ULTIMATE iPhone 16 Pro Max Test vs iPhone in PRIVATE JET
FULL TRANSCRIPT
hey in this video we're doing an initial
reaction to the iPhone 16 Pro Max and
what it sounds like on a private jet
while we're flying here in the air
you'll see that in just a moment versus
the iPhone Pro Max 15 now ordinarily
when I film with the iPhone Pro 15 on
the plane I hear a lot of background
noise and I end up using a mic a
handheld mic which is a little annoying
because if I'm holding a mic and and I'm
holding my phone it's hard to scroll
through an iPad and reference data or
facts involved and evolved doesn't want
to lose their FDIC
licensing because then then you're I
mean technically you could be a bank I
suppose without FDIC but I don't even
know if you're allowed to call yourself
a bank in that case just holding
people's cash that's bad usually what I
find with older models of iPhones is
that when I'm filming I purposely try to
hold it so that uh the microphone uh is
where my hand is so I can sort of cup
noise away from the device so for
example with this prax I'm holding now
the mic is right here where my hand is
holding it anyway this is a pretty
comfortable position I just have to keep
remember as uh filming on this to look
at the lens uh not at myself or where my
hand is which is fine but initial
reactions of the uh 16 Pro Max first I
have to say the audio is excellent the
inframe audio for what it is for not
having an external handheld with all of
the plain noise excellent listen to the
comparison directly go ahead and put
that up right here this is the iPhone 15
Pro Max and I have to say while the
iPhone 16 Pro Max you can definitely
still hear some noise in the background
it's functional especially given how
noisy it is in here but compared to this
one oh my gosh this this is hardly
functional so you do seem to have a step
up from not functional to functional
initially as well I will say it does
feel slightly faster I don't notice the
difference in screen size though
physically it is slightly larger than
the 15 Pro Max uh this does use the a18
6 core versus the uh 5 core A6 that's in
this uh now one of the tests that I
wanted to do was see how fast it is to
actually open the camera control
settings using uh the iPhone Pro 16 Max
camera control button and we have
preserved settings on we have faster
shooting on we have wind noise reduction
on and we start by filming in spatial
audio and then afterwards in the photos
app we change it to inframe okay perfect
with that uh I want you to take a look
at some of the tests that I do here with
how quickly I can get to uh either
taking a photo or a video uh you could
theoretically set it to just open to
photo uh and then you could hold down
the action button on the camera to start
rolling a video which I think that's
useful because then I can just single
click to take photos or hold it to take
video or of course if I have an a little
bit of extra time I can switch it to
video and then just turn on the video
however I do notice that when you're in
the always on display setting as opposed
to the awake screen it takes two clicks
to get to the camera control so it's
like one click to get from always on to
actually functional and then another
click to open the camera up so the
double click I think is a little weird I
think that could be fixed with software
where you could one click from always on
display directly into the camera I do
think that would be important and
there's a little bit of a lag in the
capacitive touch for how quickly I can
get to the zoom settings I do a few
different scenarios here I'll walk you
through just so you can see the steps
that I'm going through who knows maybe
I'm making oopsy dosies with one of the
steps or whatever but I wanted to share
this experience because I honestly I
wasn't expecting to want an iPhone 16
mostly because I I didn't really care
about the speed of the camera control
function for my purposes uh the way I
have it set up right now is when I have
my phone open uh what I just do is I
push the little uh new button that they
introduced in the iPhone 15 uh and then
I have these options that pop up here
and then I can choose my photo video or
whatever else so I'm just running a
shortcut essentially I will say
the audio feature though for my purposes
especially since I often film in random
places or on a plane or whatever that
could be the one game changer that says
dang it you know maybe I should have
pre-ordered now you know I'll be waiting
a month to do it but I'm borrowing an
iPhone Pro 16 here uh from one of my
team members thank you Christian but uh
yeah let's look at uh some of the
footage here of uh trying to get this up
and running rapidly and uh let's see
what you think of it hey just a
disclaimer as we go into this section I
