Gospel 101: Part 4 - The Prescription - Reconciliation
FULL TRANSCRIPT
hi there once again this is Phil Carlson
with a quick message for your personal
professional and spiritual growth now of
course I say a quick message and I
realize the last video ran a little long
so I'm not sure how quick it's going to
be but it's going to be as quick as I
can make it this is video four part four
of the nine part series I'm doing on the
gospel gospel 101 we have so far talked
about the four categories and we've gone
through the first two categories which
were the premise and the problem and now
that we've just finished talking about
the problem we're going to now get to
the prescription which is reconciliation
with God this is how the problem of sin
needs to be addressed there are numerous
aspects of how this issue of
reconciliation is dealt with there are
many ways of talking about it one and in
fact it's not just ways of talking about
it it's aspects of the reconciliation
process
reconciliation comes through
justification
which is actually where our sins are
brought to Justice
and yet we ourselves are able to be
separated from the punishment that we
deserve for those sins then there's
regeneration whereas we become New
Creations we actually have to become
what we were not before we need to be
brought alive in God because before we
were spiritually dead that's part of the
problem
and then also we need to be adopted into
the family of God because we have lived
as orphans we were alienated from God
through our sins and now in
reconciliation we are brought back into
the family of God that comes with
benefits and it comes with a new nature
of our relationship with God in fact it
comes with so much I won't be able to
get to it in the video I cover it up
and then the next thing that I want to
make sure we talk about is
sanctification this is another element
of that process of reconciliation with
sanctification we actually live
according to the new identity that we
have in God
but to do that requires being involved
in a battle with our flesh our physical
bodies are still imbued with sin
those are going to be replaced to one
day in the future but until that time
until we die of a physical death or we
end up going to be with the Lord without
dying because Jesus returns in our
lifetimes
then we are going to continue to be
battling sin until that point
so
let's talk about reconciliation today
and of course there's one more aspect of
that reconciliation that I'm going to
leave to the last video which is
glorification and we'll we'll get into
that at that point but
and that's the future Prospect
but first today reconciliation
so let's take a look at a chapter where
reconciliation is brought up a lot in
the Bible and this is second Corinthians
chapter five and we're going to look
specifically at Verse 18 yeah Verse 18
of chapter 5 through verse 21. now all
these things are from God now these
things he's talking about are benefits
of salvation
reconciliation now all these things are
from God who reconciled us to himself
through Christ and gave us the ministry
of reconciliation namely that God was in
Christ reconciling the world to himself
not counting their trespasses against
them and he has committed to us the word
of reconciliation
therefore we are ambassadors for Christ
as though God were making an appeal
through us we beg you on behalf of
Christ be reconciled to God he made him
Jesus who knew no sin to be sin on our
behalf so that we might become the
righteousness of God in him
that is what this is about Jesus took
our place so that we might take his that
we would actually experience fellowship
with the father as Jesus has experienced
for eternity past and will continue to
experience for eternity future
this is where a place has been made for
us in the family of God
everyone who has repented of their sins
everyone who has come to Faith In Jesus
is given a reconciled relationship with
The God Who
was it he who rejected us no we rejected
him how through our Disobedience through
sin through the sin nature and once Adam
and Eve opened that door to treasonous
Rebellion against God which we read
about in our previous video involving
the problem
everyone got swept into it from before
they were born it actually talks about
this in a number of Psalms where it's
even while
before we were born we were in this sin
nature so let's talk about one more
scripture involving reconciliation and
that will be the end of this video
and that is First John chapter 4 verse
10. it just so happens this is my
favorite verse in the whole Bible in
this is love not that we loved God but
that he loved us
and sent his son to be the propitiation
for our sins
what does that mean
the propitiation for our sins I'll get
into that in the next video but the key
idea here
is that it is not about whether or not
we have affection for God or whether or
not we feel good things towards God or
we like God that isn't the issue
God's love for us is defined by action
as well as affection and our love if it
is to be true if it is to be real must
be defined not merely by affection but
by action and not just one or two
actions or a few actions or or many
actions
it's defined by a lifestyle of seeking
to be in alignment with God's word and
God's purposes on the earth as we talked
about in our second video regarding the
premise we remember Humanity was created
for God and for the pleasure of God we
were not created for our own pleasure we
get pleasure through coming into
obedience to God we get pleasure and Joy
from being in right relationship with
God that's how God set things up that is
a byproduct of the Prime product which
is being in right relationship with God
and so the way I demonstrate my love for
God Is by doing his commands Jesus
actually talked about this in the Gospel
of John if you want to show that you
love God
do what he's telling you to do if you
fail along the way that's one thing
that is something where you can still be
consistent with being a Christian
but if you're actively still just trying
to live life on your own terms and you
just fit God in where you can that isn't
the way of a lot of a lifestyle of
reconciliation
that's a life of rebellion that wants to
look as though it's reconciled without
actually having the fact of a reconciled
intimate relationship with God
so this is the beginning of what's now
going to be four videos talking about
what God does in our Salvation he
justifies us he regenerates us he adopts
us and he sanctifies us and then the
future Prospect we'll get to later but
God bless you and I hope you enjoyed
this video and have a great day
