FULL TRANSCRIPT
This is gross, but it's true. [music]
When you're with someone and you
physically touch, the reason you're
physically touching is you're trying to
[music] produce oxytocin, but also you
really want to smell them. [laughter]
There was a fantastic [music] study that
looked at this and what they did is they
videotaped strangers shaking hands. So,
we can shake hands.
>> And what they found was within the first
few seconds after shaking hands, people
without realizing it [music] touched
their own nose, swiped it, itched it.
why their brain was actually trying to
smell what were the chemicals
>> that you just gave me because we like
people with different immune [music]
systems than us. Well, nature needs to
make sure that you don't feel attracted
to your sibling. And even if [music]
they're good-looking, what are they
going to do? Like, how do you make sure?
Exactly. And so, you're kind of like,
are you a cousin? Uh-huh.
>> [laughter]
