0:00

hey everyone kevin here i want to give

0:01

you a really quick update on the

0:02

infrastructure package so take a look at

0:04

this first the house just extended

0:06

government funding through december 3rd

0:08

and increased the debt limit through

0:09

december of 2022

0:12

but don't get excited yet this does not

0:14

mean our budget is actually extended

0:16

which if we miss our budget extension it

0:18

means that people don't get payments

0:20

like child tax credits or social

0:22

security recipients don't get paid it's

0:24

bad and our debt limit if we miss that

0:26

and we default on our payment

0:28

obligations we get a big bad nick in the

0:31

reputation of america's credit

0:33

worthiness which would also be very very

0:36

bad we've never defaulted on our

0:38

payments before but this is not a done

0:40

deal yet just because the house passed

0:42

it does not mean anything because we got

0:44

to get through the senate and then joe

0:45

biden has to sign it the house passing

0:47

it is easy joe biden signing it is easy

0:49

the senate is the hard part and moody's

0:51

is doing a really good job at

0:53

fear-mongering this because they wrote

0:54

this in the washington post

0:56

the united states could plunge into an

0:57

immediate recession if congress fails to

1:00

raise the debt ceiling and the country

1:02

defaults on its payment obligations this

1:04

fall according to an analysis release

1:06

tuesday this is obviously moody's right

1:08

so here moody's found that a prolonged

1:10

impasse over the debt ceiling would cost

1:12

the u.s economy up to six million jobs

1:14

and wipe out as much as 15 trillion

1:16

dollars in household wealth and send the

1:19

unemployment rate surging to nine

1:20

percent from around five percent you've

1:22

got a lot of drama going on right now

1:24

this is in addition to the drama that we

1:26

have around the infrastructure so just

1:28

to make this clear on one hand we're

1:30

trying to get the government funded

1:32

right now and increase the debt limit

1:34

democrats could do this alone in the

1:36

senate if they would just use budget

1:38

reconciliation they only have one more

1:40

opportunity to use budget reconciliation

1:43

they're refusing to do that because they

1:45

want to use budget reconciliation on the

1:47

three and a half trillion dollar

1:49

infrastructure package so this is now

1:51

leaving the government's funding and the

1:53

debt limit up in limbo and everybody's

1:56

kind of freaking out about it in

1:57

congress now we've never defaulted

1:59

before we always get this stuff done we

2:01

always get the budget done sometimes it

2:03

just gets done late so we should be able

2:05

to get through this but mitch mcconnell

2:07

republicans are promising they're not

2:08

going to vote to contribute to the 60

2:10

votes needed in the senate to make this

2:12

happen so that's kind of where we stand

2:14

with unfortunately the government's

2:16

budget and the increasing in the debt

2:18

limit which as you heard from moody's

2:20

could be a big issue now pat toomey

2:22

doesn't think it'll be as big of an

2:24

issue pat toomey thinks that the worst

2:26

that would happen if we didn't raise the

2:28

debt ceiling is that some better federal

2:30

vendors won't get paid on time so really

2:32

what you're going to have here unfold is

2:35

this media battle where what you're

2:36

going to see is democrats saying hey

2:38

look we passed the bill in the house now

2:41

you've got republicans it's their turn

2:43

in the senate to help us vote and pass

2:44

this why don't they want to fund the

2:46

government why do they want to miss our

2:47

payment obligations why are they trying

2:49

to screw our credit worthiness right

2:51

that's the media campaign that democrats

2:53

are going to use to try to pressure

2:54

republicans to go for this republicans

2:56

are like no it's not that big of a deal

2:58

those things wouldn't be that bad if it

3:00

happened especially if it happened short

3:02

term not as a prolonged impasse and

3:04

ultimately we want to pressure you to

3:06

use the budget reconciliation plan

3:08

because if you use that option then the

3:10

three and a half trillion dollar

3:11

infrastructure package is basically dead

3:14

so if democrats pass this with

