0:00

well here's a summary of the Tesla

0:02

earnings call and some of the additional

0:04

juice and not juice that we got out of

0:06

the Tesla earnings call first we didn't

0:08

hear the word advertising used once

0:10

still no commentary on Advertising

0:13

though we are starting to see meet Tesla

0:15

advertisements that's pretty cool anyway

0:18

uh Elon Musk started out by uh giving us

0:21

a heads up that they're going to be some

0:22

Q3 shutdowns for upgrades he started off

0:25

with that and also ended on it because

0:27

as soon as he was asked for more detail

0:29

elon's like let's just move on from this

0:31

this is asking for a level Precision we

0:33

don't have and then uh they're like oh

0:35

we're actually out of time bye that was

0:37

after the stack was down like four

0:39

percent meanwhile it actually started

0:40

the earnings call flat so the juice of

0:43

the earnings call that really drove it

0:45

down was elon's reiteration that hey we

0:49

would rather sell more cars than focus

0:51

on margin that's kind of the opposite of

0:54

what a lot of Tesla investors were used

0:57

to in years prior where the focus was

0:59

let's get to 30 percent margin yeah

1:01

we're making so much money on the cars

1:03

now elon's like no let's get to FSD and

1:06

make money on that but the stock market

1:09

isn't convinced by FSD yet though we did

1:11

get some juicy updates for example we

1:14

got this update that there will be a

1:15

one-time amnesty opportunity in the

1:18

third quarter to be able to transfer FSD

1:20

from a car that you currently own to a

1:23

new vehicle sort of a one-time reward to

1:25

existing members that basically means if

1:28

you bought a Tesla say in 2007 or sorry

1:31

2017 and you have FSD on that and now

1:34

you want to upgrade to a new Tesla you

1:36

would be able to transfer what you paid

1:38

for in that old vehicle

1:40

to the new vehicle it's pretty cool uh

1:43

Q3 is July through September so TBD for

1:46

details on that also surprised they made

1:49

an announcement on that here obviously

1:51

the stock market is going to be readily

1:53

obsessed with Tesla's margin future

1:55

however Elon made it very clear that is

1:57

a short-term focused uh Outlook that we

2:01

should be focusing on the long term and

2:02

that in the future Elon sees a path to a

2:04

10x or maybe a 5x for Tesla stock and a

2:09

Tesla's valuation so another thing that

2:12

was quite interesting was this idea that

2:14

Elon wouldn't be focused on dojo if they

2:17

could just get their hands on enough

2:18

Nvidia chips huge shout out there to

2:21

Nvidia and uh not maybe the nicest pat

2:25

on the back to the dojo team because

2:27

it's sort of like a we only have you

2:29

because we can't get enough of them

2:31

let's just say if you're the dojo

2:33

girlfriend you're a little like uh

2:35

really

2:37

anyway uh this uh by the way previously

2:39

Elon Musk has been sort of anti these

2:41

FSD transfers because obviously that's

2:43

where he sees that margin boost

2:45

also uh this came as an announcement

2:48

through the Tesla earnings call Tesla is

2:50

in discussions to license full

2:51

self-driving to a major OEM OEM is

2:54

original equipment manufacturer that

2:56

would be like a company like Ford and GM

2:58

so Elon Musk has had discussions with

3:01

them over the past a few discussion or

3:04

weeks here uh even conducting Twitter

3:06

spaces with the CEOs of those companies

3:08

so potentially one of those

3:10

this is nearly free margin though you're

3:13

going to have a lot of Tesla fans who

3:14

are like no I want to be the only FSD

3:16

out there on the road or others are

3:18

saying well that's going to take years

3:19

to deploy but the reality is FSD

3:22

licensing doesn't necessarily have to be

3:24

here's full self driving it could

3:26

literally be as simple as here's

3:28

autopilot now just you know wobble your

3:30

you know whatever stock you've got in

3:33

your vehicle twice and boom you've got

3:35

FSD on could be something that could

3:37

happen actually pretty quickly or I

3:39

