:22

All right.

12:22

Now it's in,

12:23

and we are going to fill her up.

12:25

Now the beauty of having that Y-gate

12:27

we talked about yesterday ,

12:28

is I was able to turn off the water to the rig,

12:31

and still have the hose on.

12:32

That way, we could clean it out.

12:34

I forgot to mention,

12:35

make sure you turn off your pressure relief valve,

12:38

before you turn on the water.

12:40

If you don't,

12:41

then you're just going to have water pouring out

12:42

of this area right here.

12:43

So, we had already closed this.

12:45

So, I'm not worried about that.

12:46

The next thing I'm going to do is,

12:48

turn the hot-water heater back on.

12:50

This little button here.

12:52

Of course, one of the last things you're going to do,

12:54

is you're going to watch and make sure this is tight enough.

12:55

So, it's not leaking out.

12:57

So, the hot-water heater is going to start filling back up.

13:00

I'm going to watch this,

13:01

and make sure that it's in snug.

13:03

And then once I know everything's good,

13:05

with the water heater.

13:06

I can turn it back on, on the inside on the panel.

13:10

Of course, all that hard work Phil did cleaning the rig.

13:13

Now I have water spots all over it,

13:14

and he has to do it all over again.

13:16

Whoops.

13:17

Today's RV maintenance,

13:18

is probably the easiest one,

13:20

that I'm gonna be doing by myself.

13:22

(laughs)

13:23

So, this is just the vents.

13:25

So, all I'm going to do,

13:26

is pop out this little vent here,

13:28

and I'm going to take out the filter,

13:30

so we can clean the filters.

13:32

This job is something we normally do,

13:34

or I should say Phil normally does,

13:36

about once a month.

13:38

So, I'm just popping these little tabs off.

13:41

And you can see how dirty and dusty the filter is.

13:44

So, it definitely can impact the quality of your air,

13:46

and the quality of how well your air conditioner is working.

13:50

If that gets too bad,

13:52

and then make sure there's no dirt or grime,

13:54

cobwebs or anything on your vents.

13:56

Give them a little wipe down.

13:57

I am lucky because Phil had bought a second set,

14:00

while we were at the Tiffin service center.

14:03

So, I can go right ahead and put my clean one on the vent.

14:07

And then when we get all finished,

14:08

I will show you how to clean these filters.

14:12

So, let me pop it right back into place.

14:18

Without breaking it.

14:19

'Cause then I would get in big fat trouble.

14:22

(Phil agrees)

14:29

It's really simple,

14:30

pop it right back into place.

14:32

And then we're gonna snap it right back in.

14:34

And because Phil's so anal,

14:36

I'm going to make sure all the lines,

14:38

line up and go in the same direction.

14:41

So, you can see that this is pretty gnarly.

14:43

So, I'm actually just going to wash it with dish soap

14:45

and water in the kitchen sink,

14:47

and then put them in the sun to dry.

14:49

Next up,

14:49

I'm going to check out the washer and dryer.

14:52

So, it's really important to check

14:53

your manufacturer's guidelines,

14:55

your manual and find out what they want you

14:58

to routinely check on.

14:59

So, the first thing I'm going to do,

15:00

is I'm going to look behind the washer and dryer,

15:03

made sure the cords, or I should say the hoses

15:05

aren't coming loose, like the hoses for the water.

15:08

'Cause that would kind of suck if that was,

15:09

you know working its way out of the tube,

15:12

make sure there's no critters back there,

15:13

just nothing's out of the ordinary,

15:16

behind the washer and dryer.

15:17

So, we have a little hole here in our closet,

15:20

so we can take a peek.

15:21

So, let's do that.

15:26

Lemme move off those ties that he has yet to wear,

15:28

since we hit the road.

15:29

But don't worry, they're still here just in case.

15:33

All right, so let's take a peak.

15:34

It is a little dusty back here,

15:36

but not too bad.

15:37

The hoses still look really good.

15:39

They're still soft and flexible.

15:41

There's no cracks in the hose.

15:45

Everything looks,

15:47

pretty good.

15:49

Next up, is the dryer.

