0:00

was the star of The Apprentice he had

0:01

built some buildings he was a

0:03

billionaire had a beautiful wife what

0:05

were you going to say eight years later

0:07

there's a lot to say and a lot to

0:09

differentiate and that's exactly what

0:10

I'm going to do and nobody else in this

0:12

race is willing to do it they're afraid

0:14

to do it or they're unable to do it and

0:16

we're going to do it why is that well I

0:18

think over time uh you know Donald Trump

0:20

has cowed a lot of people Becky and you

0:23

know people get upset about being called

0:25

names in public I'm from New Jersey I

0:27

get called names of public all the time

0:29

it doesn't matter I'm used to it and

0:31

I've known him for 22 years I think the

0:33

difference is most of the people in

0:34

politics have only known them for eight

0:36

or nine or ten years I've known for 22

0:38

years I'm not afraid of him he's a paper

0:41

tiger what how did it take what was it

0:43

with him that you thought forget it I'm

0:44

not going to work with you anymore or

0:46

support you anymore election night 2020.

0:49

I was sitting on the set at ABC and when

0:51

he got out there and said at 2 30 in the

0:53

morning the election's been stolen when

0:55

I know that the votes weren't even all

0:57

counted yet he couldn't have had any

0:59

idea that the election stolen I said you

1:01

can't stand as president United States

1:03

in the East room of the White House and

1:04

say that to the American people it

1:06

undercuts their confidence in the

1:08

Democracy we've seen what's happened in

1:09

the two and a half years since then on

1:11

that and I sat there I turned to George

1:12

stephanopus I said come to me right

1:14

after the speech because I've got

1:16

something to say and that was really the

1:18

breaking point for the two of us and at

1:20

that time that was a relationship that I

1:22

got on for almost 20 years but you know

1:24

you can't do that stuff to our democracy

1:26

when you've been privileged to be

1:28

president of the United States and and

1:30

now you see some of the crazy stuff he

1:31

said last night on TV that I didn't

1:34

respond to a grand jury subpoena because

1:36

you know I'm very busy how many rounds

1:39

of golf has he played in the two and a

1:41

half years since he left office he's too

1:43

busy to go through the boxes to do what

1:46

to to move classified information from

1:48

his golf shirts and his golf pants

1:50

that's seemingly what he was saying last

1:51

night like the voters in the United

1:53

States are going to listen to this Joe

1:54

and they're going to say no not this

1:57

time we've seen this show we don't want

1:59

to rerun

2:00

Christy here is being very aggressive

2:03

obviously for you know his own purposes

2:05

but this is a big big aggression now

2:07

we're like and he called

2:09

you see when he says to Santas it just

2:12

comes out to sanctimonious I mean he

2:14

said it last night it was like I said

2:16

what did he say oh he's talking about

2:18

this well of course hey look he's into

2:20

the name calling and all the rest of

2:22

that and that's fine it it was it was

2:24

new it was different eight years ago it

2:27

is old now Joe and it's going to get

2:28

even older look at those numbers Chris

2:30

look I see him you know what look I see

2:33

them and I and I will tell you what

2:36

um this election is not decided today uh

2:40

and those numbers are National numbers

2:42

no one's running campaign against him

2:43

yet

2:44

but people will start to do it remember

2:46

when he said I could shoot someone on

2:48

Fifth Avenue yeah that's still true for

2:51

and I I would never ever ever channel uh

2:54

Hillary Clinton but there are is what

2:57

are those 30 that just no matter what

2:59

just are they deplorables how does that

3:01

no what what has happened is he is

3:03

tapped into the uh anxiety and anger a

3:07

lot based off the economy guys that

3:09

where people feel like yeah we should

3:10

talk about they're displaced you got to

3:12

have your own ideas if you want to do it

3:14

what do we inflation's bad what caused

3:16

the inflation and what do we do about it

3:18

