The Rapture Won't Happen How You Think
What this video covers
In this episode, John Bevere and his son Arden explore biblical eschatology from 2 Peter, Thessalonians, Zechariah, and Revelation to answer whether the church will endure God's wrath. For the first time publicly, John shares his conviction that faithful believers will be caught up prior to the seven-year tribulation, while distinguishing between earthly suffering and divine wrath. The discussion emphasizes readiness, spiritual preparation, and unity among believers despite differing end-times viewpoints.
Key takeaways
- Preparation for Christ's return focuses on abiding in Him and living holy, blameless lives rather than obsessing over logistical timelines.
- The Bible distinguishes between earthly tribulation (suffering and persecution experienced by believers) and the wrath of God poured out during the Day of the Lord.
- The 'Day of the Lord' is not a single 24-hour day but encompasses the seven-year tribulation period focused on divine judgment and dealing with Israel.
- Scripture explicitly states that God has not appointed believers to wrath (1 Thessalonians 1:10, 5:9), delivering them through Christ.
- The Greek term 'harpazo' (caught up) describes being snatched away by force to meet the Lord in the air, translated in the Latin Vulgate as the root for 'rapture.'
- Belief in an early gathering of believers prior to God's wrath is not a modern 19th-century invention, appearing in early church writings such as Irenaeus, Shepherd of Hermas, and Ephraim the Syrian.
- John Bevere emphasizes that eschatological views should foster comfort, mission, and courage rather than division, fear, or discord within the church body.
Topics covered
- The Day of the Lord vs. Earthly Tribulation
- The hosts clarify biblical definitions, noting that while believers are promised earthly persecution and trials ('thlepsis'), the Day of the Lord specifically refers to the outpouring of God's fierce wrath upon a rebellious world during the seven-year tribulation.
- The Two Phases of Christ's Coming
- A contrast is drawn between believers being caught up in the clouds to meet Jesus in the air (1 Thessalonians 4) and Christ's physical return with His saints to touch the Mount of Olives and defeat world armies (Zechariah 14, Revelation 19).
- Etymology and History of the Rapture (Harpazo)
- John explains the biblical Greek origin of 'harpazo' and its translation into the Latin 'rapio' by Jerome, demonstrating that early church fathers recognized the exemption of the faithful from the coming period of divine wrath long before John Nelson Darby.
- Personal Position and Christian Unity
- John Bevere states his personal belief that the church will be caught up before the seven-year tribulation, while stressing that differing views on eschatology should never break Christian fellowship, even highlighting that his own wife holds a post-tribulation perspective.
“Most importantly, I want to remind you that in the last days, scoffers will come mocking the truth and following their own desires.”

Will the church go through God's wrath?
For see, the day of the Lord is coming,
a terrible day of his fury and fierce
anger. The land will be made desolate
and all the sinners destroyed with it.
So this is absolutely the great and
dreadful day of the Lord. Now the day of
the Lord is actually the day of his
wrath. Now the question becomes where
are we? the faithful followers of Jesus
going to be during the time of his
wrath. This is the first time publicly I
have ever said this that I believe the
church is going to be.
Hey everyone, welcome to the John Bevere
podcast. I'm here joined with my son
Ardan. Ardan, it's great to see you
today. It's good to see you. We're
coming to an end of second Peter. It's
kind of crazy. It's been a year. It's
been almost a whole year. And to be
honest with you, we could spend another
3 years on this, but I I want to keep it
rolling. And uh but and we want to keep
going through other books, too, as it
comes up. So, also, if you have book
recommendations, throw them into the uh
the comments below. Yeah, that'd be a
great idea. I'd love to hear from our
friends what they'd love to hear taught.
We've gone verse by verse, and I realize
that Peter is moving through this book.
First of all, talking about our
character. Second of all, war warning
about deception from false teachers
leading into the coming of the Lord. And
the more I I I I don't think I've I've
prepared so much for a podcast as I have
for this one. And yet, the more I study,
the more I realize how much I don't
know. And so, I am so crying out to the
Holy Spirit. I was up at literally I was
awake at 3:00 this morning and at 4:00,
I finally rolled out of bed and said, "I
just need to go get on this." And I'm
just so excited. I mean, the more I
study this, the more I get excited. And
I want to emphasize to everybody, you
know, Peter talks in really raw language
about the day of the Lord, about the
second coming of Jesus. And I realize
that we could spend a lot of time
talking about the
logistics just as, and I want to take us
back to an example I gave earlier. I
remember back in the days of university
when I had final exams. Now, you better
believe I wanted to know what time that
final exam was and I wanted to know
where it was. Yeah. But that's not what
I spent all my time preparing for. I
spent hours and hours preparing for the
exam. And I feel what is more important
for the body of Christ is not to know
the logistics of the second coming, but
more importantly, how do we as the body
of Christ, how are we readied? How are
we prepared for his second coming? And
we started talking about the things that
would lead up to the return of Jesus.
