The best NoteGPT alternative for YouTube transcripts
Built for YouTube research, with an API and credits that never expire. NoteGPT is an all-in-one AI study and writing suite: YouTube and PDF summaries, transcription, mind maps, AI chat, an AI detector and humanizer, and voice tools.
QUICK ANSWER
If your work is mostly YouTube, YouTubeTranscript.dev is the best NoteGPT alternative. You get transcripts for single videos, playlists and whole channels, a transcript API on the same account, AI summaries and chat, and pay-as-you-go credits that never expire. NoteGPT is the better fit if you want one subscription for many AI writing tools, such as PDF chat, AI humanizer and voice cloning.
Why people look for a NoteGPT alternative
Subscriptions only
NoteGPT is sold as monthly or yearly plans. YouTubeTranscript.dev also sells one-time credit packs that never expire, so a quiet month costs nothing.
Limits on videos without captions
NoteGPT caps videos without subtitles at 120 minutes on Pro and 210 minutes on its higher plans. We transcribe the audio of videos up to 8 hours long.
No developer API
NoteGPT's pricing page doesn't list an API. We give you a REST API, SDKs, a CLI and an MCP server on the same account and credits as the web app.
YouTube-first research
Pull every transcript from a playlist or an entire channel in one job, then search, summarize and chat across them.
Why teams switch to YouTubeTranscript.dev
YouTube research and analysis, not just transcripts
Most transcript tools stop at the text. YouTubeTranscript.dev turns any video, playlist or entire channel into research: AI summaries, mind maps, quote extraction and chat with any transcript. Analyze a competitor's channel, mine reviews for customer pain points, or pull every mention of a topic across hundreds of videos in an afternoon.

Buy a one-time credit pack (3,920 credits for $49) and use it whenever you like. Pay-as-you-go credits never expire, so a quiet month costs nothing. If you use it often, subscriptions start at $5/month, and you can cancel anytime.

Paste a link in the dashboard, or call the same features from the REST API. Single videos, playlists, whole channels and bulk batches all draw from one credit balance. Developers get Python, Node and Dart SDKs, a CLI, an MCP server for AI agents, and ready-made n8n and Make templates. Non-technical teammates use the same account in the browser.

Download TXT, SRT, VTT or JSON with timestamps. Or turn a video into a study kit (notes, flashcards, quizzes and a mind map), a summary, chapters, quotes, subtitles or a translation into 100+ languages, without leaving the app.

We pick the best source automatically: creator-uploaded captions first, then YouTube's auto captions. When a video has no captions at all, AI speech-to-text transcribes the audio, even in noisy recordings. You can also upload your own audio or video files (up to 2 GB).
