FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert an SRT file to text?
Upload your .srt file or paste its contents into the box above. The plain text appears instantly. Copy it, or download it as a .txt file. There's no signup and no waiting.
What does the converter remove?
The cue numbers, the timing lines (00:00:01,000 --> 00:00:04,000), formatting tags like <i> and <b>, and HTML codes like &amp;. You can also remove sound tags like [Music] and [Applause]. The spoken words stay exactly as they are.
Can I keep one subtitle per line?
Yes. Untick "Join into paragraphs" to keep each subtitle line on its own line. Leave it ticked to get flowing paragraphs that are easier to read, quote or paste into a document.
Does it work with VTT and SBV files?
Yes. WebVTT (.vtt) and YouTube's SBV (.sbv) files work the same way. For YouTube's auto-generated VTT captions, it also removes the lines that repeat from one caption to the next.
Is my subtitle file uploaded?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, so your file never leaves your device. That makes it safe for unreleased videos and private recordings.
Where do I get an SRT file for a YouTube video?
On YouTubeTranscript.dev, paste a YouTube link to get the video's transcript and download it as SRT, VTT, TXT or JSON. If you only need the text, you can download it as plain text straight away and skip the conversion.
