0:12

today we're going to talk about one of

0:13

our many questions we get which of these

0:15

products are a grinding disc fiber disc

0:18

or a flat disc do we use to take down

0:20

different varieties of metal today we're

0:22

going to talk about it with a weld

0:24

so the first one we're going to talk

0:25

about is our grinding disc this is made

0:27

up of grit resin teflon inner layer

0:30

and your pore filler so what this does

0:32

you put all that together you're going

0:34

to have a very hard disk

0:36

so this right here you're able to remove

0:38

faster and that's something we'll be

0:39

able to show you more in depth further

0:41

into the video the next one is and so

0:43

here we have a klingspor fiber disc and

0:45

what it is it's just a vulcanized fiber

0:48

backing

0:49

which has abrasive grain bonded to it

0:52

usually in this case it's either going

0:53

to be aluminum zirconia or it's going to

0:55

be a ceramic aluminum oxide just because

0:57

you get a little more out of those

0:58

they're more aggressive and they last

0:59

longer so one thing i do want to hit on

1:02

is that these do have to be around with

1:03

a backing pad

1:05

so it's sole purpose there is just to

1:06

add support

1:07

because even though these are pretty

1:09

stiff durable backing if you run them

1:10

without the pads they will rip and

1:13

possibly break apart causing damage so

1:14

be sure and run these with the clean

1:16

sport backing pads as well

1:20

on my right here we have a cling spore

1:22

flap disc and essentially what it is

1:24

it's just a polyester abrasive cut into

1:27

little squares

1:28

and they're going to be glued to a

1:30

backing usually that's going to be a

1:31

fiberglass backing it's more lightweight

1:33

less heat build up things like that so

1:35

this has a built-in backing so there's

1:36

no really backing pad needed and this is

1:39

used as the same application as a fiber

1:41

disc and we'll go through the advantages

1:42

of each

1:43

depending on the application they kind

1:44

of each have their sole purpose and

1:46

sometimes it comes down to just a matter

1:48

of preference

1:51

so what we're going to do at this point

1:52

is we're going to take these welds down

1:54

with each of these and then at the end

1:55

of the video we're going to discuss the

1:57

advantages and actually you can see the

1:59

advantages of them so we are going to

2:01

time how long it takes to remove because

2:03

that is going to be a big factor as well

2:05

so just stay tuned

4:20

so as you can see in the photo the

4:22

grinding disc went about 15 faster than

4:25

the other ones but at the same time the

4:28

whole point for this is just to remove

4:29

that weld so you can see it's got gouge

4:31

marks and those inside that pitcher but

4:34

really for a grinding disc the whole

4:35

point of this it's a workhorse it is

4:37

going to remove really fast and it's

4:39

probably not going to look as pretty as

4:41

it when it's done

4:42

but we're getting that weld down and

4:44

we're good to go

4:45

the next one you can see the fiber disc

4:47

here it's a little bit more grainy in

4:48

terms of finish so you can see those

4:50

scratches left so it's not going to be

4:52

quite as aggressive as the grotting disc

4:54

danny used

4:55

but it's going to be close behind it and

4:57

it's kind of going to be that

4:57

intermediate finish

4:59

and one thing i do want to hit on you

5:00

can see the grinding area here is much

5:03

wider than that weld was so if you're

5:05

looking for a good aggression remember

5:07

it is going to touch the work piece

5:08

under it so it might be a little bit

5:09

wider than the weld

5:10

it is going to leave a wider scratch

5:13

and speaking of that it kind of brings

5:14

me to the flat disc here you can see it

5:16

leaves the best finish of the three

5:19

all while maintaining pretty good

5:20

aggression not as much as the other two

5:22

but you can see it's going to leave the

5:24

best finish while maintaining a good

5:26

aggression advantages to the flat disc

5:27

because you can kind of determine how

5:29

wide you want the grinding area to be

5:31

this one was an angled flap disc so you

5:33

can see it's much more narrow so if

5:34

you're looking for something just to

5:36

remove the weld and not touch the work

5:38

piece an angled flat disc would be a

5:40

really good option so

5:42

and as you can see these pictures again

5:43

this one leaves the best finish of the

5:45

three

5:47

so thank you all so much for joining us

5:49

for this metal video and we'll see you

5:50

next time
