welcome back to ask the expert and today

we have

a question from camille in paris bonjour

now camille wants to know what are the

benefits of a variable speed grinder

okay so to show that today we've got a

variable speed grinder in front of us

the way we can

tell it's a variable speed grinder is by

looking on the back here where we have

a speed control function so this makes

me sure that this is a variable speeder

and it also

it has a speed rating plate on here and

it shows uh that i can operate this at

the maximum speed of 11 000 rpm

or i can turn it all the way down to

2800

rpm so that's a variable speed grinder

so but what are these four

so these are specifically useful when

we're running

uh products such as uh non-woven uh

abrasives on them

now these products are actually made out

of of nylon

so it's very different to our

conventional grinding discs

and these are sometimes susceptible to

to heat so they can get hot and they can

melt

even though they are rated uh to run at

the maximum speed of uh

of eleven or twelve thousand on these

machines it is

actually better practice to run these uh

a slower speed if possible so six or

seven thousand rpm

to get the best uh best result and to

reduce the possibility of

smearing or melting onto your workload

also we do have some products in our

range such as this

polishing disc made out of pure felt

material and this

actually has a slower speed rating uh

than the normal products and this is

actually rated down at 8 000 rpm so

some products are not rated for full

speed and you always have to check that

before you mount that product on the

on the machine i hope that answers your
