Toilet Wax vs Rubber: Which Works Better?

We're going to take our special design custom assembly and we're going to install different

types wax and rings, and then put them to a pressure test to see which one actually works

better for you. The homeowner, or you the plumber. If you're installing it that way,

you're not called back because they have surrogacy smells inside their house. Anyway,

let's jump in here and check this out. 00;00;49;02 - 00;01;14;11

Unknown So this is the magic contraption we built. And I

got to tell you, it's really pretty neat. We took a piece of four inch pot, put a cap on it, tap it

so we can add pressure. And we've got a ring up here. So we have actually cut some six inch round,

clear some six inch round, some six inch round. 00;01;14;13 - 00;01;40;07

Unknown So we've got some six inch round,

clear acrylic that we've drill holes in. So we're actually going to attach it to the top

of the wax and the rings and then apply pressure and see how they do. So anyway, let's get going.

So we're going to take this and pretend it's on the bottom of a toilet and set it in there,

just like it would be if the toilet set down. 00;01;40;10 - 00;02;22;21

Unknown I'm going to take our custom

made clear acrylic and put on there to probably set up, put our toilet robes on first, and then

we're going to take our clear acrylic and put it on there. One of the dead center put our washers

on here and our nice and there's no metal wash on this one right? So we've got these started just

like you would have on a toilet. 00;02;22;23 - 00;02;47;07

Unknown Now what we're going to do

is we're going to snug it up just a little bit. So we really don't know how much pressure is on it,

because this isn't like a toilet. It's always got a flange. It's going to set around the

outside. So as you can see, we've actually squeezed it down to the wax and started to

push out around the edges. 00;02;47;10 - 00;03;27;19

Unknown And we can

see about how far down we are. We look fairly close to the end even,

and we're tight enough that it's pulling up on the side. So let's just see what kind of

pressure this will get up to. And you heard it right there. It got up to about 25 or £30

before it dropped. Now, there should never be that much pressure on your sewer system,

meaning on the bottom side of your pee trap, when you flush your toilet and the water goes down,

there shouldn't be a ton of pressure. 00;03;27;24 - 00;04;01;09

Unknown Even if your toilet starts up, even if

you're sewer minus topped up that pressure. Well, I mean, think about it. We're talking three feet,

one and a half PSA. So that's why wax rents have lasted so long and done so good. So we'll check

the video for about 2530. PSA is where I heard it gave away. And the thing is, once it gives way,

now this curved acrylic maybe pulling back down on it, but once it gives way, well, that's when you

start getting sewer gas wells in your house. 00;04;01;12 - 00;04;27;17

Unknown So remember,

this is tied to your sewer, the pee traps on the top side. So let's take this apart. And

it did get a good seal all the way around it. So let's swap this out and see what we can do now.

All right. So now we're back with the extra thick wax, right? And when I'm in a field,

when I'm in a truck, I know this fellow. 00;04;27;19 - 00;04;48;09

Unknown That's what I

really enjoy. I like having the extra thick rings because I know that come out. I just I

know that they're going to do what they need to do. It's pretty funny. I'm flipping the washer

over because I know that the cap has to go on as a starting point. Okay. Now, these are going to be a

little bit tighter to get on. 00;04;48;09 - 00;05;10;25

Unknown As you see, I'm having

to squeeze it down just a little bit because of the extra thickness of the wax right now.

By the feel of it, this is not as tight as I would talk about it. But like I said, remember the toy,

It's got that flange around. It's so going to settle on the tile on the floor and it's going

to seal off now by looking at it. 00;05;10;28 - 00;05;30;15

Unknown You know, you can tell this

wax is pushing out just about all the way around. That's not right here. Which is funny because it's

pushing out around here, pushing out a lot around the back. I'm trying to squeeze it down just a

little bit more just to make sure that we've got a good seal all the way around here about like it

would be with the toilet pump, this one up. 00;05;30;15 - 00;06;02;21

Unknown So what it does again,

that got right up to 30 PSA and I don't think that strips our total lot because

we're going with the pump. And of course, when you push it, it climbs up really, really high.

But it came back down and it's still holding here at five PSA. And if I slowly pump yeah,

it's not holding any pressure. 00;06;02;21 - 00;06;28;15

Unknown So where it blew out,

it's not filling back up now we could put smoke and has to see where it's coming out,

but we didn't set it up. So we're not going to try that today. So again, let's talk about the

same blowout point. Okay. So next we're going better the wax. Now it says better than wax.

So I'll jump ahead and see. 00;06;28;18 - 00;06;52;03

Unknown And I'm looking at this

because you don't believe or not, guys, I don't use these, but that's how they go. So this goes

up against the toilet. So we're going to stick this down right there. Let's start up this side

up. So we've got it right there. All right. So you get it all put together. And yes, as you say,

we had to put longer bolts in there. 00;06;52;05 - 00;07;13;29

Unknown This is a little bit thicker,

quite a bit, actually. Now, I'm already thinking about what I like better about this top. Again,

it's hard to tell how far to tighten this and down because it's not like the wax

here. I can just pull it down to about the same thickness, which I could have probably

measured it and done that. 00;07;14;02 - 00;07;58;02

Unknown But since we had cut the other bolts off,

one of these men were assembled. We're at about the same spot out here, so they're not super

tight. If I was a plumber tightening up the pull, I would tighten this up more. So let's see what

we're getting. Well, now, if it's letting out, you've got foam under it. Is the air going to leak

out through the foam to hold the other two? 00;07;58;04 - 00;08;38;00

Unknown So I was going to say it did

go higher. Okay. As you see, I had to get squirt in here because look here, the air's coming out on

the sides. But and you can hear it coming out now. So what I was going to say at the end probably is

going to matter now because my thought was if this loosened up to let the air out, you would think

the both the rubber seal would seal back off. 00;08;38;02 - 00;08;58;05

Unknown But apparently

it's not. Yeah, I could hear it coming out of it. I would think that the rubber seal would

push back up. So I was going to say I would probably like the rubber seals better because

then if you get your till it gets a little bit wobbles, once you push that wax down,

it's not sealing back off. 00;08;58;07 - 00;09;23;01

Unknown But my thought would be once you wrote seal

on this, it could refill again and we can't get it to hold on if we should try without the thick like

to see that shows it without it. I know. So now we're going to try another one almost similar to

what we just did. I this has got multiple pounds, but since we use multiples on the other one,

we're going to leave it on this one, too. 00;09;23;04 - 00;09;51;23

Unknown Well, the good thing about

this is there's no wax to clean up, but I would still be thinking, if I'm pulling one of these,

there's going to be something fecal remnants down in that foam that you do not want to get a

hold of. Universal wax free. Easiest way to set a toilet. I have figured out the easiest way to set

a toilet to have somebody else do it. 00;09;51;26 - 00;10;35;03

Unknown All right. Let's see what

this one does. It sounds like it's coming out. Yeah, sounds like it's coming out and ready. Yeah,

that you can hear it from the get go. Have you ever had a rubber blowout? I mean, that's what it

did. It actually blew it. Yeah. Up and or like, it's trying to come out and seal off Anyway,

we couldn't get this one to hold any pressure. 00;10;35;05 - 00;11;00;18

Unknown Yeah, this literally did

it kind of push that rubber up under so, you know, guys look from as quick as these were leaking, at

least the wax filled up. I'm not going to say it's the greatest thing on Earth, but plumbers had been

using wax for years and they use it for a reason. It works. But once that toilet starts wobbling,

you need something else. 00;11;00;24 - 00;11;14;28
