FULL TRANSCRIPT
if you get anxious around other people
I'm a psychologist and here are three
things you need to know number one when
you feel socially anxious you tend to
have an inward Focus that means you're
totally focused on how you're being
perceived by other people so it helps to
make a conscious effort to shift your
focus to one of outward curiosity so
questions like what do I want to know
about other people in the room number
two you're also prone to the spotlight
effect which means you overestimate how
much others are judging you in fact the
research shows we get this wrong most of
the time in reality people are less
concerned with us than we think simply
reminding yourself of that enables you
to recognize the bias and take the power
out of it and number three after a
social interaction you probably spend
time worrying about what that person
thought about you that's going to make
your anxiety worse so instead try
rewarding yourself for every social
interaction whether it went well or not
because every time you interact with
people you are tackling your anxiety
head-on