15:51

So, I want to go in here and I want to check the vent.

15:54

I want to check down in there for lint.

15:57

You can see,

15:58

on this vent where the lint is actually starting

16:00

to kind of stick,

16:00

that can happen because of the fabric softener.

16:03

Can actually attach to the vent itself.

16:05

So, I'm gonna wash this in the sink with soap and water,

16:07

to help get the fabric softener off of that.

16:09

And that will help.

16:11

And now, I'm gonna check inside the vent for lint.

16:15

Ooh, and there's a lot of lint in here.

16:18

Actually, it's a little frightening

16:19

how much lint is in here.

16:21

Now, this is on our spreadsheet for,

16:24

a checks every six months according to our manufacturer.

16:27

So,

16:29

I am going to get the vacuum cleaner and see how much

16:30

of that lint I can actually get out that way.

16:33

Now, that's a lot better.

16:35

All that's left in, on there is a tiny bit of residue,

16:38

and it was a little frightening

16:39

how much lint was actually in there.

16:41

So,

16:41

last thing I want is a fire in my dryer.

16:44

So next up,

16:45

I'm just going to check all the rubber gaskets here,

16:48

that seal it up.

16:49

And make sure there's no mold,

16:50

no mildew, no dirt.

16:52

Make sure it's all clean.

16:53

Next up, is the washing machine.

16:55

So, the main thing with the washer is you wanna to make sure

16:58

that that water isn't stagnant in your washer.

17:00

Causing smells and dirt and residue behind.

17:03

And that can happen inside the gaskets.

17:05

Oh my gosh,

17:06

This is pretty disgusting.

17:08

So, you would never know that we've ever cleaned this.

17:10

Oh, and you know what?

17:12

There's a hole in this.

17:13

There's a hole in our,

17:14

in these rubber seals.

17:16

I don't know where that water's going

17:17

or if it's getting out.

17:18

There's several layers here.

17:19

So, I don't know if it's getting out,

17:20

but we might need to replace this whole seal part.

17:24

It's pretty disgusting.

17:25

This needs some serious soap and water, and bleach.

17:28

So, I have my rag and I did not put bleach on it.

17:31

I know I just said bleach,

17:32

but I meant vinegar.

17:33

So, it has regular dish soap and vinegar on it.

17:35

'Cause vinegar will kill germs.

17:37

Now, it mainly is just right here on the bottom,

17:39

where water kind of stays stagnant

17:41

and it doesn't all drain out.

17:42

After finding that hole in the washer,

17:44

it makes me a little nervous that water

17:46

might've been leaking out somewhere.

17:47

So, I'm actually going to look underneath washer,

17:50

and make sure there's no signs of

17:53

any water that's leaked or make sure it's not wet.

17:56

Now, especially since we just finished washing

17:58

a load of clothes.

17:59

So, if water was leaking, it would be wet right now.

18:02

Now, another thing that's down here

18:04

that we always check for is our hot-water heater.

18:08

Or water heater for people like Phil,

18:11

to make sure that the plug-in is actually in,

18:14

and nice and secure.

18:16

The first time we opened this up,

18:17

we weren't even looking for that.

18:19

And the plug was halfway out.

18:21

So, make sure you're checking these things routinely.

18:23

'Cause you know, bouncing up and down the road,

18:25

can loosen them out a little bit.

18:27

So, let's take a peek here.

18:29

The plug is nice and snug for the hot-water heater.

18:34

And there is no signs of water.

18:36

I'm gonna look up,

18:38

and make sure there's nothing on that,

18:40

on the wood.

18:43

It is dry.

18:46

It looks really good,

18:47

no evidence of water,

18:48

which is a good thing because,

18:49

there's a ton of wires back here

18:51

going to the hot water heater.

18:52

So, that might've been really bad.

18:54

But everything looks good and I'm going to close it back up.

18:56

Last but not least for the dryer,

18:58

make sure if your dryer is vented,

19:00

you come out and make sure that there's no lint hanging,

19:03

or debris or animals that have clogged your lint,

19:07

out the back of the rig.

19:08

So, I'm going to check that now.