excessive government spending you know

3:20

what caused the inflation it was out of

3:22

control ridiculous it's everywhere it's

3:25

not just here but listen if something

3:27

like that happens in the United States

3:29

it spreads everywhere where the most

3:31

dominant it's uh quickly just worth

3:33

noting that uh Donald Trump did mention

3:35

that in 2016. I could shoot somebody and

3:38

I wouldn't lose any votes obviously I

3:40

think he's making it was a rhetorical

3:42

argument it's worth putting into a

3:44

little more content text it was a

3:45

political campaign rally in 2016. it

3:47

would be Trump's platform right look

3:49

except I'd be able to do it you know

3:51

this is a guy who said he was going to

3:52

build the wall on the southern border

3:54

Mexico was going to pay for it and we

3:56

have a quarter of a wall and not the

3:58

first peso in the door what do you do

4:00

with immigration and what do you do with

4:01

them to do two things first it's a Well

4:03

three things I'd say first at the border

4:05

for right away I said National Guard to

4:07

the border to interdict fentanyl uh 110

4:11

000 overdose deaths in this country last

4:13

year it's now the leading killer in men

4:15

18 to 34 in this country that's job one

4:18

um job two is to finish building the

4:20

wall we started it let's just finish it

4:23

and get that done and third is to bring

4:26

both parties together like I did in New

4:28

Jersey on things like pension reform and

4:30

health benefit reform and police reform

4:33

where people said none of these things

4:34

can be done we do that on immigration

4:36

and say to everybody everyone's gonna

4:37

have to give something on this that they

4:39

don't like but in the end we need to do

4:42

things like all these graduate students

4:43

who come from over the world to come to

4:45

school here they should stay here and

4:47

work here we need to have a merit-based

4:49

system on immigration where the people

4:51

who can contribute to our economy and

4:52

our society get to stay here but to get

4:55

that we're gonna have to make

4:56

compromises with the other side and be

4:58

able to get that done I did that in the

5:00

blue state for eight years it's a skill

5:02

you have to know how to do it and not be

5:04

afraid of doing it so those are the

5:05

three things I think we need to do on

5:06

immigration you do those three things

5:08

we'll have immigration under control and

5:10

our economy will grow what would you do

5:12

with the dreamers

5:13

I did this in New Jersey look at it with

5:15

dreamers in New Jersey we gave them

5:17

in-state tuition rates I'm paying as a

5:20

New Jersey taxpayer to educate them K

5:22

through 12. don't we want them to be

5:24

able to afford to go to college then

5:25

we've already made that investment once

5:27

they've come here

5:28

um and so that's but you know larger

5:30

dreamers it's not going to be part of an

5:32

overall deal everyone's got to be able

5:34

to get something out of this for it to

5:36

be done because otherwise we're gonna be

5:37

sitting here with the same problem 20

5:38

years from now and that's not going to

5:40

be good for the safety of our country

5:42

it's not going to be good for our

5:43

economy

5:44

the uh

5:46

31 trillion 30 I don't know who's

5:48

specifically he could have said that a

5:49

lot more clearly the implies we're

5:51

paying for people to go to college it's

5:53

it's more taxpayers are already paying

5:55

for K-12 so may as well also let them go

5:58

to college

5:59

so only thing that will solve any of

6:01

this

6:02

is probably gross other people would

6:04

argue we need more Revenue higher taxes

6:07

like we didn't have enough like how much

6:09

did we do we have last year to spend and

6:12

still didn't have enough look it's it's

6:13

not higher it's not higher taxes Joe

6:15

well that's what you're going to hear oh

6:17

that's what you're going to hear but

6:18

that's Joey's here from the other side

6:19

there's two things you have to do you

6:22

have to revitalize the economy to bring

6:24

more growth and secondly you have to

6:26

reduce spending you just have to where

6:28

you have Debt Service well well you

6:31

