More Nervous about what Biden JUST said about Afghanistan
FULL TRANSCRIPT
hey everyone meet kevin here so joe
biden just talked about afghanistan i
want to give you a breakdown of what he
just said so first he started off and
i'll also talk about what he didn't said
and some of my thoughts but anyway he
talked about how we have evacuated 11
000 individuals so far from afghanistan
via charter flights and military
evacuations he says the first priority
for evacuation is any american citizen
or a permanent resident of america the
goal is getting them out as quickly and
safely as possible he's also got a
priority of evacuating citizens and
staff of nato allies so for example
we've had convoys helping the french get
their citizens over to kabul and then
out kabul's airport uh 11 000
individuals have been evacuated within
36 hours joe biden characterizes this as
a heartful and painful transition he
says that this transition would have
happened no matter what at some point
that the images on tv are heartbreaking
for example there have been pictures of
of babies being passed over barbed wired
walls to military members to try to
protect babies it's terrible what you
see but anyway uh joe biden then moves
on to to give a warning he says look a
lot can still go wrong and we're
specifically going to talk about some of
those threats and what could go wrong
uh in just a moment but first
he says what he's doing with folks who
are flying out of kabul uh kabul's
airport is they're flying people to
processing stations
in the gulf central asia and european
locations and then in these processing
centers they're going to conduct
security and background checks because
obviously one of the fears is that well
what if what if there are insurgents
potentially trojan horsing into these
plane rides out to processing centers
and then basically trying to get into
america or europe or whatever
uh and so he
suggests that these processing stations
are going to be able to conduct these
security background checks which i
personally always wondered like how are
you going to do security background
checks it's not like i can run an
experian credit profile and background
profile on on somebody in afghanistan
i'm sure they have their own methods of
background checks but given that entire
government just collapsed
i'm a little skeptical but i think some
skepticism is good to have here so i
have no idea how they do background
checks like this maybe there's like an
international database or whatever but
who knows anyway uh he also mentions
that there will be a civilian airplanes
from uh our airlines supporting this
movement once people are out of kabul
they get to these processing stations
how do we get people from these
processing stations to europe or back to
america or whatever well we've got
civilian commercial airliners providing
support about three to four planes from
each of the major airlines he didn't
mention any specific names he uh he did
make it very clear though and reiterated
that folks are not going directly from
kabul to america that they're going
through these security screenings first
and he says now well then then he goes
on to talk about security at the actual
airport and he finally addresses
something that has been really big in
the media over the last few days and he
talks about the danger of isis k the
afghani affiliate of isis which
obviously we know isis is known for ieds
and provides explosive devices car
bombing suicide bombings these these are
very clear terrorists and and isis is a
group that has already issued threats
against routes leading to the kabul
airport which is very dangerous now in
response to this joe biden kind of made
the suggestion that oh well isis is
enemies of the taliban so so they don't
like each other and i think by that
extension he's trying to send this
implication that well maybe the enemy of
of our enemy is is is somehow
i mean a butcher the way i'm saying this
let me put it this way in simply in
simple terms or simple words he's
basically trying to say hey if the
taliban don't like isis and isis don't
like us
then maybe the taliban and us can work
together now we didn't directly say that
but that was kind of the implication and
i thought that was a little weird i i
think the taliban does not necessarily
have to like us just because we have a
common enemy in isis so i was a little
confused by that
uh because we want to be real the
taliban taking over uh 300 000 service
members worth of m4 carbine rifles uh
tens of thousands of humvees uh hundreds
uh if not thousands of helicopters night
vision goggles dro uh boeing drones i'm
not talking like dji drones i'm talking
about weapons grade drones right
this is a problem okay
all of our military equipment is now in
the hands of the taliban in fact the
taliban are posing for the media wearing
our body armor and holding our rifles
and showing off all their new uniforms