Number one being the apostasy. Number
two, we talked about the latter reign.
How exciting. Always gets me excited.
Yeah, it does. I could talk about that
one for podcast. And then third, the
Elijah anointing that would come.
Calling those people, the millions that
have walked away in the apostasy back to
the Lord because God loves people so
very much. He's going to give them every
chance to come back. Right. Well,
today's podcast, we're going to talk
about the day of the Lord. Now, let me
say this. First John 2:28. And now,
little children, abide in him. There's
your prep work. Abide in him. All right,
that's preparing for the exam final
exam. Why? That when he appears, we may
have
confidence. I wanted to walk into my
final exams with confidence. If I didn't
prepare, I was shivering. Yeah. that we
might have confidence and not be ashamed
before him as at his coming. If I
flunked a test in college, I was ashamed
before my parents. Okay? They still love
me. They didn't throw me out of the
family, but I never wanted my dad and my
mom ashamed of my work. And so hopefully
you will receive what we're saying in
this podcast and even in the next one
with that kind of a heart. Second Peter,
let's go there. Most importantly, I want
to remind you that in the last days,
scoffers will come mocking the truth and
following their own desires. So when we
live in the flesh, it will actually
cause an attitude in us to mock the
truth. What truth will we mock? They
will say, "What happened to the promise
of Jesus coming again? For since the
fathers fell asleep, all things continue
as they were from the beginning of
creation." So living a fleshly life will
actually position our heart to where we
will actually mock the coming of the
Lord Jesus Christ. That's the truth
we'll mock. But you must not forget this
one thing, dear friends. A day is like a
thousand years to the Lord and a
thousand years like a day. Now we move
on. Verse 10. But the day of the Lord, I
want everybody to take notice. The day
of the Lord will come as unexpectedly as
a thief. Then the heavens will pass away
with a terrible noise, and the very
elements themselves will disappear in
fire, and the earth and everything on it
will be found to deserve judgment. I'm
going to continue, but we're not going
to focus on that. We're going to voc
focus on verse 10. Since everything
around us is going to be destroyed like
this, what holy and godly lives should
you live, looking forward to the day of
God and hurrying it along? Mhm. We hurry
it by being busy about the work of the
kingdom, living godly lives, being
prepared because God wants us to be
what? He wants us to be joyful on the
day of his return, not terrified like
the sinners. Well, and also that he's
saying before that he's patient for his
coming because he wants to see the whole
world saved. He he wants all men to be
saved. So, so to repentance, but that
understanding that we can hasten, we can
quicken the day of the Lord is pretty
amazing and it should put people more
onto mission. Yeah, I do believe that.
Yeah. And so, it's really important that
I that's why I wanted to read the rest
of these without really focusing on them
today. On that day, he will set the
heavens on fire and the elements will
will melt away in the flames. But we are
looking forward to the new heavens and
new earth. He has promised a world
filled with God's righteousness. So
Peter is actually spanning the coming of
the
Lord all the way to the new heavens and
earth. So he's actually in these few
verses spanning over a thou a little
over a thousand years. Wow. It's really
important that we understand that
because if we're trying to pinpoint all
of what he just said into one time
period, it's impossible. And so verse
14. And so, dear friends, while you are
waiting for these things to happen, I
might add, eagerly waiting, make every
effort to be found living peaceful lives
that are pure and blameless in his
sight. And remember, our Lord's patience
gives people the time to be saved. Let's
go back to verse 10. Peter makes the
statement, "But the day of the Lord will
come as unexpectedly as a thief." Now,
we have questions to ask. Yeah. Is this
unexpected? Is this for everybody? Is
this for the
unbelievers? Is the day of the Lord does
it affect us believers who are the body
of Christ who are were really called the
bride of Christ? This is what we want to
answer on this podcast. These are some
big big questions. Okay. So, where we
need to begin, Ardan, is what is the day
of the Lord? Yeah. So Deb, we actually
use Logos to not only just take a
summary of what the day of the Lord is,
but actually to pull from 75,000 using
their AI pull from 75,000 of the
resources that you have to come up with
this definition. Yeah, the definition of
the day. What's the summary? I think we
have a pretty good summary here. It
says, "The day of the Lord is a
significant concept in the Bible or in