obviously can't reduce that job but we

6:34

have spent trillions on other things

6:36

over the last five years trillions

6:38

Donald Trump said when he ran in 2016 I

6:41

will balance the budget in four years he

6:43

left with the largest deficit of any

6:45

president modernism before covert he had

6:47

that Joe he was running huge deficits

6:49

and we need to deal with Social Security

6:51

because 2034 24 benefit cut there are

6:57

millions of people in this country we

6:58

won't talk about that if you're the

6:59

nominee you of course I will I'm talking

7:01

about it right now the fact is you have

7:03

to look at things like beans testing for

7:05

the very wealthy don't need to get

7:07

Social Security and secondly for people

7:09

in their 30s and 40s we need to consider

7:11

you know raising the retirement age

7:13

they'll have plenty of time to plan for

7:15

that oh that'll be very unpopular but

7:18

for people in their 30s or 40s you have

7:20

time for your remember what happened in

7:21

Paris the plan for that it was all the

7:24

young people who protested bring

7:26

um the cost down

7:28

who who are your your backers at this

7:31

point financially because you know

7:33

we might like to think that anybody can

7:34

get elected without Financial backing

7:36

but you need it yeah and I wouldn't have

7:38

gotten into the race unless I had some

7:39

very significant people I don't want to

7:41

do it yet Becky because we're going to

7:42

put out a report

7:43

um on June you know mid-july for our

7:45

June 30th report but I think what you're

7:47

going to find are a lot of people who

7:50

were with Donald Trump before are now

7:52

with us some folks who are with other

7:54

candidates in 2016 like Jeb Bush like

7:57

Marco Rubio are now with us and I think

7:59

folks who want someone who's going to

8:01

take this on directly we were talking

8:02

about this before we came on how do you

8:04

win this race

8:05

it's fantasy to believe you can win this

8:08

race by not taking on Donald Trump he's

8:10

in front how do you beat someone and not

8:12

talk about them I look at the other

8:13

candidates in this race they're trying

8:16

to keep the 30. 30 they're never getting

8:18

the 30. Joe if if you if you like Coke

8:23

a new code comes out why are you buying

8:25

new Coke

8:26

you say I like Coke it's right over here

8:27

I've been drinking it forever I'm gonna

8:29

keep drinking it for a minute

8:32

later but here's the thing you you have

8:36

to be able to differentiate yourself

8:39

70 percent of the Republican primary

8:41

electorates say either I will never vote

8:43

for Trump or I'm considering voting for

8:46

someone else how about we focus on the

8:47

70 instead of the 30. I wish I you know

8:49

you had lightning in a bottle at that

8:51

one point when you I think maybe I hope

8:53

you recapture uh Governor just to give

8:55

them all right we'll watch it thank you

8:57

right here with you and you'll come back

8:59

on okay and the Andrew's not here this

9:01

morning what a gift this is like this is

9:03

like my summer gift that Andrew's not

9:05

here come back we will okay thank you

9:08

all right I mean honestly you have to

9:10

say he's

9:12

there's some things he could say more

9:14

clearly I think to Americans when he's

9:16

speaking I think he's speaking in such a

9:18

way that unless you know some of the

9:21

specific details of what he's talking

9:22

about it's somewhat hard to follow along

9:24

uh see that's something that Donald

9:26

Trump does great you know he'll play it

9:29

very very translate things very very

9:32

simply uh that's a very big difference

9:36

between the two here right you get this

9:38

uh Chris Christie all right you know

9:41

we're gonna we haven't seen a dime of

9:43

pesos come in the door yet it's like you

9:45

know this this translated into and then

9:48

kind of quickly skirts past that we only

9:49

Built a fourth of the wall and haven't

9:50

seen a dime of pesos yet in the door if

9:53

Donald Trump were to make that argument

9:54

it'd be more like

9:56

the guy only finished 25 of his job and

10:00

didn't get paid a nickel I'd get paid

10:02

100 and I do 100 of the job you know