shouldn't say FSD autopilot on an

3:41

autopilot for most cases is it does most

3:43

of the work and is absolutely phenomenal

3:46

big fan of autopilot I've been using it

3:47

since about 2017 and it would be a

3:50

massive upgrade to a lot of the Adas

3:51

that companies currently have for their

3:54

sort of Lane keep and all that the

3:55

autopilot's just substantially better

3:57

easier to use easier to set up way fewer

4:00

buttons to press I mean you're going

4:01

boom boom and it's on as opposed to you

4:04

know setting your speed and and trying

4:06

to adjust your cruise distance and

4:08

enabling this you're not sure if it's on

4:10

or off it's a disaster I've tried 8as

4:12

too many times in some of these other

4:13

cars and they're just terrible so uh

4:15

anywho that'll be quite interesting to

4:17

see which company ends up announcing

4:19

that and it could actually open the door

4:21

to a lot of FSD revenue or just even

4:23

autopilot licensing Revenue that is

4:26

essentially free margin now of course

4:27

there is some risk of vehicle

4:29

cannibalization here that okay well if

4:31

somebody can buy a Ford with autopilot

4:33

why buy a Tesla although I'm not

4:36

entirely sure that the person who's

4:37

buying a Ford is interested in buying a

4:39

Tesla anyway so I'm not convinced that's

4:41

a big problem in fact I would say this

4:43

is a massive net positive especially if

4:45

you could just start with autopilot then

4:47

you might be able to use existing

4:48

cameras and sensors and not have to

4:50

integrate you know Tesla cameras and

4:52

sensors you just apply autopilot

4:54

software and slowly collect more

4:56

training data for not just these other

4:58

vehicles but the entire FSD system big

5:00

fan of it Cybertron continuing to build

5:03

release candidates we actually saw Tesla

5:05

stock drop about one percent on Elon

5:07

talking about continuing to build

5:09

release candidates which is just a

5:11

suggestion that they're still working on

5:12

this they're not actually in production

5:14

yet they're still sort of in that

5:16

tooling and testing phase so you saw

5:18

Tesla drop about a percent on that

5:19

tooling and testing phase for cyber

5:21

truck even though we still expected this

5:22

here saw Tesla drop percent to a percent

5:25

and a half on talk that maybe margin

5:27

isn't that important even though Elon

5:29

says Hey demand sort of matches uh

5:32

production which is where we want to be

5:33

yeah there's still that potential hint

5:36

that maybe price Cuts could come in the

5:38

future though they really danced around

5:40

that not as much optimism as you would

5:42

have previously heard on previous

5:45

earnings calls cell production 80 up 80

5:47

for 4680s from q1 that's great uh some

5:52

talk about uh the resident or the value

5:55

of solar deployments being a little

5:57

based on uh what kind of you um uniform

6:00

regulation you get throughout the

6:02

country not too optimistic there on

6:04

Commodities they continue to see some

6:06

improvement as well as improvement from

6:08

the inflation reduction act and then of

6:10

course able to balance out their working

6:12

capital needs a little bit better

6:13

helping keep free cash flow up which is

6:16

great there was some joking about how

6:17

isn't it great that we can make all of

6:19

our own sh9it and still be free cash

6:21

flow positive very true too but again a

6:24

lot of talk about margin margin margin

6:26

to the point where Elon was starting to

6:27

get frustrated about this focus on

6:29

margin suggesting that hey you know you

6:32

should focus on the company Long Term

6:33

and not short-term but unfortunately

6:35

uh the stock market cares about that

6:38

sort of data excuse me even though Elon

6:41

uh it feels highly confident uh in

6:43

Tesla's value long term he reiterated

6:45

his more margin warning uh you probably

6:48

don't want to take on a margin loan

6:50

during manic depressive or volatile or

6:52

turbulent times in the stock market a

6:54

little bit talk on the Optimus about how

6:56