filmed this
about yay close to my mouth because I
was just sort of holding it sideways and
then talking into it and honestly it
kind of sounded a little bit muffled it
seems like it it's designed to have some
distance so I want you to hear it
because you know if if you're thinking
about using like a podcast mic it really
close kind of to your mouth it's not
that great you can kind of hear it fade
in fade out a little bit not that great
it does really seem like it's designed
to be about a foot away so a little
annoying so I've got a little bit of
Bend in my arm here and I mean I'm
probably 12 to 15 in away here I know
what 10 in looks like so this is about
12 to 15 I know that pretty well but
anyway uh so I think that's a worthy
consideration as well because if you
think oh yeah now I'm going to have the
a podcast mic I don't think so uh maybe
if you're taking notes what you're
really doing is you're putting it down
on the table in front of you and it's
that you know 12 to 15 in uh if uh if if
you're doing the handheld and you're
doing in frame or in studio which seems
to perform roughly similarly in this
position uh that's great but again
listen to it as we talk about some of
the issues with the uh rapidity like how
quickly you can unlock the phone uh and
just in advance sorry it's a little
muffled it's just honestly it's just a
fair and transparent test um and this
section right here that I'm filming is
again 12 to 15 inches away on Studio
mode okay first things first I'm
recording this just by holding the
iPhone 16 up to my mouth and we're going
to go ahead and put it on the uh you
know not in frame but we're actually
going to put it on the studio mode so
this is on the plane voice over recorded
on the plane Studio mode now what I'm
showing you here is how long it takes to
unlock the phone to go ahead and take a
snapshot and I also find the capacitive
touch to get that Zoom working isn't as
rapid as I would like uh and then I
think that's probably a personal problem
but watch this I lock okay I go to
unlock and I have to press twice to get
it to unlock I can get in the habit of
that and I really have trouble getting
that capacitive touch to actually react
to my finger and get that Zoom going
let's try it again so we're
locked there we go quick unlock once we
go from the unlock position that was a
little faster so faster test there it
could be that this is just a matter of
uh getting used to it see we're getting
decently fast there with the unlock not
super fast though with the zoom
certainly not with one hand that could
be another issue as well this might be a
lot easier if I use two hands but for a
one hand quickly out of the pocket
quickly to filming in a zoom uh the zoom
action isn't going to be as fast and
here's just another shot where we have
it on the always on display now it's
technically on the awake screen now it's
always on again and I want you to see
from here if I go to click it once one
click
now I get nothing all I did was wake it
up and then on the second click that's
where I actually get the camera controls
to unlock so I don't know that might not
be a big deal for a lot of folks uh and
then of course you can get into some of
these settings depending on if you're on
the front camera which right now I'm on
the front camera versus the rear camera
but uh it's worth noting uh when we go
here in just a moment to lock this again
see right now when I get for the go to
the capacitive touch try to get that
positioning right and I go to the
capacitive touch here with the forward
facing camera you're just going to go
through different settings because
there's no Zoom that you're going to use
on the forward facing camera and let's
just show you again here from always on
display let's lock it to make sure we're
on always on there we go always on we're
going to go grab it
lift it up it sees me it's still a lock
icon because it's not my phone I have to
click it twice to unlock it so I do
think there's a little bit of a downside
with that speed I think Apple could
probably release a software update and
fix that but again solely because
carrying around an external microphone
and an XLR cable is annoying and the
inframe is functional again it's it's
not as good as the handheld mic but it's
functional I do think there's an
argument for people who need to film on
the Fly journalists or whatever to
potentially consider this honestly I'm
selling myself on it uh which pretty
much always happens with Apple devices I
mean you could see my you know Vision
Apple device there on the floor by the
emergency exit but anyway so uh that's
my take uh thanks so much for watching
and that's what it's like having audio
on the iPhone Pro 16 Ma
iPhone 16 Pro Max let's get the orders
wrong oh well