19:14

If something bites me,

19:15

Phil's in big trouble.

19:19

I finished all my chores today.

19:21

So, we thought we reward Gizmo,

19:23

and take him for a nice long walk.

19:25

- Yeah, and there's a spot over here,

19:27

that he,

19:29

can run off the leash.

19:30

So, it's away from the park.

19:32

It's mowed.

19:33

It's not used and it's adjacent to the park,

19:36

and the golf course.

19:37

So, it's win-win for all of us.

19:38

- And of course, Gizmo loves it.

19:40

And he's a little tuckered when we get back.

19:42

(Phil laughs) - Yeah.

19:44

- If you are looking for a spreadsheet,

19:46

for your RV maintenance.

19:48

You can steal ours,

19:49

and adjust it for whatever your needs are.

19:51

- Yeah, I went through my manufacturer's book,

19:55

and I pulled out all of the things that they talked about,

19:58

maintenance wise.

19:59

The intervals, what to do, how to do, things like that.

20:02

And I put it into a nice Excel spreadsheet.

20:06

So, it's user-friendly for me,

20:08

you guys can use it as is.

20:10

You can tweak it.

20:11

You can add to it,

20:11

delete it however you need to.

20:12

But I think the bones of it are there.

20:14

- Yeah, and when he talks about

20:17

manual,

20:17

he said manual,

20:18

but he meant manuals.

20:20

- Yeah.

20:20

- He went through every manual,

20:21

for everything we have on the rig.

20:23

The ACs, the washer and dryer, everything.

20:25

And it's all in there.

20:26

So, of course your rig may not have some of our components,

20:29

but at least the sheets and the pages are all set up.

20:32

So, you could just adjust according to your manufacturer.

20:35

- Yeah it's,

20:36

and it's, I think it's user-friendly,

20:38

I made it sailor proof.

20:39

(laughs)

20:40

So most of my,

20:41

my Navy friends will understand.

20:42

- Yeah, so the link's down below,

20:43

if you guys need it.

20:44

Just head over to the website,

20:45

and download it for yourself.

20:47

- There you go.

20:47

- And in the meantime,

20:48

we'll let Giz, off leash.

20:51

- [Phil] Go.

20:56

- Today's project include the rubber seals.

21:00

I'm gonna be working on those today,

21:01

to protect them and make sure they last a very long time.

21:05

The product I'm going to be using,

21:06

is the line of 3-in-1 RV products.

21:10

And we've actually been using this line,

21:11

since we purchased Ruby.

21:13

And we love it.

21:13

They're inexpensive.

21:15

You can find them anywhere,

21:16

and they do a great job.

21:18

I'll be starting with the RVcare,

21:20

rubber seal conditioner.

21:21

And we really liked this product,

21:23

because it is silicone based which makes it water resistant.

21:27

It blocks the UV rays,

21:28

and it helps prevent cracking,

21:30

flaking and drying of our seals.

21:32

And that means,

21:33

less chance of leaks later on down the road.

21:35

You'll notice I'm putting the rubber seal conditioner

21:37

on the front and the back of the seal.

21:40

I want to make sure it stays really soft and lubed,

21:43

and it doesn't crack later.

21:44

It's really simple.

21:45

You just spray it on, and you rub it in.

21:47

When you're doing your rubber seals,

21:49

don't forget to get them all.

21:51

We have one tucked underneath our slides,

21:53

that if Phil hadn't pointed out to me.

21:55

I would've missed.

21:56

And of course,

21:57

he's pointing things out to me.

21:58

So, let's get this one.

22:01

- [Phil] I do have one good arm.

22:02

(laughs)

22:03

I can still point.

22:10

- This would go much faster for me,

22:11

if I stopped washing my hands between every time I do one.

22:15

Let's see if I can turn.

22:17

Sweet!

22:18

Next up, is the 3-in-1 RVcare slide-out silicone lube.

22:22

This is another great product

22:24

that we've been using since the beginning.

22:26

And the benefits of this is,

22:27

it actually helps your slide-outs to last longer.

22:30

It prevents rust and corrosion.

22:32

It's silicone-based.

22:34

So again, it's water resistant.

