Worked like a charm!

How do you politely tell guests that
they overstayed their welcome? My
grandpa had this hilarious way of
handling a family that used to show up
at our door during dinner. They lived a
few houses down and every evening right
when we'd sit down to eat, they'd come
knocking. The excuse was always the
same. The wife was too tired to cook and
they didn't want to trouble with making
their own meal. At first, we were nice
about it. Grandma would set out a few
extra plates, and for about a week, it
felt kind of neighborly, but the novelty
wore off real quick. They started
showing up every single night, never
bringing anything, never offering to
help with dishes, and always taking the
biggest portions. Grandpa was not having
it anymore. So, one evening after we
finished eating, instead of washing the
dishes after, like usual, he just pushed
his chair back, picked up the plates,
and set them down on the floor. Our dogs
rushed right in and went to town,
licking every bit of food off them. When
the dogs were done, he picked up the
slobbery plates and calmly put them back
in the cabinet like nothing happened.
The family was stunned. Finally, one of
them asked, "Do you do you do that every
night?" without missing a beat. Grandpa
said, "Oh, absolutely. Got to save
water, you know." The look on their
faces was priceless. They never came
back for dinner