they're about 10 Optimus robots at

6:58

various different stages of production

7:00

right now a little bit of bragging about

7:02

Giga casting about how great it is that

7:04

they can make little micro adjustments

7:05

to Casting using inserts and they have

7:08

to replace these inserts anyway as they

7:10

do wear out over time uh but that they

7:13

can then make easy and micro adjustments

7:15

to Casting inserts to modify uh their

7:18

production as needed and a little bit of

7:21

bragging about how they were able to

7:24

potentially by Leading by example now

7:26

encourage other people and other

7:28

companies that is to copy the casting

7:30

model about Austin and Berlin you're

7:33

still seeing model y builds that are a

7:36

bit pricier than per unit than what it

7:39

costs to build them in other places like

7:42

Shanghai or Fremont

7:44

uh stock is down almost five percent now

7:47

of four four and a half percent my

7:49

expectation was that uh there's there

7:51

was a chance that you would get to a

7:52

downside of somewhere around uh let's

7:56

see here if we jump on over to the fibs

7:58

we can actually just show the fibs on

7:59

screen here there we go 258 was sort of

8:01

that downside that I was looking for uh

8:04

that would be a bad report looks like

8:06

right now we're kind of bobbling around

8:07

here in the 278 level not bad that's a

8:11

modest adjustment down uh that bounce

8:13

that rejects us basically off this

8:15

longer term Trend that we've been on and

8:17

puts us back to the ceiling and previous

8:19

rejection levels where we've been of

8:21

somewhere around the 279 level maybe

8:24

that 285 level some volatility there

8:26

before getting to the 258 level but uh

8:29

yeah some some negativity here likely

8:32

driven by margin uh uh you know nonsense

8:36

basically about the uh brushing off

8:39

questions about margin

8:41

uh we're getting super charging

8:43

obviously a very exciting that you've

8:45

got so many companies adopting the nacs

8:47

uh North American charging standard

8:49

cyber production they're the highest

8:51

units per hour uh is what they're

8:54

expecting for any vehicle production

8:55

ever so they really think they can

8:58

systematize the Cyber truck production

9:00

pretty incredibly which should help with

9:02

margin as well though nobody even knows

9:04

what the Cyber truck is going to sell

9:05

for so some things to pay attention to

9:07

for uh cyber truck

9:10

the uh there will be a lot of obviously

9:13

uh institutional analysis over the next

9:15

day or so that's going to affect how

9:17

Tesla stock ends up moving the little

9:20

shutdown there at the end though about

9:22

uh getting to the weeds of the Q3

9:24

production shutdown was it something

9:26

that left I think investors with a lot

9:28

of optimism that Q3 is supposed to be

9:29

better

9:31

but oh well uh so overall I'd say you

9:34

know

9:35

benign earnings report uh some cool

9:38

announcements on the FSD transfers and

9:41

FSD licensing but really dodgy on margin

9:45

suggesting you know margin is going to

9:47

be something we're still dealing with

9:48

for the next few quarters we did get

9:50

commentary on hey we just got to get

9:52

through basically the next few quarters

9:54

and then we'll be basically Off to the

9:56

Races with how many cars we're able to

9:58

sell especially when we get into an

9:59

interest rate falling environment so

10:02

this gives you a little bit of a summary

10:03

on what happened on the earnings call

10:05

nothing here that I would say is scary

10:07

but uh definitely nothing super exciting

10:10

to where God is coming down with bags of

10:12

cash to make the company substantially

10:14

more profitable so overall I'd say kind

10:17

of what you would expect a little bit of

10:19

a give back on the rally that we've

10:20

gotten for Tesla nowhere near as bad as

10:23

it could have been though so I would

10:24

walk away from this overall kind of like

10:26

all right four or five percent give back

10:28

on stock after that no problem

10:31

let's take it from there so thanks so

10:33
