so while remember how earlier i i did

this video about how uh

i need help

uh for the next 48 hours to

send a text

well um

we just got banned

so uh apparently sending a

5.6 million texts in uh three hours

uh is is uh something that potentially

could uh clog

the uh the pipelines of text messaging

and uh verizon and t-mobile

uh

banned us from from sending texts for

the time being

partially because

uh some of the messages were we're going

through a little uh

script so

i should i should fill in a little bit

more color here with what happened so

let's let's back up a little bit okay

we don't have 40 or 50 million dollars

like governor gavin newsom does to spend

on election we have

literally like

one percent

of that okay they've got like a hundred

what we have which is crazy

uh and so uh what we thought is we would

uh

oh okay

uh

yeah okay

um

right

yeah okay that's um

i just got another email i'll show that

to you in just a second oh great

okay so we don't have that much money so

we drafted this text message and and uh

loaded in like 10 million phone numbers

into this this company called purely

which pretty good company i actually

like them i'm not sponsored by them

but uh you know support the company

they've been good to us

and uh they let us sit here and click to

send messages now you're not allowed to

use like auto clickers uh you're you're

allowed to just sit there and click and

and

thousands of you uh offered to sign up

by going to metkevin.com click

and uh you want to be clickers and we

figured well gosh if like 10 000 people

spend five minutes we'll blow through

millions of texts really fast

and we did so well though so fast that

that we clogged the networks and started

having problems but there was there was

a little bit more that also happened so

apparently

purely left the

every time you hit click it pre-fills

the message with the person's name who's

associated with that phone number

allegedly uh and and then kind of

modifies the message a little bit uh

it'll say like instead of like hi

mike uh this is kevin paffreth for

governor it might say

hey michael how's it going this is kevin

pepper and then the program

automatically like changes it a tiny

little bit every time you hit send a

human just has to hit send so that way

you're in compliance that's what we're

doing

well apparently

some individuals were able to modify

the message that was sent

to

uh to to whoever or however many people

they they were able to send their

message to so you know could be one

could be 20 it could be a thousand right

i imagine somewhere between that is

probably what one person would do

uh and uh we had a 1600 i'm sorry we had

over 6 000 people sign up to be clickers

only 1600 actually got in to be clickers

because pierly's servers started

crashing they're like

we were when you said you were going to

ask volunteers to help you we thought

you were going to have like 80

volunteers

not 1600 let alone 6 000.

so yeah y'all are so helpful we crashed

their servers

but somebody then modified the message

to this okay look at this

and this was a tweet this tweet by the

way was sent to a reporter who was

working on a profile for me and the

reporter texted me and is like dude like

i'm working on writing your story and i

just got this tweet dm to me in my tweet

message like what's going on

so the tweet is

drawing your attention to this isn't he

a ventura county resident in other words

isn't kevin paffroth the ventura county

resident and so they they copied this

tweet here or forwarded this tweet so my

husband received this text on his phone

today at real meat kevin do you endorse

this transphobic message or has this

phone canvasser gone off script because

yikes

well i first of all i don't endorse any

kind of inappropriate language let alone

anything racist transphobic none of that

um

in fact let me put a little red action

in there yeah there we go i forgot to do

that

anyway

somebody took our default message

uh which is this and added something to

the end of it

uh hi steven my name is your

um

we ended up going into the back end and

realizing this person's name was your

mom

we had already banned somebody else who

put their name in as deeznutz

uh

and i'm not kidding about that but this

person was named your mom

and so it said hi steven my name is your

because it doesn't put the last name in

anyway with kevin paffraft for governor

voting in the recall election has

started and polls are showing newsome

may be recalled whether you're yes or no

on recall vote for a strong

common sense jfk style democrat that's

me kevin paffroth has a backup option

you all know i'm like 51.49 i'm dead set

in the middle

anyway

kevin paffroth as a backup option full

like don't don't leave the second part

of the ballot blank like whether you're

yes or no vote for kevin paffreth

anyway and then it has a little you know

send stop to opt out or whatever but

then the person who sent this whose

moniker is your mom we've no idea who

they are

also added this to the end of the

message his

blank is much bigger than caitlin's

so

now

reporters are calling me up going kevin

who are these volunteers and i i'm

trying to explain to volunteers that i

don't know or to the reporters that i

don't know

because there are six thousand people

who offered to be volunteers

uh and just to provide kind of like a

little bit of a back end as to what this

looks like so you can see i'm not going

crazy uh we we took this screenshot of

the back end uh we we had about 200 000

in here so we kind of been burning

through what's in here uh and you can

actually see gabriel um

they wouldn't let us ban the person so

we had to send a message to their

support staff

and we wrote urgent could you please ban

yeah anyway and obviously i blacked out

the email but um anyway he's sending

rude messages okay whatever uh so we

were not able to change it because the

servers were crashed anyway you can see

the assigned agent here and this

happened because we were going through

checking the names that show up here

when people fill out like i want to do

it and we scroll through the names to

make sure they're appropriate and most

most of the inappropriate ones were like

no no no no but that one somehow slipped

which is not so good but anyway yeah you

would assign them over here and so

your mom ended up on that side so anyway

that's kind of what happened

now unfortunately we also got an email

here

um i was asked to forward the mess the

following message to you from our

compliance team they have paused your

account until you are able to reply to

this email like kevin pafferth campaign

you brought a message to our attention

that was transmitted from your account

that was of lewd nature the content was

a clear and direct violation of our tos

the user that sent the lewd message was

suspended it is your responsibility to

control and monitor all messages that

are sent from your account while we

understand this may have been a rogue

volunteer you must understand it is your

campaign's responsibility as it came

from your account please reply with the

following an explanation of what

happened and why this message was sent

out how you will prevent this from

happening in the future and so what

purely told us is they're actually going

to now have their developing team

implement a patch

to the entire software

that no longer lets people modify the

message

so

for now

we're screwed

we're sitting here twiddling our thumbs

because we got banned by carriers

because

your mom sent out

inappropriate messages

and i don't know how if i'm in a debate

one day and somebody asked me about this

how i'm going and then they ask me

who sent the message how i'm going to

tell them that a i don't know and b it

was your mom

this this is going to work

so

anyway once this hot patch goes out

we should be able to continue sending

messages so if you're sitting around

waiting for assignment because you want

to send text messages we've got to wait

for the developers to fix the app update

the app

and fix the problems we're facing if you