it's incredible it's very very sad but
anyway uh isis k is a big threat uh and
again i've made my position clear about
biden's implication here right i don't
think that's
an appropriate correlation that he's
trying to apply uh but anyway uh isis
big big big threat so we're concerned
media is concerned people are concerned
uh military members are concerned about
these potential or the potential for car
bombings and suicide bombings so big
issues now joe biden in q a did talk
about uh having started to extend the
perimeter around the airport extending
the safe zone around the airport because
we've got the american embassy in kabul
and staff members they're freaking out
saying hey we have no safe passage to
get to the airport and we don't think we
can get out of here we think we're going
to end up dying trying to get out of
here it's it's very devastating some of
the things happening on the ground
now joe biden then goes on
to respond to this question about how do
you respond to people who now disapprove
of you for for potentially mishandling
this withdrawal now saying maybe you're
no longer competent and effective this
was a question from a reporter uh and
and he's respond to this saying to this
with sort of his his usual argument
saying look the decision is we withdraw
now or do we withdraw in five years 10
years 20 years like how long are we
gonna stay there so he says the decision
is actually very basic it's either we
withdraw now or not and he doesn't want
to see any uh sons or daughters get sent
to afghanistan anymore he says it's
expensive it's 150 to 300 million
dollars per day and i'm not sure if he's
extrapolating the earlier costs of the
war where the war was a lot more
expensive but it's worth noting that we
haven't lost a service member in
afghanistan in over 18 months and
obviously a honor big honor to all of
the veterans and service men and women
in our country but this is uh this is
something where we look and we go wait a
minute yeah i mean we had 2500 troops
there folks weren't
actively dying in afghanistan anymore we
had some relative stability and we
didn't have an entire government take
all of our weapons and essentially run
away and hand them uh to an enemy of
ours the taliban now this this is
important because really we look at that
maintenance level we i mean we'll always
well anybody can monday morning
quarterback but we look and go was it
was
would it have been worth leaving a
maintenance level of troops kind of like
a maintenance pill as an analogy i like
to use if you had asthma if you had a
maintenance pill and you keep stability
at least you're not in the hospital i
mean it's obviously too late to go back
and change anything but right now with
what's happening it's kind of like we're
in the hospital it's just a personal
analogy i use for this i also think
we've got a massive failure this is my
personal opinion massive failure of
leadership in afghanistan one of the
reasons why people often wonder why
didn't the afghani police fight why
didn't the afghani armed forces fight
they had all the tools they needed but
they didn't have the leadership the
leadership collapsed the leadership fled
so of course everybody else fled uh it's
very very devastating what's happening
there obviously my heart goes out to
everybody in the region and affected by
this but uh joe biden goes on so i want
to clearly separate my opinion from what
joe biden said joe biden goes on to
respond to a question from a reporter
who asks do you trust the taliban and uh
joe biden responds and says i don't
trust anyone including you which i
didn't think
it was right to make a comparison
between a reporter and the taliban i
think that was really just a way of
diverting the question but okay anyway
uh then joe biden has asked have the
taliban been honoring their commitments
and he says look they're a ragtag force
uh they don't even necessarily have
control over their entire force uh at
the end of the day we just have to stick
to we've got to leave and so that's joe
biden's opinion joe biden does make the
argument that china and russia
loved us being bogged down in
afghanistan
i i
am concerned about that conclusion i
actually kind of think china and russia
are glad that we're gone because it
gives them an opportunity to help fill
the power void or that power vacuum in
the region
so i have a little bit of a different
opinion uh from biden on this and um as
biden was walking out he was asked would
he consider sanctions against the
taliban he said yes but it depends on
circumstances
as he was walking out to the door he was
also asked one more question about isis
uh and and the future of isis and this
isis k threat and he did not answer that
question beyond what he had answered
previously and then uh disappeared so
that was the end of the press briefing
uh thank you so very much for watching
this video we'll obviously stay tuned to
see what happens here thanks so much bye