10:05

something like that I'm not an obviously

10:06

a trumpet person here but the point is

10:07

that that

10:09

um I think the impacts are missing a

10:10

little bit from uh from Chris Christie

10:12

so if there was any advice it'd probably

10:14

be something like that

10:16

um but anyway

10:17

um it's it's I think we all recognize

10:20

it's probably going to be another uh

10:22

unless there's some more candidates that

10:24

enter probably looking at another uh

10:27

trumpy Biden Showdown so we'll see

10:28

nobody knows him but uh it's uh it's

10:32

gonna be interesting it's gonna be a

10:34

crazy election cycle uh and uh hopefully

10:36

some of the ideas from some of the other

10:38

candidates get adopted by some of the

10:40

main candidates because there are good

10:42

ideas floating around uh from the other

10:44

candidates but sort of like when I ran

10:46

for governor in California I had uh I

10:48

had plans to uh for a temporary period

10:51

of time utilize the National Guard to

10:53

help us solve our homelessness crisis in

10:55

California and uh I thought our

10:58

obviously I thought my idea was great uh

11:00

but anyway My Hope was that if I didn't

11:02

win which I didn't uh if I didn't win I

11:04

actually came in second and recall

11:05

candidates that at least some of the

11:07

ideas would survive and uh I saw a lot

11:10

of the ideas come up and still do in

11:12

elections for example my National Guard

11:15

for for homelessness uh plan was adopted

11:18

by the uh Republican mayoral candidate

11:23

for Los Angeles of course he didn't win

11:25

either uh sorry anyway that's California

11:28

for you but uh somebody who wish I'll

11:31

see uh okay so um

11:34

let's um oh yeah and then of course over

11:37

the weekend if you missed the drama it's

11:38

a good point Steve uh there's been a lot

11:40

of drama about uh you know you've got on

11:43

one hand RFK who went on Joe Rogan's

11:45

podcast for three hours and made a lot

11:48

of vaccine claims and claims that Wi-Fi

11:51

causes cancer vaccines cause autism and

11:53

that you know the covet vaccines are

11:55

also bad and I think there are a lot

11:57

more people who agree with well the

11:58

covert vaccines are also not effective

12:00

at least uh compared to you know people

12:04

worrying about Wi-Fi although maybe we

12:06

should be uh or or you know all vaccines

12:08

cause autism right these these sort of

12:10

claims uh have many times been debated

12:13

before and some of the drama that's

12:15

happened politically over the weekend is

12:17

that you have uh some very very

12:20

prominent vaccine scientists who uh

12:23

dispute the claims of RFK on Twitter but

12:27

uh once invited by Joe Rogan uh and even

12:31

financially supported uh by by other

12:34

people on Twitter Twitter who are saying

12:35

look we'll pay money to have a debate

12:38

between someone like RFK and a vaccine

12:40

scientist because we think these sort of

12:42

debates should be happening with

12:43

Scientists you have a little bit more of

12:46

a oh no no we're scientists we're not

12:48

debaters and so then people are like

12:50

okay well then does that mean somebody

12:52

who's making claims like RFK wins by

12:54

default

12:55

well no but then if you're not willing

12:57

to debate then who is well it should be

13:00

somebody educated right but if a

13:01

scientist isn't willing to debate then

13:03

like who is so yeah you know you're

13:07

gonna get a big hole right now uh and uh

13:10

you know I think it's obviously

13:11

substantially way too early to draw any

13:13

particular confusions her conclusions

13:15

rather but I will say it's given RFK a

13:17

lot of social media clout specifically

13:20

at least on Twitter uh but then again

13:22

Twitter skews very very heavily towards

13:26

the

13:27

uh Free Speech absolutist uh direction

13:30

that anybody should be willing to stand

13:34

for an opinion that they they make and

13:39

to some extent there's a lot of Merit to

13:41

that so anyway we'll see but I I don't

13:43

know I don't want to get so terribly

13:44

deep into politics but um anywho uh that

13:48

uh that gives us a little bit on um

13:50