3:17

three and budget reconciliation

3:17

trillion dollars is probably out the

3:19

window which means no changes on the

3:21

salt no changes on capital gains taxes

3:23

the corporate uh

3:25

corporate uh income tax rate the uh

3:28

extension of the child tax credit for

3:29

five years the preschool free preschool

3:31

for children three and four

3:33

lots of other things child care

3:36

dependent care you name it like a lot of

3:38

the things in that social infrastructure

3:39

plan just wouldn't happen and so you've

3:42

got this massive massive impasse right

3:44

now in the senate and things are about

3:46

to get real dirty over this next week at

3:48

the same time joe biden is kind of

3:50

freaking out because joe biden is

3:52

actually so freaking out that he is

3:54

going to be campaigning uh with pelosi

3:57

and schumer tomorrow at 2pm they're

3:59

going to meet to strategize how to get

4:01

this infrastructure planned rammed

4:02

through and joe biden is going to be

4:04

meeting with representatives and

4:07

congressmen and women over the weekend

4:09

to figure out how can they negotiate

4:11

actually getting the three and a half

4:12

trillion dollar infrastructure package

4:14

done along with the one trillion dollar

4:15

package that's because nancy pelosi

4:18

promised to vote on the one trillion

4:20

dollar infrastructure package on monday

4:22

but now people like the house

4:24

progressives caucus are saying no we're

4:27

not going to even vote to on the one

4:29

trillion dollar package unless you give

4:31

us the three and a half trillion dollar

4:32

package but the three and a half

4:34

trillion dollar package isn't done yet

4:36

on top of that you had house democrats

4:38

today some house progressives going we

4:40

don't want to spend a billion dollars on

4:42

the israeli iron dome so that was cut

4:44

from the bill that was supposed to be

4:45

passed today which was a normal part of

4:47

our defense aid that we usually spend

4:49

for other countries spend about 47

4:51

billion dollars in foreign aid every

4:53

year and i mean i kind of get this

4:55

because a lot of people are like hey

4:56

let's focus on paying american bills

4:58

first rather than other bills the

4:59

foreign minister in israel thinks this

5:02

is just a technical issue because of the

5:04

the debt limit and it'll get passed

5:05

again in the future but the point is

5:08

you've got a giant disaster happening in

5:10

congress right now you've got the house

5:12

progressives caucus threatening not to

5:15

vote on this bill and nancy pelosi said

5:18

that she will not

5:19

put this bill up for a vote unless she

5:22

has the votes to actually get this thing

5:24

passed uh which uh right now she nancy

5:28

pelosi says uh quote we'll cross all the

5:30

bridges when they come which is kind of

5:33

funny because it's like the bridges are

5:34

kind of here right now and this weekend

5:36

so nancy pelosi is going to be stressing

5:38

for a little while

5:39

we'll be very interested to see what

5:41

happens with this negotiation most

5:43

importantly though over this next week

5:44

is determining what happens with the

5:46

debt ceiling and the government funding

5:49

because right now the infrastructure

5:51

package it ain't gonna happen

5:53

i i don't expect uh the uh the three and

5:55

a half trillion dollar infrastructure

5:56

package to really be a priority uh at

5:59

this very moment with the exception of

6:01

biden and his discussion with democrats

6:03

the biggest priority right now is that

6:05

debt ceiling and extending government

6:07

funding and when you hear news headlines

6:10

that this thing has been passed it's

6:11

only been passed in the house we've got

6:13

a lot of work left to do we're nowhere

6:15

near close if you want more details on

6:17

exactly what's going on in the senate

6:19

check out the link down below to see

6:21

exactly uh in the video that i posted

6:23

yesterday how that negotiation is

6:25

looking this just gives you a little bit

6:26

of an update on what just passed and how

6:29

we really haven't gotten any further and

6:31

if you found this helpful consider

6:32

subscribing to the video and folks or to

6:34

the channel that is and folks we'll see

6:36

you in the next one thanks so much