22:36

And you can use this on almost any type

22:39

of RV slide-out mechanism,

22:40

which is really great.

22:41

So, everyone can pick this up.

22:44

Now, the benefit also,

22:45

is you can use it on vinyl, metal, plastic and,

22:50

Phil back me up.

22:51

- [Phil] Rubber.

22:52

- And rubber.

22:52

So, this product works great with all of those surfaces.

22:56

Now, as you can see,

22:57

I now have on my safety goggles.

22:59

Phil yelled at me,

23:00

whenever I did the slide-outs,

23:02

because we almost had a splash-back.

23:04

So, make sure you're protecting yourself

23:05

when you're using any products that could hurt the eyes.

23:08

So,

23:09

to use this, it's really simple.

23:11

You can even follow the tracks on your slide-out,

23:13

to know exactly where to spray.

23:15

And don't forget to get into the plastic parts,

23:17

that your slide-outs actually rub on.

23:20

One of the benefits of the 3-in-1 products is,

23:22

it actually gives you two nozzles.

23:24

So, when I sprayed the plastic,

23:27

it gave me this little straw.

23:28

And it gets right into the groove where you want it to be.

23:31

You can close it up,

23:32

and now it's a spray.

23:33

(sprays slide-out)

23:39

All right, spray it on.

23:40

And now, I'm going to wipe it around a little bit.

23:42

Now, we usually do this once a month.

23:44

But you can check your own manufacturer,

23:46

and see what they suggest for how often you,

23:48

do maintenance on your slides.

23:51

You can see,

23:52

we have two different types of slide mechanisms.

23:54

The front slides, have the diving boards.

23:56

and these are Schwintec.

23:58

So they are,

23:59

this is a plastic and a metal piece,

24:01

for our guides to actually move the slide in and out.

24:03

So, these also get taken care of by 3-in-1's silicone lube.

24:08

So, don't forget to hit all of your glides.

24:10

We have two on the bottom,

24:12

and two on the top.

24:12

So, I'll be getting all four on both slides.

24:15

As well as,

24:16

all of the diving boards on both of the front slides.

24:19

I'm also going to use the slide-out silicone lube,

24:21

on the hinges on our stairs.

24:24

So again, it's waterproof.

24:25

It's rustproof.

24:26

it works on metal, which is what our stairs are.

24:28

And because it's a hinge,

24:30

sliding in and out,

24:31

we want it to slide smoothly.

24:32

Not get caught up with the dirt and grime.

24:34

So, we usually spray this in at the same time

24:36

when we do our slide-outs,

24:37

and this is easy I just spray it right on the hinges.

24:41

We all know,

24:42

as we travel down the road,

24:43

we're kicking up all kind of dirt and debris.

24:44

That lands on the RV.

24:46

So, to keep your locks from getting corroded,

24:49

and making it stick,

24:50

and difficult to unlock.

24:51

The 3-in-1 lock dry lube,

24:53

will clean all that up and make it open with ease.

24:56

This is another one of our maintenance items,

24:58

that we do all at once, with the slides.

25:00

It's really super simple.

25:01

You use the little straw here, that they provide.

25:04

Push it into the lock.

25:05

Now, I'm pressing hard so the lock opens a little bit.

25:08

To get the straw in,

25:09

and give it a little squirt.

25:10

And that's all there is to it.

25:12

Now, I'm going to get the key and play with it.

25:14

Just to get it in there really good, but that's it.

25:15

And that's going to keep your locks from sticking.

25:18

My last thing I have to do today,

25:19

is do all the window tracks.

25:21

And these tracks really need it.

25:23

We're a little behind on this maintenance item.

25:25

And the windows are actually starting

25:27

to get a little sluggish and a little harder to open.

25:29

So, I am gonna use the 3-in-1 RVcare,

25:33

window track and dry lube.

25:35

Now, again,

25:36

we've been using this for, for about two years now.

25:38

And we really liked this product,

25:40

this product dries really quick.

25:42

So, dirt and debris is not going to stick to it,

25:44

after you put it in your window tracks.

25:47

It also prevents corrosion and rusting,

25:50

and it reduces friction and wear.

25:52

Which is gonna actually have your tracks last longer.

25:55

So, this is another important maintenance item.

25:57

Oh look, that did it.

26:00

Last window.

26:02

Now, this one has been sticking,

26:04

you can see,

26:05

so we've been a little negligent in taking care of this one.

26:08

So, let's take care of it now.

26:10

(sprays window track)

26:30

Oh, that's,

26:31

much, much better.

26:32

That's it for maintenance today.

26:34

I'm all done.

26:34

- Something I can contribute with during the maintenance,

26:37

our monthly maintenance,

26:38

is running the generator.

26:40

And all I have to do is hit a switch, to turn it on.

26:42

The reason we are running the generator is,

26:44

we've been hooked up to a power pedestal

26:47

for the last three, four months.

26:49

Your generator should be run and flexed, once a month.

26:52

And by flexed, I mean, under a load.

26:54

So, what we're gonna do is turn the generator on,

26:56

let it run for about a minute or two.

26:58

And then I'm gonna cut on both the ACs

27:01

and run it under load for about an hour or two.

27:03

Give it a good work,

27:04

let the oils get in there and

27:05

do what it's supposed to do.

27:06

Something else,

27:07

to make sure you add to your monthly checklist,

27:10

if you have a generator.

27:11

- Phew, that was a lot of maintenance.

27:13

- It was,

27:14

and I was tired of just watching her do it.

27:16

- It wasn't that difficult.

27:17

So, all of it is easy to do.

27:19

Anybody can do it.

27:20

And I'm really glad some of the stuff

27:22

I actually got to learn how to do.

27:24

- Yeah, she's a great student.

27:25

- So we did do this maintenance over

27:26

about a month or so,

27:28

we did a little bit at a time.

27:29

We obviously, you can tell by our clothing,

27:31

we,

27:32

and by Phil's arm,

27:32

we did not do it all at one time.

27:34

- No, and we couldn't.

27:35

And normally when I do it all,

27:38

it's over a few, you know,

27:39

a few weeks that I'd knock it all out.

27:40

But I do make sure that I get those items done every month.

27:43

- If you're looking for any of the products

27:45

we mentioned in this video.

27:46

All the links will be down below,

27:48

as well as the link to our blog posts.

27:50

With that spreadsheet,

27:51

that you can download and adjust for yourself.

27:53

- Yeah and again, the spreadsheet's pretty cool.

27:55

I mean, it's,

27:56

it's user-friendly,

27:57

you can tweak it however you want.

27:57

It's just a really,

27:59

it's a great place to start,

28:00

if you don't have any kind of maintenance plan,

28:02

- Yeah. - Or schedule.

28:03

- Thanks everybody for watching,

28:04

I know this was a really long video,

28:05

but there was a lot of in, info,

28:07

in here that can help almost everyone.

28:10

So, don't forget to hit that subscribe button.

28:12

- Give us a thumbs up, - Woo hoo.

28:14

- I did that with my right arm,

28:15

and get, hit the notification bell over here,

28:17

on the side of me,

28:19

this side.

28:20

- And I've also included the links to RVillage.

28:22

Please come over there and join our growing community.

28:25

We are going to start spending a lot of time over there,

28:27

and we hope you join us, so.

28:28

- Yeah, it's RV,

28:30

all the time.

28:31

That's the info that you get over there.

28:33

- That's right.

28:34

- That's the beauty of RVillage.

28:34

- Thanks so much for watching.

28:36

Hopefully, eventually once he's all healed up,

28:38

we will see you,

28:39

- (in unison) On the road.

28:40

- Product works, blah.

28:42

I gotta do my job. - [Phil] Move your hair.

28:45

- My hair's pretty today.

28:46

- [Phil] Yeah, it is.

28:47

- All of those surfer, blah.

28:48

I'm gonna beat you.

28:49

It's in the hot-water heater (laughs).

28:52

- [Phil] Water heater.

28:53

And it, blah.

28:54

(sighs) We're gonna be out here forever aren't we?

28:55

- [Phil] Yeah.

28:56

(upbeat music)
